If you want privacy, this is the place for you. This retreat is located on a tiny peninsula of land. When my grandfather purchased over 250 acres of Lady’s Island back in the late 1940’s, he always considered this 4 acre tract the jewel in the crown. It was his retreat from town long before my parents built a home here. Pap would come and put his boat in down at the shell ramp.
He’d cast his net in Little Lucy for those scrumptious creek shrimp to put over his grits. He fished around the bend at one of the best fishin holes in Beaufort County. He always dreamed of living here. Its location on one of the highest bluffs overlooking deep water on Lady’s Island made it an ideal home site.
So in the 1970’s my mom designed this home and had Elias Pinkney build it. The brick home, which is shaded by live oaks draped in Spanish moss commands views of more than 400 feet of the shoreline of Little Lucy Creek and its salt marshes. Each bedroom has its own unique view of the water.
From the Master Bedroom you can see the sunrise or moonrise over the dock on Little Lucy Creek. But from your queen size bed you have another view that looks down the creek and toward the sunset.
From the guest bedroom you also have a view of the dock on the creek. From the third bedroom each twin bed has a view of the creek and salt marsh. Enjoy your morning coffee at the kitchen table or on the screen porch with its panoramic views of the entire sunrise/sunset experience.
There is also seating out on the bluff so you can watch for the dolphins that swim by on the high tides or watch the stingrays, egrets and herons that come in to feed on low tide. We also have visits to the oyster bank below the bluff from a family of raccoons. Deer swim the creek to hide and feed among the magnolias and oaks. A pair of pileated woodpeckers has taken up residency in our piney woods by the dock.
This is our home and so we have tried to think of everything that might make your stay with us more comfortable. We have recently remodeled the interior to reflect our own love of Mid-Century modern furnishings( Very MadMen Like). There are lovely wood floors throughout. There are ceiling fans in almost every room and central heat and AC when desired. The giant living room with its 20 foot vaulted ceiling and open dining area were made for entertaining. For those who would rather stay inside there is seating in front of a 55 inch LED wide screen T.V.This service is provided through Direct TV. Computer access is through WIFI . A second TV is located in the Master Bedroom.
There is also seating in front of the wood burning stone fireplace. There is a large desk for visiting writers, computer users or grand kids working on jigsaw puzzles. The pillow top beds have soft sheets, comfy pillows and beautiful coverlets.
The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances, cookware, china glassware and utensils. There are two and a half bathrooms for everyone’s comfort and privacy. There is also generous closet space throughout the house so that you can store all your gear and belongings during your visit.
The porch is equipped with seating for all and an outdoor patio has a gas grill. The new dock is equipped with a float and kayak launch. Or you can put your boat, kayak or canoe in down at the shell ramp right on the property. There is also a boat landing two miles away at Sam’s Point where Forest Gump was filmed.
Our retreat is within easy drive of Hilton Head, Charleston and Savannah. It is @five minutes from all the necessary stores. A ten minute drive over a scenic bridge will get you to Downtown Beaufort with its shops, carriage rides and restaurants. In fifteen you can be at historic Port Royal and Paris Island. In twenty minutes you can be at one of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast at Hunting Island State Park and Lighthouse. There is a free pass to enter the park available during your stay.
For golfers there is a terrific public course at Cat Island . For nature lovers there are boat tours of the ACE basin. A notebook is available with information about our favorite things to do in the area and places to eat, shop and visit.
Or you may be like us and just sit on that porch watching the world of the tides come and go. They say that once you have smelled the pluff mud it gets in your veins and pulls you back just like the tides.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Lucy Creek. We brought our kayaks and were able to spend quality time in the water. The house was very conducive to our outdoor activities. The only thing hindering those was that we had two days of very heavy rain. The house has three bedrooms and was very suitable for our family of five. Plenty of dishes, cooking items, etc. We caught some crabs with the crabbing equipment provided and added those to our boiled pot for a nice low country boil. We will definitely be coming back to this house again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This is a beautifully renovated and decorated home, with the best-equipped kitchen of any house or condo we've ever rented. What made this a special experience, though, was the stunning view of the marsh from the screened back porch where we spent most of our time. My granddaughter became a master of catching crabs in the crab traps (not as easy as it sounds) and we had a crab feast one night. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable, and with 3 bathrooms, there was plenty of room to spread out! The only caveat I would add is that there are a few steps going into the front door, and a set of steps down into the screened porch, which might be a problem for a wheelchair.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is a wonderful vacation home. The property is very well maintained and equipped showing great care by the owner. The owner was very responsive and had provided a comprehensive guide to area attractions and restaurants in a handy binder. We enthusiastically recommend it for all ages.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for visiting with us. We are looking forward to your visit next spring. It's always a beautiful time there but especially in the spring and fall. The beach is great then too. Glad you enjoyed our beach pass.

This property was a comfortable place to call home for the month. Everything we needed was there for us and the owners were helpful when we had questions. We are outdoor people and spent lots of time bird watching, kayaking, fishing and exploring the Beaufort area. We started a bird list and identified over 60 birds. The Kayak Farm delivers and picks up kayaks so we were able to rent kayaks for a week. The floating dock on the property with the "kayak launch" was perfect! Kayaking with the dolphins was exhilarating! The weather was cooler than normal for March so we didn't have much luck fishing. We learned a lot about the area on the walking tour in Beaufort, and Hunting Beach State Park was a favorite for us. Relaxing in the sun and enjoying the view from the dock was a bit of heaven for these northerners and our dog!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We're so glad that you enjoyed our retreat. We pride ourselves on being responsive to the needs of our visitors. Ya'll were great guests. Please come back.

We had already reserved Little Lucy Creek Retreat for Water Festival in July but had to go to Beaufort unexpectedly to deal with a family situation. How lucky for us that LLCR was available and located very close to my husband's family. The unbelievable views were so relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds. It's also the little things that make it so special; the smell of the towels, the comfy beds, the ample living space, beautiful furnishings and the well appointed kitchen. We can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so glad that we were able to accommodate you all. Great that you will be joining us again during Beaufort Water Festival. There is so much going on that week. I just looked at the schedule Wow!

We agree with previous raves about this property, as does our golden retriever. Exquisite views and a comfortable house. Dawn light sifting through the Spanish moss hanging from the live oaks -- just one beautiful memory among many. Hunting Island beach was majestic, Beaufort was charming and dog friendly. Great fish market and bakery. We look forward to going back!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The retreat is just that, a retreat. It's quiet and off the beaten path, yet close enough to all the things you want to explore in and around Beaufort. It is well appointed and comfortable. We enjoyed the back porch and back yard for sitting, reading and having a glass of wine. We also enjoyed the new dock, fishing, kayacking and crabbing. It's just a great place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for all the pictures. I will get them posted this weekend. So glad you were able to rent kayaks from Higher Ground and that the crabs were coming in. Glad you decided to stay an extra night, too.

Our family of six, well seven to include the black lab, were so glad I chose your home to attend the graduation of our new Marine at Parris Island rather than staying at a hotel. Price was comparable to a hotel, but to have an entire house and the property - what a a value! Everyone got to spread out somewhere and enjoy some privacy - the dock was a big hit with the men and the dog! Everything that I would use in my home was here for us to use - loved having the washer & dryer as we got caught in the afternoon downpours at Parris Island. It was a quick commute to Parris Island. The house and property are clean and well maintained. The rooms are much larger than they appear in the photos, very comfortable for 6 people. Just wish we could've stayed longer to enjoy the area! Thanks Annie & Jack, and our hostess, Melissa!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We're so glad that we could be a part of your son's accomplishment and your families celebration. We hope you will be able to return at some point in the future. Don't forget to post some pix onto our Facebook page.

Just got home from a week at Little Lucy Creek Retreat and would love to go right back for another. The house was very roomy and comfortable. And equipped with everything we needed. Views from the house were beautiful . Coffee on the dock or on the bluff is a must. Very peaceful as the house is located on a dead end street and there is no traffic going by. But more than anything Annie and Melissa were very accommodating and easy to work with. Thank you for sharing your home with us.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers.

We have had many VRBO rentals in the Beaufort area and this was by far the best. The house rules are welcoming rather than restrictive. Everything needed for a good stay is provided and in nice condition. The owners are responsive and friendly. And the property is simply wonderful. We were content to just relax in the house and on the dock. For dog owners this is a very pet friendly rental. Because of the size and location of the property our Golden had some freedom to safely run and play outside. Not having to be constantly on a leash outside was wonderful. The mudroom, a hose and screened porch kept the house and dog clean despite repeated swims off the dock and one trip into the marsh. We have always stayed out at the beach in the past. So the best thing I can say about this rental is that we didn't miss the beach at all and plan to return here.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Owner info

About the owner: Jack and I are both musicians and spend the majority of our retired time playing music, attending concerts, fiddlers conventions and visiting with our family around the country. But when we need to renew ourselves we head for our home on this beautiful creek. We hope that you leave here as restored and refreshed as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
This property has been in Annie's family since the 1950's. This was the place where the family celebrated holidays and important family events. We have always loved to go there to relax and unwind. We can kayak down the creek but often just relax on the porch with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and watch the tides come and go through the marshes.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
First, we love that we have this incredible private panoramic view of Little Lucy
Creek from almost every room of the house. When we get tired of the view (almost never) the house is located near this quiet neighborhood where we can walk Polly our dog and safely take the grandkids bike riding. It's great being so close to Beaufort with great restaurants and shops. We are also so close to the beach at Hunting Island State park, which is one of the most pristine beaches we have ever been to. We go there as much in the winter as in the summer. There is a free pass to the Park available to you during your stay.
