Four friends just returned from a long weekend in Abingdon Virginia. The highlight of our stay was the adorable Meadow Cottage that we chose from VRBO vacation listings. We had been to Abingdon many times before for girl getaways but this was the first time that we had chosen a rental property in town. This was the best of both worlds...close to everything and yet the setting in a big meadow made us feel we were out the country. Deer ran through at dusk as we enjoyed the firepit one night...and we even saw a fox. We could walk to town and did so one night when we had a fabulous dinner at The Tavern. We saw two plays at Barter Theatre and enjoyed time tasting all the olive oils at the Abingdon Olive Oil Company on Main Street. Although, we did not bike the Creeper on this trip, we did hike out about 3 miles from the Abingdon end and had a picnic. After our busy days, it was wonderful to relax and sit by the fire pit with a glass of wine and a take-out dessert from Anthony's Desserts.(the best cheesecake I have ever had). The cottage was precious and the owners have furnished it beautifully with every thing a guest would need for a relaxing and pleasant stay. Delicious homemade cinnamon rolls awaited us for our first morning along with juices. The coffee and tea selection that is there for all guests made us feel like we were in a Starbuck's! The owners also left us a printed list of everything that was going on for the dates we were there. It was a perfect place for four friends to stay and reunite. We are already talking about our next trip to the Meadow Cottage.

This was our family's second stay at The Meadow Cottage. We enjoyed our first stay so much, we didn't even look for other accommodations in the Abingdon area! Once again, we arrived at a lovely, and very clean cottage nestled back in a meadow-like setting. Awaiting us upon arrival was some of the best pumpkin bread we had ever tasted - delicious! We spent the weekend with our family and celebrated my sister's birthday. A great time had by all! We will absolutely stay at The Meadow Cottage when we return to Abingdon in the future. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We will not attempt to tell you what time at The Meadow Cottage did for our spirits! We arrived tired and hungry after a long trip and found the lights on, good night cookies and a wonderful property awaiting us. We met two other couples from diffent locations for an extended weekend in Abingdon..(our first, their second). We laughed, talked, hiked, biked and enjoyed a glass of wine (or two) every night by the fire pit. We had a huge private meadow to ourselves with lots of stars twinkling above...yet we were only minutes from the main shopping area. Barter plays are a must and do not miss the New Heartwood Virginia Artisan Center...we are coming back next spring just to spend more time there! You can spend hours browsing in the shops and galleries and mealtime become important to us because of all the good restaurants. We especially enjoyed Rain...wonderful Butternut Soup! We also liked the cupcakes at Baby Cakes Cupcakery...to die for. Thanks for all you did to make our first time in Abingdon the first of many! The breakfast cinnamon rolls melted in our mouths and it was so nice to have half n half and juices for our first morning after a late arrival. I hope that the open air hot tub becomes a reality for next summer...that sounds like a plan! Firepit, hot tub and stars!

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1996

About the owner: We opened Crooked Cabin Properties in 1991 with the original Crooked Cabin (VRBO# 137446). In 1996, we purchased The Meadow Cottage which was a 1930's mother-in-law bungalow on a quiet, private 2 acre meadow in the heart of Abingdon. We restored the property to its original condition and added new amenities and lovely furnishings. We then went on to restore 2 other properties, The Brook House and The Creekside Hatch--both in the historic district. We love providing guests with the help they need plannig their trip and selecting events and activities. You can view these on our website, crookedcabinprop.com. stored 3 more properties, all located in the historic district of town.

                      Why the Owner Chose Abingdon:
We chose to buy our properties in the historic District of Abingdon, Virginia because we feel it is important for guests to have the feel of being in the heart of town and having easy access to all the wonderful events and activities that Abingdon has to offer. After staying in cottages in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg and seeing how fun it was to actually be in the center of things...we decided that we would like visitors to experience the same fell in our town. You have the experience of being in SW Virginia's oldest town, yet have easy access to all that the area has to offer in outdoor recreational activities, festivals and arts and music.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Guests have an easy walk to The World Famous Barter Theatre, Virginia Creeper Hike and Bike Trail as well as great shopping and dining! We are close to TVA lakes, Appalachian Trail, Bristol Race Track, and the Country Music Road. Heartwood Artisan Center and William King Regional Arts Center are only a short 10 minute drive. Guests can enjoy the privacy of the cottage, yet me close to all events and activities. The outdoor dining/firepit area provides a great gathering place on cool evenings. We provide our guests with complimentary passes to the Coomes Recreation Center, a state of the arts facility just minutes from your door...indoor/outdoor pools, tennis courts, exercise facilities, playground, walking trails and skateboard park. We also provide complimentary pastries, juices and coffees/teas on arrival mornings.
