Bonnie and David designed and built this house in 2008, and have lived here since. We love living in Hawaii and the Mountian View area. The climate is cooler and pleasant. I am a carpenter and design and draw house plans. Bonnie works in the social services sector. We enjoy meeting people and are looking forward to having guests in our home.

Our rental is perfectly located for a quick, easy night trip to view glow at Kilaeua Caldera.

This location was perfect for us, off the beaten path and quiet; easy to find. We were so utterly blown away by the gorgeous room and the included amenities - the vrbo ad does not do it justice! Immaculate woodwork and detailing, beautiful fresh flowers in every room, super-comfortable king bed, spices galore (and fresh garlic thank you!), shampoo & conditioner in a generously sized shower, some first aid things, assorted condiments, cooler and ice packs, beach bag and towels etc etc etc.....every time we thought "Oh we wish they had..."...they had it! Seriously. Best-stocked kitchen ever! Although we would have liked to use the hot tub (which was not operable during our stay) we did not really miss it that much since we explored all day and returned home hungry and tired every day to our lovely room. We thoroughly enjoyed our almost-week-long stay here! The immaculate and beautiful accommodations made us feel loved and looked after like family, though in reality we had just ditched our family to run off to the big island! THANK YOU SO MUCH! we will recommend this place to everyone!

When you walk a beach you know there must be pearls among the pebbles. This property is definitely a pearl! It was our great good fortune to discover it during our recent visit to the islands. Interior decorating was superb; provisions were outstanding. The location is a great base from which to explore the windward side of the big island, Our hosts could not have been more caring and helpful; they've planned for everything for visitors. After each tiring day of exploring we loved returning to the serenity of this forest retreat. To Dave and Bonnie we extend our greatest appreciation for a wonderful stay in a beautiful property! Two Tennesse Travelers We loved the place!

We stayed two nights at this property per the recommendation of a prior renter...and wish we had rented for more nights! The facility was beautiful, spotless and centrally located between Hilo and the Volcano National Park. The renters thought of everything, from beach towels and flashlights (for hiking at night) to a fresh pineapple and apple bananas. They were very helpful in locating good spots to dine, and suggested valuable touring spots. We have already recommended them to friends and family!

The guest apartment in the second floor is amazingly beautiful and clean, very well decorated! It's located in the forest, so very quite. The garden of the house itself is like a botanical garden, beautiful scene everyday sitting on the lanai. Also, David and Bonnie are really nice hosts. They lent us the jackets when we need to go the cold Mauna Kea Observatory and reminded us of the flowing lava even in the night.

This was a beautiful apartment. The area was very relaxing. We recommend this place for anyone. It is in the tropical forest area, but the white sand beaches are not far away. We stayed 9 nights and Dave and Bonnie were wonderful hosts.

For our small family of 3, this was a spacious, quality, and perfect place to begin our explorations of the Big Island. We had the entire second floor to ourselves, our daughter slept on the futon in the living room. All of the materials of the home are top-grade and the decor is quite beautiful. Bountiful blooms filled the house when we arrived, from the gardens below. The kitchen is complete, even filled with the little extras you need like soy sauce and jelly, plus fresh tropical fruit at the side buffet. There are also extras in the bathroom just in case you left something at home, like bug spray and sunscreen. The king bed was incredibly comfortable. We fell asleep every night listening to the winter rains and coqui frogs. The house has a small hot tub in the garden, and the water is catchment, meaning you will be drinking and cooking with bottled water, which is provided. None of the roads you take to get to this residential area are dirt, all are paved, so all rental cars will be safe. Dave is very available to answer questions and chat, even late at night when we had a bit of a maintenance emergency. The front gate is locked, you always feel safe. Privacy is also nice here, besides a few neighborhood chickens and a goose, it is very quiet. We stayed one week, and had plenty to see in te area. The distance to Volcano National Park is small, it takes about 20 minutes, making night-time lava glow viewing possible. Heading into Hilo is another quick trip, you are close to several grocery stores and gas stations along the way. Driving into the lower Puna district is incredible-lush and wild. While the beaches are scrce on this corner of the island, the tide pools and seaside cliffs are lovely, and the tropical forests are beautiful. Be sure to visit the many farmer's markets in Puna (Pahoa) and Hilo on Saturday and Sunday, the fruits and veggies are amazing, along with incredibly priced, fresh-prepared meals.

While the photos here are wonderful, they still do not do this place justice! My husband and I stayed at this lovely place for 3 nights, and we'd like to come back again in the future. It was a wonderful home base for us as we visited Volcanoes Nat'l Park, went on a lava tour, visited Hilo and Akaka Falls, and explored the SE and E part of the Big Island. The cottage was so pleasant and well-appointed we never wanted to leave in the mornings. It is beautifully built and furnished. The kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked. (Had we known, we could have cooked more regularly.) Both rooms are well lit by the surrounding windows that look out to lush trees, but it also has screens for privacy or to screen out the light if desired. In terms of the level of quality, care, comfort and attention to detail, it felt like we were staying at a friend's vacation home. David and Bonnie have such a beautiful place that is perfectly situated for going to the volcano and environs. They take such care with this place. It's not a hostel or a motel that should be knocked around. I want to encourage the right kind of respectful traveler who would appreciate this little gem to discover it too. We are highly recommending this to our closest friends and family. It's ideal for a couple. Since it is so nicely furnished, I would not recommend it for a couple with small kids. Since it up one flight of stairs, it is not ideal for elderly travelers. We will be back someday since there is more we have yet to do in the area (hiking the lava flow, Rainbow Falls) and we would like to be to stay here again. During our next stay, we'll be sure to enjoy the hot tub under the stars while listening to the sounds of the night frogs as well as the expansive deck.
