About the area: We’re situated in the hilly terrain of “The Galena Territory,” only 8 miles from the historic town of Galena near the northwest corner of Illinois. Forget flat farmland. Ancient glaciers pushed out in this direction and left behind a scenic wonderland of rolling hills and the highest elevations in the state. Fall coloration is truly a sight to behold in this area.
The town of Galena is renowned for a Main St. lined with shops filled with antiques, collectibles, artwork, wine studios, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, restaurants, bars and more. You can spend hours browsing and shopping.
Another 20-minute drive will take you to across the mighty Mississippi to the vibrant river city of Dubuque, Iowa. If casino gaming and/or dog racing is your thing, this town has some of the best facilities of their kind in the Midwest. If that’s not your thing, Dubuque has a number of other attractions going for it, including a top-notch National River Museum.

Great weekend getaway!
Great weekend getaway!
A wonderful place for my family of 4 to stay. Very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was full of the little things that you might need while preparing meals at home. It was only a short drive to go skiing at Chestnut Mountain and to downtown Galena. We look forward to returning.

This vacation rental met all of our expectations. Very spacious, clean, with ample kitchen supplies. All of the finer details were attended to. The location is close to Chestnut Mountain and downtown Galena. It is located in a beautiful landscape, with various outdoor recreation opportunities. The wildlife within the territory is bountiful, including the various species of birds that could be seen outside the condo windows. The owners go out of their way to provide everything you need. I would definitely recommend this property to others. Thank you for our stay!

Great clean condo.
Great clean condo.
We enjoyed our stay. The condo was very inviting and had everything we needed and more. We met the owners and found them very helpful and pleasant. We had a fun day of skiing at Chestnut Mountain and also did some cross country skiing just outside the condo door. There is something for everyone to do. Looking forward to our next chance to come back to Galena. Thanks Jim and Jenny.

This condo was great for 4 of us (?2 adults and 2 teens) for a New Years ski getaway. It was clean , comfortable and spacious with a big enough living area for all of us to watch football together. The owners have stocked it well with everything we needed including dishwasher soap, hand soap, and extra garbage bags (much appreciated compared to some other places we have stayed!). The drive to Chestnut is about 20 minutes but the "back way" to Galena made it easy to get downtown for dinner We hope to stay here again on our next winter ski trip. I would recommend it to another family as well.

Comfort In Galena
Comfort In Galena
I took my wife to Galena for our 15th wedding anniversary along with our brother-in-law/sister-in-law. The unit provided exactly what we wanted. Clean and fully furnished including kitchen staples. We're in our 40's so getting out of 'the city' (Galena) back to Eagle Ridge, provided the perfect atmosphere after a great dinner out: A game table (taboo, cribbage), morning nature walks, bird watching etc. I'd recommend this unit for two couples but probably not three- the pull out bed which would sleep 5 and 6 is too centric- Small kids maybe but not 6 adults. Final words: close to town, very clean, well stocked, perfect for 4, great for a weekend away. We'd go again and hope to book here when we do.

We enjoyed our stay at your lovely town home.it was clean and well-stocked with everything we needed. We appreciated your binder full of useful information. Would have loved to have a larger tv to watch our Cardinals play ball! But otherwise, comfortable and homey! Thanks and will look forward to a return visit!

Comfortable, Clean, Quiet - fun girls getaway
Comfortable, Clean, Quiet - fun girls getaway
We had a girls getaway at this unit. The unit is lovely - super-clean and the kitchen is very well supplied with everything you could want. The beds were really comfortable. The unit is not huge but certainly can accomodate 4 people...or 6 if it's family (two can sleep on the pull-out sofa). The unit has a very nice deck and the area directly behind is wooded. And...it is a bargain considering the level of quality and care that are provided in the unit. Our only disappointment was the owners' recommedation of Mario's Restaurant in DuBuque. Granted it is a bit less expensive than Vinnie Vanucci's but we felt the food and qualtiy was sub-par. Of course, food is literally a matter of taste but...the bread we were served was just white sliced bread - not the crusty Italian bread. We had to ask for olive oil for our bread. The Parmesan cheese - I think - came out of a Kraft can - not the fresh, pungent Parmesan you get a most good restaurants. We felt the food was mediocre and...the bathroom door opened onto the dininig area. Kinda yuk! Maybe it's changed since the last time the owners were there but we were very disappointed and we are not demanding type folks. It was rather run-down and tired looking. We say stick with Vinnie's. Other than that, it was a great time and the owners have done a lovely job in making this unit truly inviting !!! Gals from Chicago

Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed our condo. As travelers ourselves, we try to make sure you have what you need to ensure relaxation. We are fortunate to have the best housekeeper in the area who keeps everything squeaky clean. I am sorry you had a bad experience at Mario's. You are correct that their regular bread is dismal and the Parmesan is shaker style. We always order the Sicilian Salad which comes with their fantastic pizza bread...essentially a pizza covered in olive oil, garlic and pepper. We love their baked pasta dishes, marinara sauce (made every Monday with fresh plum tomatoes from California) and meatballs. Food is a matter of taste and we will update our owner's guide with specific recommendations and incorporate your experience. It is old, tired and a bit of a dive. The new disabled bathroom is in in the back of the the front dining room. It is brand new and they should put up a wall in front of it. We will mention this to Mario. Thanks so much for staying with us and providing this feedback.
This is a great place at the end of a block of condos with a wooded backyard. It's a 5-10 min drive to the shops in downtown Galena, and even closer to the great golf courses in the area. - It was clean and comfortable - highly recommended!

From the beginning our experience was exceptional. The owners were excellent at helping us out when it came to booking and reserving the unit. We knew what to expect before we got there with the accurate photos and all the helpful hints and information the owners sent previous to our stay. The property was so neat, clean and PEACEFUL for a truly a "get away" experience. We had every item we needed in the unit and the owners went out of their way to make us comfortable. The town was so near we could enjoy both the wooded setting and the quaint town with in moments of each other. I would absolutely recommend this property to others. We can't wait to plan the next trip.

About the owner: Jenny and I traveled extensively during long careers as working professionals. We learned a lot about what makes travelers and visitors comfortable, and are determined not to put our guests through some of the “road warrior” horror stories we experienced over the years . As rental property owners in The Galena Territory, we have applied these lessons to make our townhome comfortable, convenient, homey and friendly for all of our guests. For many years we used our townhome as a retreat to decompress from the stress of long hours in high-pressure jobs. It seemed our heads would clear as soon as we crossed the Jo Daviess County line. Now as retirees we still enjoy basking in the serenity and natural beauty of this area and pursuing its abundant recreational and tourist activities. Even after more than two decades of home ownership in the area, we continue to discover new sights to see and things to do. -- Jim & Jenny Olsztynski, Mt. Prospect, IL
Why the Owner Chose Galena:
Jenny and I first experienced The Galena Territory as renters ourselves when we vacationed here with our two young daughters. That was 25 years ago, and we were so infatuated with the area that one month later we returned to buy a townhouse that at the time existed only as a floor plan. Construction got finished in July of 1987, and we have been enjoying our getaway home out here ever since. Our daughters have since grown up and we now have three impossibly charming grandchildren that love to visit The Galena Territory with us. This expanded family outgrew our single townhome, so when our neighbors next door decided to sell their unit, we jumped at the chance to acquire additional living space.
