Welcome to the decompression zone of nature where you will enjoy exclusive use of this facility and can relax in natural seclusion all seasons with friends, family or have a corporate retreat, wedding or reunion. Sleeping Child Hot Springs is located in the Rocky Mountains south of Missoula, Montana. This expansive 40-acre estate sits at 4600 ft elevation 6 miles from the nearest neighbor & is surrounded by Bitterroot National Forest on all sides with private gated access. A short drive to Skalkaho Falls (Summer & Fall only), Hamilton & Darby where you’ll find my favorite Candy and antique shops.
The incredible five-level, quality, well-maintained Resort/Lodge has 25,000 square feet of space including 10 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, 3 kitchens, laundry facilities, full surround decks, elevator access on all floors, Bar, a game room, Direct TV, dance floor, Grand piano, indoor fountains, media room and a massive solarium where you can enjoy the “Big Sky” at night without ambient light from cities. There is an additional caretaker's quarters where your hosts live, away from the main building. The resort grounds are well groomed with a 30x60 hot spring pool, sauna and two hot tubs which are heated by the natural hot springs & fire pit near the pool. The geothermal heating from the natural artesian hot springs heats the entire property (130 degree F and 200 gpm). There is a heliport with a heated pad as well as a 1600-square-foot hanger and a seven-car garage with outside parking for 30+ cars. Fishing, hunting, skiing, summer and winter recreation abound. There are beautiful mountain views even though it is tucked away for solitude and privacy. The resort property has a paved drive from the county road and is adjacent to forest service and state land. This historic property holds the Legend of the Sleeping Child.
The beauty of this hot springs was first discovered by the Nez Perce Indians in the 1870's. Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce led his tribe out of the reservation and through the Lolo Pass into the Bitter Root Valley. In pursuit of Chief Joseph and his people were General Howard and a group of soldiers. Trying to avoid a confrontation, Chief Joseph split his tribe into smaller groups.
One such group traveled through what is now Sleeping Child Creek and, facing a possible battle, they left their infants by the hot springs. When they returned, the infants were safe and peacefully sleeping, protected by the natural hot springs. Thus, Sleeping Child Hot Springs was named.
Onsite recreation include; fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, billiards, snooker, ping pong, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, BBQ, hot tub lounging, Croquet, Bocce Ball, fire pit, big screen TV, music, dancing, nature & sky watching.
Your Hosts will provide information on outside recreation sites based on your preferences when you reserve your private hot springs estate. They will set up guides, provide maps and can help you schedule nearby activities if you choose, like horseback riding, skiing, paintball games, full service spas, massage, fishing or shooting instruction, sporting clays, local tours, salons, golf, float trips, river rafting, brewery trips, shopping or hunting.
We welcome all age groups, but pets are not allowed. Sorry. This is a no smoking facility, but, if you must smoke, our hosts will provide smoking areas for you to enjoy outside the main building, just let them know.

As a child, I grew up nearby, frequently visiting the springs, and when they became available, I purchased them for sentimental, historical and investment value. It's private pristine natural setting are alluring to all who visit.

This 40 acre estate is great for family or company parties, corporate retreats, and to just decompress from the pressures of life. The roof top solarium is perfect for star gazing as there is no ambient light to disturb the night skies. Winter is especially beautiful in a warm pool surrounded by snow, tucked in a box canyon protected from moving air, with fire pit and sauna nearby. Words don't capture the feeling of serenity this private hidden site provides. Perhaps the natives before me who used this site to protect their families could.
