Up to 6 people can enjoy luxurious bedding that includes a Queen Size bed in the master bedroom upstairs, Twin Beds in another bedroom downstairs, and a Sofa Bed in the living room. Soft down throws and excellent lighting provide a comfortable reading habitat. Or if you prefer, the master bedroom also includes a large TV/VCR/DVD player for your viewing pleasure.
You will be pleased to find a Kitchen Fully Furnished with all the dishes, utensils, cookware, etc., you’ll need to prepare just about any meal, along with free condiments.
A Back Deck includes patio table and chairs and a gas grill. You’ll stay nestled against a wooded area for maximum serenity and privacy. Best of all, you will like our home’s Friendly Atmosphere that will wrap around you like a warm blanket on a cold winter day.
You’ll be situated 1-1/4 mile from the Eagle Ridge Inn and a General Store renowned for gourmet selections. If you’re in the mood for fresh air and exercise, you can step outside to access a picturesque walking trail that winds just a few yards outside the door. Other features include:

* Access to free, year-round Indoor/Outdoor swimming pool complex, including fitness center, game room, gymnasium and more.
* Satellite TV with 200 channels, including Sirius XM music stations.

• People friendly. We also own the unit next door as our personal vacation home. If we are around, feel free to stop by to say hello and join us for refreshments and conversation. If we’re not present during your visit, simply call us with any questions you may have.
• Insiders’ Guide Book. It’s based on experience living in this area since 1987 and offers reviews of attractions that go way beyond what you’ll find in tourist literature. About The Area
We’re situated in the hilly terrain of “The Galena Territory,” only 5 miles from the historic town of Galena near the northwest corner of Illinois. Forget flat farmland. Ancient glaciers pushed out in this direction and left behind a scenic wonderland of rolling hills and the highest elevations in the state. Fall coloration is truly a sight to behold in this area.
The town of Galena is renowned for a Main St. lined with shops filled with antiques, collectibles, artwork, wine studios, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, restaurants, bars and more. You can spend hours browsing and shopping.
A 15-minute drive beyond Galena will take you across the mighty Mississippi to the vibrant river city of Dubuque, Iowa. If casino gaming and/or dog racing is your thing, this town has some of the best facilities of their kind in the Midwest. If that’s not your thing, Dubuque is still worth visiting for a top-notch National River Museum, riverfront festivals, modern movie theaters, symphony orchestra and other cultural attractions.
Do you like to ski or snowboard? The Chestnut Mountain Resort is only 20 minutes away and Dubuque’s Sundown Mountain Resort is less than an hour’s drive. In warm weather, treat your kids and yourselves to Chestnut Mountain’s “Alpine Slide.” It’s a fun-filled sled ride down the mountainside via chutes, with a ski lift ride back to the top.
During wintertime the South Golf Course in the Galena Territory turns into the Winter Wonderland Nordic Center, featuring cross country skiing, downhill sledding/tubing, and ice skating on a nearby pond. You can rent equipment for a small fee. The Nordic Center is located just a couple of hundred yards from our home.
The Eagle Ridge Resort provides 63 holes of challenging golf, including “The General,” a regular on Golf Digest’s “Top 100 Resort Courses” list. Or, you can try several nearby courses that are less challenging and more modestly priced.
If tennis is your game, you’ll have access to TWO well-maintained Private Tennis Facilities, free of charge. If you like bicycling, bike rentals are available from the Eagle Ridge Inn.
As our guest you’ll gain access to the “Territory Club,” a property owners’ recreational facility that includes an indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, game room, gymnasium, reading/TV room and more.
You’ll be able to rent boats from a private Marina (May through October), as well as fishing gear if you don’t bring your own. The Marina sits on Lake Galena, a serene spring-fed lake three miles long that teems with panfish, bass, crappie, walleye and muskie.
You can go Horseback Riding with guided trail rides via the Shenandoah Riding Center. Or, enjoy free-of-charge dozens of miles of paved picturesque hiking trails that wind throughout The Galena Territory.
Feel like going up, up and away! Hot Air Balloon Rides are available at the Eagle Ridge Inn when weather permits for breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside from up to 4,000 feet above ground.

We travel to Dubuque frequently to visit family. This time we decided to stay in Galena for a family vacation while celebrating Spring. The townhome was just what we were looking for. Quiet and relaxing but offered a spot for our young children to have some fun. The pool was perfect for playtime and the gameroom with gymnasium proved helpful since the weather was not exactly spring-like. The townhome was comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with necessities, a quick trip to Piggly Wiggly and we were set for the week. The highlight of the stay was our opportunity to take daily nature walks. We also enjoyed seeing the variety of birds off the deck.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My friends and I had a wonderful time on our trip to Galena. It was a great place to get away, but not be too far. Even though we were still in Illinois, it felt like we were in a completely different place because we were secluded and away from the noise and business of life. The condo was in ready form when we got there with clean, fresh linens of plenty, beds made and ready, new packages of make up removing wipes in each bathroom, and extra blankets. The owner's had supplied, by email, a very informative welcome package, which was VERY appreciated! It had all of the needed information to get us to and inside the condo as well as enough information for our friends and us to begin forming a plan for activities throughout the weekend. We had a fantastic time (4 adults), but would caution adding any more adults in this size condo- the owner's are very kid-friendly, however.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Excellent two bedroom layout for two adults with kids -- very private. Adults upstairs and kids downstairs. Accomodations were excellent and very clean and well appointed. A short drive to Chestnut Mountain. Access to Owners Club was extremely nice with the indoor pool and game room and gym. A small cute and quiet townhouse. The owner was extremely helpful and an excellent communicator. There were 4 of us and we appreciated the bedrooms and gathering place and close proximity to Galena. The kitchen was generously stocked. It seemed to have some temperature regulation and heat distribution problems in the condo. Otherwise it was just what we wanted. A small group of college friends decided to explore Galena for the last weekend of the year and we had an absolute BLAST! The rental was so welcoming and ready for our arrival. The location is great as well- literally minutes from Eagle Ridge and about 20minutes from Chestnut Mountain. We were well equipped with information regarding activities and restaurants nearby. Jim was very accomodating and even came back to our rental in order to assist us with entrance to Eagle Ridge when he had left town. I definitely recommend renting from Jim & Jenny and would definitely love to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We just returned from a lovely three night stay. The unit was very comfortable and the hosts provided so many extras that just added to the comfort and ease of our stay. We came with three kids and three adults, our family of 5 plus grandma. Our vacation could not have been better. The house is well appointed and the hosts provide many extras like coffee and condiments. The facilities were first rate - our kids had a ball swimming and playing in the game room of the owners club. We are looking forward to returning in the future for a ski weekend.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our group of five thoroughly enjoyed our townhouse stay. Your attention to every detail was much appreciated. We arrived from three states for a delightful, very comfortable and affordable few days near Galena. The walking trails, abundant birds and four legged creatures provided us with much to enjoy in addition to the charming Galena Historic District. Our week-end getaway started a little shaky when we entered our rental unit to find it had not been cleaned after the previous guests had left. After a quick call to the owners, Jim and Jenny, we found out the cleaning lady had been in a serious car accident. The offer from Jim to drive 3 hours to clean the unit was quickly vetoed. It was like "old times" when the 5 of us sisters pitched in, changing beds, doing laundry, cleaning bathrooms etc. (Included in this was much catching up and laughter) and we knew that the cleaning lady's unfortunate accident would NOT put a damper on our week-end. We had looked at several sites and read a lot of reviews before finding this little gem and even with a little "stutter step" at the start we still give this rental a 5 star rating and look forward to coming back!! Galena is a perfect place for us to meet and this cozy little well cared for home was exactly what we wanted. We would definitely recommend this property to others, thanks again Jim and Jenny. Also our prayers go out for a full and quick recovery to the cleaning lady, who we never had the fortune to meet.Owner response: Christine, our housekeeper, got into a serious vehicle accident the night before these guests arrived and was in surgery/unconscious, so unable to contact us about not being able to do the housekeeping for this visit. Christine faces a long recovery and rehab from serious injuries. Meantime, we have already recruited another equally capable housekeeper and have our fingers crossed that no misfortune like this occurs again in our lifetime. We thank you for being so understanding about this tragic situation.

My girlfriends and I chose this cozy-looking retreat based on reviews and the website. We couldn't have been more pleased, from the warm fireplace that we used when the temps fell at night, to the Starbucks stocked in the freezer in the morning. We were as much at home as when we gather in each other's homes for knitting and laughing and relaxing. And we had the unexpected treat of watching the colorful blue and red birds from windows all around. We felt were in our own little birdhouse, nestled in the trees. The owners' attention to detail in their visitor guide, the stocked kitchen and the tasteful and comfortable furnishings make this a definite repeat!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: Jenny and I traveled extensively during long careers as working professionals. We learned a lot about what makes travelers and visitors comfortable, and are determined not to put our guests through some of the “road warrior” horror stories we experienced over the years . As rental property owners in The Galena Territory, we have applied these lessons to make our townhome comfortable, convenient, homey and friendly for all of our guests. For many years we used our townhome as a retreat to decompress from the stress of long hours in high-pressure jobs. It seemed our heads would clear as soon as we crossed the Jo Daviess County line. Now as retirees we still enjoy basking in the serenity and natural beauty of this area and pursuing its abundant recreational and tourist activities. Why the Owner Chose Galena:
Jenny and I first experienced The Galena Territory as renters ourselves when we vacationed here with our two young daughters. That was 25 years ago, and we were so infatuated with the area that one month later we returned to buy a townhouse that at the time existed only as a floor plan. Construction got finished in July of 1987, and we have been enjoying our getaway home out here ever since.
Our daughters have since grown up and we now have three impossibly charming grandchildren that love to visit The Galena Territory with us. This expanded family outgrew our single townhome, so when our neighbors next door decided to sell their unit, we jumped at the chance to acquire additional living space.
