What a great little cabin! Four of us spent a few nights at Grand View (very appropriate name), snowshoeing, skiing and snow tubing during the days, relaxing and cooking in the fully equipped kitchen at night. The VAST trails were amazing and the foot of snow that arrived the night we did provided us with perfect conditions our entire stay. An issue with the hot water heater was dealt with by the owner Mike immediately and he took the time to make sure we were taken care of. Highly recommended!Did you find this review helpful? Grand View Cottage is a great place to vacation. The house and the grounds are spectacular. The area and the view are also really fantastic. The cottage itself is very cozy and very well equipped. The gas stove was great. The cottage is on a very quiet road, but you are close to anything you could possibly want. There are numerous dining options in the area. I would personally recommend the Harpoon Brewery in Windsor and Bentley's in Woodstock to name a few. We were absolutely blown away by the cottage and the property. We are already looking forward to a summer trip. Thank You.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Grand View Cottage was all that we saw in the pictures but so much better in reality. What a nice surprise to find that the cottage was nestled in the perfect location with hard-to-beat views of Ascutney Mtn. It was SO quiet that we really enjoyed being there. Mike was great to work with and the next time we visit Vermont, this will be our first choice for a rental. The beds were very comfortable and if you're used to sleeping on a Tempurpedic, you realize that nothing else compares. It's always hard to be away from our own bed for this reason, but this is the only place we've ever stayed where we could enjoy the great mattress that we've grown accustomed to! It's the little details like this that make this the perfect place to stay. It's the BEST of Vermont! The only problem we had was that there is no land line phone and our cell phones did not have good reception there. But that would not stop us from staying there in the future!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

If you need to get away from the city, this is the place you want to stay. The house was very inviting and very well kept. It has everything you need as if you were home. The owner, Mike is the best he called to welcome us and make sure that we made it to the property and asked if there was anything that we needed. He advised us that there was a basket with brochures of things to do in and around the area, also. It is so nice and peaceful that just sitting on the porch listening to the wildlife was the best thing for us to relax. We would stay here again if we ever came back to the East Coast, it was exactly what we were looking for.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

My family of 4 spent the week of Christmas at Grand View Cottage. It couldn't have been better. the home is perfectly laid out and the view is to tremendous. Although Ascutney is closed Okemo is only a half hour away. Woodstock has some nice restaurants as well as Quechee. We had some nice fires in the fire pit, took long walks and just relaxed in the secluded wonderland. Brownsville doesn't offer much, but there are things within a short drive.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed for a week with our 10 year old son and our dog and we all really enjoyed the property. The house is very cozy and comfortable inside and also has an amazing view of Mt Ascutney across the big field in front. It is very tastefully furnished and decorated. (My wife and I are a little picky and are turned off by so many of the other rentals that are full of ugly furniture and knotty pine all over - we don't need that to feel like we are in the country)! We were thrilled to find walking trails right off the property leading through the woods and to a wildflower meadow. We found lots to do nearby- hiking on Ascutney, lunch in Windsor, side trip to Woodstock and Quechee Gorge, farmers market in Ludlow. I had many nice runs on the local gravel roads. At the house we had everything we needed for cooking and grilling, playing monopoly, watching movies. The rental agreement was very straight forward and I would definitely recommend this cottage to any friend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We spent a wonderful few days here during 2008 foliage season. The cottage is extremely well equipped, very nicely furnished, (photos on this site are accurate) and great value, especially if there are more than 2 of you. It sits on a surprisingly large piece of land, and in the late afternoon we enjoyed sitting on the front porch surveying 'our' domain: incredible views without moving a muscle. ;) There is a great selection of books/magazines/DVDs provided, along with most everything else you could possibly need and many thoughtful details. One thing to note, if you are a large person, you will likely find the shower somewhat cramped. The wonderful, secluded location means you will have to travel somewhat to find a restaurant for dinner, but the kitchen is absolutely fine to cook meals at home, or, in the right weather, the grill looks tempting too. On the topic of meals, we enjoyed the Windsor Station restaurant, but would not go back to Browns at the Ascutney resort. We hiked the entire way up Mt Ascutney and were thrilled to be able to see the cottage from the top; however, would not recommend this 9 mile trek for the faint-hearted! Happily, you also have the option of driving up. Finally, Balloons of Vermont deserve a mention for a highly memorable wedding anniversary treat. Overall, I strongly recommend this cottage, not least because you will have your own little corner of Vermont, far from the foliage crowds.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.
