Close to groomed Snowmobile & ATV Trails, Henry's Lake, Henry's Fork Snake River, Island Park Reservoir, West Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Tetons, and Yellowstone National Park.
About: We live in the mountains of Utah where we are raising our two young daughters. We all love to ski, golf, fish and snowmobile together and very much appreciate the Island Park wilderness and all it has to offer us.
Why Island Park: We started coming to the Yellowstone area 30 years ago from California to experience the plentiful native trout unique to the local rivers and lakes here. After several years of renting cabins, we purchased our cabin and have enjoyed it all seasons of the year. My sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors have all landed trophy trout from the local lakes and rivers. We hope your experience here will improve your quality of life as it has done for all of our family over the years.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: In the spring, the snow melt opens the local rivers, lakes and trails for exploration around Island Park and Yellowstone. Visiting Yellowstone National Park has always been a favorite for the kids. Seeing the abundant wildlife with their young among the natural landscape of Americas largest Caldera is a site you will never tire of. As the fly hatches begin, we fish for native trophy trout on Henry's Fork of the Snake River as it meanders through Island Park with its headwaters at Henry's Lake and Big Springs. We have caught and released Yellowstone cutthroat up to 7½ pounds, brook trout over 3 lbs and rainbow/cutthroat hybrid over 10 pounds and the elusive big browns, not so much! Watch for Moose around the cabin and notice they “eat for free” as some of our conifer trees in the front yard will attest.
In the summer, the weather warms for boating, water craft and water skiing and all associated lake activities on Island Park Reservoir just a few miles away. Watching bald and golden eagles and the osprey cruise the air currents and fish the local holes is amazing. Following the Nez Perce Indian trail and looking for arrowheads on local battlefields or reliving Lewis & Clarke’s famous trek can make for a great afternoon with your children. Driving to the top of Mt. Sawtell Peak provides breathtaking views of the Island Park Caldera and the Grand Tetons in the distance. BBQ and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit brings everybody together to view the sparkling volume of stars at night.
In the fall, the colors emerge to paint a glorious canvass of orange, red, yellow and green as local trees and shrubs as well as the wildlife get ready for winter.
In the winter, expect tons of snow and lots of burned firewood. Roll right out of the garage onto hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails all the way to Yellowstone. Or, strap on the snowshoes or cross country skies for a heartwarming stroll. Or stay in and watch the complete NFL Package or DVD's.
