Completed earlier this year, the home is a lovely 3 bedroom open-concept, oceanfront villa located above Hodges Beach on Dominica’s spectacular north east coast near the village of Calibishie. The home is like a large cozy cottage on a hill with only tropical trees between it and the sea. The idyllic 100 foot wrap around shaded deck provides private tranquility with breathtaking views to the sea, mountains and rainforest. The cooling trade winds bring the sound of the surf below and you can relax in one of the hammocks in between rainforest hikes, jaunts through the local village or plunges in the ocean.
The generous main room has a high ceiling for coolness and is appointed with comfortable imported sofas and local hand-crafted hardwood furniture, all of it brand new. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a large island with striking sea views for preparing and enjoying idyllic island meals. There is a 9 foot dinning table overlooking the sea and a smaller table on the garden side which is nice for coffee in the morning. Meals, fresh fruit, beverages and groceries can be arranged by our warm staff who live nearby. They can also help with cleaning, transport and a range of tourism services. We would be delighted to share our many personal connections with restaurants and outdoor adventure opportunities which range from deep sea fishing to hiking up to Boiling Lake or the Waitukubuli National Trail.
Dominica offers tremendous beauty and almost overwhelming nature. National geographic magazine calls Dominica one of the most beautiful countries in the world. You can literally touch the tropical forest off the deck and watch emerald green hummingbirds hover inches away. Right below is a trail to a river which pounds into sheltered Hodges Beach where there is safe swimming and an untouched coral reef. Walking out back you are steps from hiking the seemingly infinite plantation roads and trails which crisscross the mountains. Waterfalls, Sisserou Parrots, and rainbows are all right outside the door. So too is the brilliant Caribbean sun and the wonderful people of this peaceful island. It's so inviting to soak up some sun or curl up with a book in the shade.
The home comfortably sleeps 8. The 3 bedrooms come with full linen, wardrobes, fans and secure storage as well as two full bathrooms with hot showers. The sinks deliver cool drinkable water. Both US/CDN and UK/Dominican outlets are available in each room side by side and the windows and doors are fully secured. The generous master bedroom has a queen size bed, locally crafted furniture, an ensuite bathroom and forest and ocean views. French doors walk out to the private deck so the lovely ocean breeze and sound of the waves suffuse the room. The second bedroom has a queen size bed, locally crafted furniture and a view of the ocean. The third bedroom is a bunkbed room and has a mountain view. It has two single beds and a double and is suitable for a young family, children or extra guests.
Dominica offers unparalleled Caribbean beauty and wild nature. You will be staying in a relaxed and well-appointed oceanfront home that was designed to capture the magic of this tropical island. The property is located in the much sought after north coast near Calibishie and is ideal for a couple wishing a memorable tropical vacation or for a family or larger group who want an unforgettable experience.

My wife and I and our two teenage sons spent a week at the Heinzl home outside Calabishie in March. It was perfect for us – a simple, clean, comfortable and quite spacious Caribbean style house close to the village and a couple of beautiful beaches. From the deck we looked out over the ocean where we saw a pod of humpback whales one morning. We could walk from the house immediately up a narrow plantation road into the rain forest where we came across wildlife, including Sisserou parrots native only to Dominica. We were not looking for luxury western hotel accommodation. We wanted to be somewhere where we could experience the island culture and get some quiet relaxation. Neighbours Marvlyn and Greg who are the property managers were very helpful. We hired Marvlyn to look after laundry and even a couple of meals prepared in the local style. Greg drove us around the island which saved us the hassle of car rental for not much extra expense. We look forward to going back to stay at the same place for some future holiday.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children.

We stayed in this wonderful house in Calibishie for about 10 days. First time in Dominica and certainly not the last. The beauty of this island was apparent from the moment we set foot on its soil. Even the customs officers were friendly - when does that ever happen? The accommodations were great, a spacious - open concept, breezy house with a fabulous wrap around deck, an amazing view of the ocean and Hodges Beach (discover why we nicknamed it Platypus Bay), also protected by lush forest, abundant with birds of all kinds including parrots and hummingbirds. Calibishie town is within a 15 minute walk, with all the basic necessities; enough to do some mean local cooking, man. Make sure to check out the Red Rocks within a short walk as well. Next visit will be for a month, since we just barely touched the hiking trails. The house is awesome, as is the neighbour's goat leashed across the yard...If you do come, say hello to Marvlyn and Gregory who kindly take care of this great place, and offered a warm Caribbean welcome! By the way, renting a car is a great asset on this island - but remember to drive on the left!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: I’ve worked all over the world with Médecins Sans Frontières and searched far and wide for the most genuine and idyllic tropical location to build a vacation home. We fell in love with the wild intoxicating beauty of Dominica and built our dream here.
Why the Owner Chose Calibishie:
I’ve been working with the Kalinago people in the Carib Territory on a health research project and have visited Dominica 8 times in the last two years so I was able to search widely across the country for the ideal location to build a tropical retreat. Calibishie is amongst the most desirable destinations in the nation and is recognized as a tranquil and traveler friendly destination. It’s a 15 minute walk to the village of Calibishie where there are numerous restaurants and shops and an equally short jaunt to several stunning beaches. The airport is 20 minutes away by car.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
We think we've built the greatest deck in the nation. It's our favourite place to chill out and enjoy life. The deck is massive and covered for shade and privacy and the old growth forest is just over the railing. The ocean is right below so all you see is tropical forest and breathtaking views of the sea. It's an ultimate in serenity.
