We just spent a week and Grandma Dorothy's cabin and thoroughly enjoyed it! We came with our five children (ages 16 to 3) and left with all five too. We loved the cabin and property. The cabin is super clean and tidy with a feel of yesteryear all around. We enjoyed campfires at the beach, a few fires in the fireplace on cool nights, and all the space to lounge and read. The two older girls loved the lake house with a bedroom all their own away from the main cabin. We especially loved the row boat w/trolling motor. We fished aplenty. We also used the cabin for day trips near and far. Manitowish Waters was beautiful with its cranberry bogs and ski show. We enjoyed waterfalls in Mercer and beyond. We made it up to the Porcupine Mountains one day and Bayfield, WI on another. A great cabin, perfectly located for northwoods adventures.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We were extremely happy with our vacation week spent at Grandma Dorothy's on Echo Lake in Mercer, WI. The cabin was actually larger than we expected and provided many areas to just sit and relax. Both the main cabin and lake house were extremely clean and nicely decorated. The lake view was superb and we spent a lot of time sitting/reading on the deck. Most cabin rentals provide basic row/fishing boats but it was quite nice to have a trolling motor as well. We fished on the lake which is just over 200 acres. My husband appreciated the DVR/cable service and I found having a washer/dryer to be quite beneficial. The owners were very pleasant to work with and graciously provided information as needed. Overall - a terrific experience!Recommended for: Families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway.

We just returned from a wonderful vacation at Grandma Dorothy's with our two young children (ages 3 and 5). This was a perfect getaway and one that has provided cherished memories for years to come. Our kids loved the cabin so much, they didn't want to come home! The main cabin was perfect for our family of four, with ample room for the the kids' Grandma to join us for the first two nights. The main cabin is nicely decorated, with new, clean bedding in both bedrooms and plenty of extra linens for additional guests. The kitchen is perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay. The owners seem to have every detail covered. We've stayed in a variety of fully furnished vacation rentals over the years and this is definitely the best we've seen. The rowboat was a nice addition and our kids were up early every morning, begging to go fishing. We caught about 30 bluegills - enough for a fish fry on our last night in the cabin. For sport fishermen, the lake is home to walleye, northern, and muskie. Boat traffic was at a minimum, even on the weekend and the lake was quiet, calm and serene during our entire stay. We took the time to visit one of the many waterfalls in the area - Superior Falls - and it was a beautiful 90 ft waterfall, just steps from the shore of Lake Superior. Grandma Dorothy's is perfect for families with children or even a romantic winter getaway for two (with miles and miles of snowmobile and cross country ski trails located just down the road). We would highly recommend it. The owners, Dawn and Jim, were helpful throughout the process and quick to respond to questions along the way. Check it out, you are guaranteed to love this warm and inviting retreat in the Northwoods!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family (including three small children) had a great time at "Grandma Dorothy's". The cabin was large, spacious, comfortable and super clean. They had everything we needed for a great stay. The furnishings were great and there were so many extra blankets, etc. The beds were comfortable and there was enough room for everyone, plus many besides had we needed it. Dawn was great with all of the details we needed beforehand. We loved the little Lake House, what a perfect place to curl up with a book and watch the Lake. My husband and kids enjoyed fishing on the lake and hanging out on the dock. Thanks so much. We would definitely recommend this cabin and return again!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: I am a Wisconsin native and have 2 sons. I work as a Physical Therapist, and enjoy reading, hiking, and quilting in my free time. My boyfriend is a steam fitter, and also a c130 loadmaster in the Airforce. He enjoys fishing, and motorcycling.
Why the Owner Chose Mercer:
Growing up, my family had vacationed in the Great Northwoods for many years. I had many fond memories of time spent 'up north' playing at the lake. A few years ago, my own family actually rented Grandma Dorothy's for 2 summers, when it became available for purchase. I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to spend time at Grandma Dorothy's. We wanted to continue the tradition of spending time here with family and friends. We bought the place and have been spending vacations up here ever since.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
I love the convenience of living just on the outskirts of town, but having the feel of being secluded in a lakeside retreat. We can walk or ride bikes into town, or to the beach, etc, many times a day. The kids are never bored because there is so much to do.
One of my favorite things to do is take a stroll on the trail near the house, either early morning, or at dusk. Often times I will spot deer or other wildlife along the path.
