My wife and I had all our children and grandchildren there for the weekend. Everyone had something to do which they enjoyed individually and as a group (grandchildren ranged in age from 2 to 13 (with two expectant mothers). The adults had a great time playing games at the house and less than a mile away was the lake (fishing, paddle boats), a walking trail, plenty of activities; i.e., miniature golf, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, and a variety of gym activities which all ages enjoyed. The individual running the shop at the boat dock was very helpful and friendly. Found out he and I were both from West Virginia. And all the accessory items were free. The house was well furnished, plenty of towels, etc. and the kitchen had everything needed, along with good instructions on what to do and not do. Received excellent instructions prior to our arrival also. The security was very good. I liked the "old time" wooden doors in the house and the women raved about the decorations. The "game room", pool & ping pong tables were a big hit and got a lot of use. All the rooms were large, with very comfortable beds, The bunk beds were a nice touch also. The upper decked, accessed via two of the bedrooms offered a good gathering place to sit and relax and enjoy the evening. Couldn't have asked for much better weather. We didn't venture off the site except to go to the grocery store, where there was an abundance of friendly and helpful employees. Would have enjoyed more time, as we checked in at 4 pm on Friday and checked out by 11 on Sunday allowing only one full day to try to take everything in. My wife and I have already talked about coming back in a few years (when the newest members of the family will be old enough to enjoy). In the meantime, we plan on just the two of us coming back to relax and enjoy all you have to offer. Thanks for making this a most memorable experience for our family. Everyone sends their thanks.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Well we sure enjoyed having y'all out. I agree, a weekend almost isn't enough to detox from the city - guess you'll just have to come back for a week sometime soon. It also explains why we bought a "weekend place" and ended up moving here - it's a beautiful place to live or to visit. Hope it's the first of many happy returns. Allen and Rhonda

We found this home while searching for a location for a small men's retreat. Immediately upon arrival, a couple of the men stated that they need to "bring their family to this place". Although there are quite a few home in Holly Lake Ranch, this vacation home definitely feels secluded. The 2 level deck is awesome and provides a lot of serentity. We had 10 guys at our retreat and all of them had their own bed to sleep in upstairs. If we'd had more, there were more beds downstairs. The pingpong table / pool table were a hit. The kitchen was well stocked and the gas grill on the deck worked flawlessly. The fishing lake was just a short walk away and we were able to catch a few fish. We didn't catch a 14 lb bass which is the record for the pond or an 8 lb bass which they caught last week, but we had alot of fun. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for either a family getaway or a men's / women's retreat. You won't be disappointed.Owner response: Well thanks for the kind words guys. We really enjoyed having your men's group out. That little lake is one of the best kept secrets around here - I caught an 8.8 lb bass. Also nice that you don't need a fishing license since it's on private property. I hope you guys will come back again and maybe even your church's women's group might want to stay with us. Thanks again, Allen and Rhonda

What a great place to stay. My family of 20, 8 of them being children under the age of 11, were extremely comfortable in this home. There is room enough for everyone to be doing something, reading, playing pool or ping pong, napping, watching tv, or just relaxing on the deck. We had deer visit us on the front lawn and the nature trail behind the house was a real treat. Even with the weather being cold and rainy we had a fantastic time in this home. It was a blessed way to bring in the New Year! Thank you Allen and Rhonda for sharing your home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We found this to be the MOST welcoming and comfortable place we have ever rented. It was simply COZY and soothing to be able to come here after a days work and know that we would be comfortable, warm, and have enough room for all of us to spread out. It had everything anyone would wish for and the hosts are the most accomodating ever. We would rent from them again anyday. Thank you so much for everything Allen and Rhonda. The decorations for Christmas were perfect and inviting. It sure did make our stay feel like home. Thanks again. Sue and familyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay was wonderful. The owners were great in supplying information before we arrived. The house is beautiful with just about anything you need supplied. Since it was Thanksgiving there was a lot of food preperation and we had everythiing we needed in the kitchen. We all loved the game table and movies provided including our 8 and 5 year old granddaughters. It is a nice place for relaxing but still has activities you can enjoy such as fishing, boating, miniature golf, etc. I highly recommend Holly Lake Ranch and this home. The owners know how to provide for a perfect stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house was very beautiful. We loved the open floor plan downstairs where all of our 16 ladies could be together without feeling cramped. There was so much to do at the house alone that some of our ladies stayed at the house the entire weekend. Some of the others took a very short drive to the pool and beach area that is also really nice. The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need and they were very easy to contact if you have a problem. We did have a problem with the a/c and refrigerator but our group was very understanding. We know that things like this happen and it is no fault of the owner. That is why we are still giving it 5 stars. This house deserves no less. We will be back.Owner response: Thanks Susie - you and your gals were awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed having you stay with us. So sorry the A/C froze up, but glad it did not dampen your plans - all the more reason to hang out by the pool, huh? It is beautiful year round here, so we would love to have you back next summer or any other season to enjoy the prettiest part of Texas. Warm regards, Allen and Rhonda Sanders

This home was perfect for our family get away. It was beautifully decorated, well furnished with basic home necessities, and very comfortable and spacious - even for 15 of us! There were plenty of comfortable beds for sleeping. The open concept downstairs allowed us to be together and yet not be in each others way. There were plenty of books, magazines, movies, and games for a great relaxing time together as well as the community swimming pools, miniature golf, and lakes that are available for use by Autumn Wood guests. The game table was a big hit with our family. We even had a family pool tournament on our last evening together. This is a great place for a family gathering. The only problem we had was the time went by much too quickly! A big thank you to the owners also who were very helpful with information and easily accessible by email or phone if needed.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Well Thanks Ruth Ann - we have the best guests in the world! Thanks so much for the kind words. My wife and I really try our best to provide an atmosphere where you and your crew can just kick back, enjoy yourselves and build some good memories. Sure hope it won't be your last time to stay with us. Allen and Rhonda

This is a great home in a great setting. It is beautifully decorated (They've made some changes since these photos were taken--it is much lovelier in person!) and you can see the outdoor foliage from every window in the house. It stayed cool in the 80+ degree heat due to 2 thermostats (one upstairs, one downstairs) and all the shade that the large trees provide. The ground floor is big and open--kitchen, dining room, living room, bar area with pool table, sitting area, full bath and a separate laundry room with storage. I love how you can see the outdoor grill on the front deck from the kitchen. The upstairs consists of 4 HUGE bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms have French doors that open to the upper deck where there are plenty of places to sit, or you can just stand against the railing and watch the birds in the trees. The 2 front-facing bedrooms have window seats. All 4 bedrooms and both upstairs bathrooms have 3-speed ceiling fans with lights! All 3 of the bathrooms (2 upstairs, 1 downstairs) have double-bowl sinks and a separate room with toilet and shower. They provide plenty of dishes, bowls, mugs, utensils, knives, cookware, sugar, salt & pepper, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, towels (tons and tons of fresh, clean towels!), hand soap, body wash and blankets. Bring your own Kleenex, extra TP, hairdryer, iPod dock, coffee (+ regular-size basket filters), matches for the fireplace, and, of course, food. Other items provided: flower vases, games, cards, videos, books, magazines, grill utensils, scissors, scratch paper, and some firewood. This house is stunning in its detail. Lots of lovely finishing touches throughout! The wireless internet connection worked all throughout the house. There is one TV (located in the living room). It gets all of the major networks and some cable stations (ESPN, TLC, etc.). There is also a combo VCR/DVD player. The pet-free, smoke-free environment helps keep this property clean and beautiful. The house is private, peaceful and quiet. No one bothered us and we didn't have any problems with anything. Everything is extremely well-organized and the owners were very thorough with instructions and helpful hints, and made themselves available through email, home phone and cell phones. They are very cordial and always there if you need them, yet they're also respectful of your privacy. The gated community is beautiful and quiet. I highly recommend this property and plan to return as often as we can!Owner response: Wow Laura - thank you so much for the kind words...I want to stay here - hah! Great suggestion about adding an iPod docking station - I'll plan on doing that soon (ya gotta have your own music). Sorry you didn't find the extra TP we had stored in the downstairs bathroom vanity or upstairs closet. Please plan on staying with us again - you and your husband were model guests! Our stay at Autumn Wood Retreat was SUPERB!!! We have a family of 14 that was together for a holiday weekend and had ample space for everyone. In fact, we truly could've accommodated an extra 6 (as AWR sleeps 20). The property was clean, well maintained and stocked with everything you could need. We always got prompt responses to our emails when we had questions, prior to our arrival. Also, after arrival, we were provided access to the owners through several different telephone numbers. I contacted them once during our stay and was able to reach them immediately. We had a wide age range (2 to 82); there was something for everyone. Our teens especially enjoyed the pool table and ping pong table. Tip for future travelers, please don't forget the bug spray. Because our TX winter was so mild, the mosquitoes and bugs are going to be plentiful this year.Owner response: Sure enjoyed having your family out and look forward to your return. What's a vacation in a beautiful natural setting without a couple of mosquitoes - hah! Allen and Rhonda

We are a professional women's group from Rockwall, TX that goes on retreats twice a year. We have been looking for a new place to go that was closer to home. All of our ladies loved the house and the amenities it had. We enjoyed the hiking and the lake that Saturday. The weather was beautiful we even rented paddle boats and went out on the lake. The beds were comfy. We have already reserved our weekend in September. This is definitely our new home for retreats.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow - thanks for the kind words Mindy. We sure enjoyed having you and your gals out. I'm glad that you've decided to make our home YOUR HOME! Look forward to seeing you again in September. Allen and Rhonda
