This cabin has a really steep driveway. If you go during the winter you had better have a 4 wheel drive vechicle or you will not be able to get up or down it. The cabin is very old and needs some upgrading. It looks like some new tile work was done in the bathrooms and the down stairs has recently been upgraded. Upstairs however is another story. The whole upstairs is carpet. It is dirty and needs to be replaced. There needs to be extensive dusting done to the cabin. There was thick dust behind all the headboards and spider webs on the ceilings and lamps. If you come during the winter be sure to bring your own blankets. There where 3 blankets in the cabin. They where probably about 20 years old. I had to wash them before we used them. There should be mattress pads and blankets on all the beds. Over all the bathrooms and kitchen where clean but due to the amount of dust and dirty carpet it just made everything else seem dirty. A good extensive cleaning should do the trick here. It is in a great location and it is located in a very quite neighbor hood.

Great Ideas but Poorly Executed

I try to be as honest as I can because I know people who read these reviews are trying to guage if this is the place they want to spend their vacation. So here is my opinion about this cabin. This cabin is the perfect example of what could have been. When you walk in your first immpression is positive. The layout seems nice, kithen area seems well equiped but as is in most cases the devil is in the details. 1. Switches are wired really weird. There are so many different switches and it hard to firure out what switch controls what light. In some case there's not a switch on the wall but on a plug. Not a good thing. 2. The front door to patio is locked and cannot be unlocked. Seems like a small thing until you consider the number of bears walking through. Daily we had a bear that walked the road. God forbid he would have came up in the yard, you'd have to go around to the side door to get back in the cabin. 3. The cleaniness of the place needs to be addressed. There were so many cobbwebs around the beds, and around the kitchen area that I know the cleaning service is doing a basicc Trach -N- Dash. Needs deep cleaning. 4. The game room just didn't quite work as well as it could have. I think the area would make a better Master Suite than Game room. 5. The Hot Tub on the deck next to trees is not a good idea. Honestly considering the way the house was cleaned, I couldn't bring myself to trust the hot tub under tree overhang. Definitely should think about putting it somewhere else. All in all, the cabin is just old and needs polishing up. I can imagine in it's day it was really nice but now it shows it's age. The televisions are really old and there just seemed to be a lack of quality in the overall product you get in the cabin. Oh yeah, bring your own grill because there's not one at the cabin. We enjoyed Gatlinburg but endure the cabin stay. It was disappointing but I played happy guy with the family and we made it a good trip. Sorry not more positive but I want to be honest.

The cabin was quaint and homey. Unfortunately that's about all I can say in a positive vein because the owners simply did not respond to any of our issues. The dishwasher was broken, and the owners did not even make an attempt to repair or replace it. The charcoal grill was non-existent. The hot tub had a malfunction so that when you turned on the jets, the water shot out over the side. There were two broken lamps in the living room. There was visible use of duct tape. The place was loaded with cobwebs. In short, I would not stay there again. Hospitality was sorely lacking.
Owner response:Hello, We have come through a very difficult time. Not only did we have the normal renters, that broke the hot tub, stole the BBQ grill and damaged various things in the cabin. We also had to change our cleaning crew. It seems that every 3 to 4 years we have to do that to keep the level of commitment up. After that they seem to get lazy. We have just replaced the furniture in the cabin as well as all the blinds. We replaced the Hot Tub, and bought a new BBQ Grill. We fixed the dishwasher and removed/replaced any broken items. I would also like to point out that we refunded money to the individuals that complained below. We do understand that refunded money doesn't make up for poor service but it was all we could do under the circumstances. The new cleaning crew is awesome and with the repairs complete the cabin shines again. I hope you will consider our cabin for your stay.

Very disappointed in recent stay

Recent stay 6/11/11 thru 6/15/11. Upon arrival at the cabin, we found that there was no power upstairs in one bedroom (no lights, no ceiling fan working), the TV upstairs did not work, and there was only 1 overhead light that worked in the gameroom. The lights in the 1/2 bath also did not work as well as the jets in the jacuzzi. Half of the lightbulbs were either missing or did not work. The cover on the hot tub is water logged, so was extremely heavy and ackward to remove and put back. The driveway is in great need of repair, loose gravel and chuck holes. We called the owner 4 times starting from the date of our arrival regarding the power issue and the next 3 days following and left voice mails. We never received a return call. Upon our departure, we contacted the realtor listed on the for sale sign in front of the property, (to make her aware of the power issue) and said this was not the first time there were issues for vacationers and the owner would not return their calls. It is really a shame that the owner does not care about this property. It could be a great place to stay with some repairs and up keep. The biggest disappointment to our family was that we certainly received return telephone calls when inquiring about renting the property and providing payment, but once the owners had our money, ignored us completely. The owners of this property should be ashamed of themselves. After this experience, we will never rent a property directly from the owner.
Owner response:This renter simply tripped a breaker and that is why the lights were not working. We tried to return calls but they did not have service on the mountain. The remainder of their complaints seem to be out of anger. The realtor was for the property next door. We have replaced the furniture in the house since this stay and the lid on the hot tub. It is a very nice place to stay. The shame of VRBO's review process, is that very few people bother to leave a positive review, so it does become one sided. We try very hard to offer a pleasant stay to all our guest.

We had a nice experience at the chalet. It was very clean and the beds we very comfortable. Our only probelm was that the game room is on the second floor and had a family member that was handicapped. Also getting in and out of the driveway was bit of an issue. Other than that I would defiently recommed. We had everything we needed and really enjoyed our family time there.

We stayed at the Bear Foot Inn during our spring break. The kitchen is nice but the rest of the cabin is run down. The dishwasher was broke, the sink was leaking and the lock to the patio doors was broken. The mattress on the lower level was hard as a rock so every morning I woke up with a back and neck ache. The blinds in one of the bedrooms are broken. The furniture and carpet is just gross. It was clean and the location is good.
Owner response:Sorry to hear of your discomfort. We were unaware of the dishwasher and door, both have been repaired, as have the blinds. The furniture in each cabin is discarded about every 5 years, we have not had complaints of it before. Thanks for your stay, We'll take action to to do better in the future.

Dishonest Owners and Rundown Chalet=Bad Vacation

We were very diappointed when we arrived at the "Bear Foot Inn". The pictures that we viewed online didn't show the true rundown condition of the chalet and the cleaning service leaves much to be desired. There were many complaints about the condition of the cabin throughout the guest book. After coming from our week long vacation cabin in the Georgia Mountains, the chalet was in no way comparable to the place we had just rented. Instead of contacting the owners to complain, we cleaned up ourselves and tries to make the best of it. A week after our vacation at the "Bear Foot Inn" we received a DAMAGE charge on our bank card for damage that was not caused by us. Be very careful of dishonest owners trying to scam people during this hard economy. Not only is the house in desperate need of repair, but it is also for sale. Apparently the owners are trying to make a little extra money before they sell the place. We are not recommending this chalet to anyone who expects a NICE, CLEAN, vacation from honest owners.
Owner response:This is a disgruteled employee, VRBO id not verify the stay.
