Cowichan Bay house description
This is an architecturally designed, west coast style home, red cedar clad walls, vaulted ceilings, wood and ceramic tile floors, open living-room dining- room. All rooms have views of Cowichan Bay, Genoa Bay, Seperation Point, Mt Tzuhalem, and Saltspring Island. Elevator to all four floors as well as staircases. The house is situated on 1.75 maturely landscaped acres. The property slopes to a high steep bluff with trail access to the beach.
This house will entertain you. Things to do: swim lengths in our 36' x 18' indoor pool, have a sauna, watch your favourite movies in the home theatre, relax on the decks and watch the eagles and yachts sail by, curse the many deer as they eat our flowers, listen to the seals barking, play billiards, walk down to the beach. On less pleasant days you can sit in the atrium and enjoy the plants. The kitchen is set up with an eating area and entertainment centre so the cooks need not be isolated.
The third floor has a large master bedroom suite, complete with jacuzzi bath from where you can enjoy views. It also has an ensuite, sitting area with cable TV & DVD and a private deck facing west.
The second floor has two ocean facing bedrooms. The 'purple bedroom' with queen bed, also has a view of the indoor pool. The 'blue bedroom' has a double bed. Both bedrooms share a full bathroom with a jacuzzi sitz bath, again overlooking Cowichan Bay.
From the lounge area you go up a step through the bar area into the office. There are three desks as well as a sitting area, a futon bed, and a computer with high speed wireless connection. An intercom system serves the entire house.
A caretaker lives in the suite above the garage and will answer any questions or concerns.
The colourful village of Cowichan Bay, is approximately a 5 min drive north. It has restaurants and other attractions. We recommend that you take a driver guided tour of the many vineyards in the area, as most will let you sample their products when you visit, drinking and driving is strictly enforced.
Victoria is about 45 minutes south, full of museums, government buildings, restaurants, shopping, theatres, etc. Duncan, 15 minutes north, is good for everyday shopping and has most amenities. A half hour drive north of Duncan is bustling Nanaimo, with shopping malls, a harbour, theatres, clubs, etc.

Soul satifying, an experience!
Soul satifying, an experience!
Three days was not long enough. This place was a unique, fabulous retro experience. I am desperately longing to return. We were first greeted by Martin the owner, who took us on a tour of this enormous retreat, glad he did, as it took me a full day to maneuver its hidden wonders. A home, very warm clean, decorated retro to fit the houses personality..was really more an experience than a place to sleep. I was so taken back by the care and attention to detail all the way from the contents of the buffet to the hamper in the bathroom. I would think I had a favorite room only to be challenged by the next with its personality and charm. My husband hands down loved the media room and spent a day watching football. We had a few guests one day and I was delighted to take them on a tour and watch their chins drop with their "wow's" and I delighted in the fact that they too saw what I loved. You walk in, there is a grand staircase that takes you to a large fully stocked kitchen with panoramic views, off to the left of that was a grand room, fabulous buffet and formal seating area. I spied the buffet to scope out all the dishes I would need should I serve a high tea. The place beckons you to play! Down from there is a long window in the hall that overlooks the pool room. Wow my own pool room! Two great spare bedrooms, and my only regret, a bathroom which had a tub that I did not partake in, a yellow tub that while sitting you could be up to your neck in bubbles. The pool room was the place to be, a leather couch by a fireplace served a cozy place to read or cuddle up. The great out doors peered in on our fun as it was a wet & drizzling day. They say every home has a spirit and this was was speaking to mine, the love and care put into this place showed in every detail, and I found myself dreaming of wanting to share it with others. We stayed in the master bedroom and it again had panoramic views that were breath taking, the tub in the master was spacious and overlooked the ocean front surrounded by polished sealed wood, the closets were spacious, the bed was perfect & had soft fuzzy blankets. I felt so nurtured there, a rare thing to feel when traveling. We felt at home right away, Martin set the stage with a warm welcoming tour. I found myself visiting every space, garden room, media room, office, cooking in the kitchen, sitting in formal room, pool room, decks, on the beach, no idea it was going to be so great & that I would miss it so much!!!

We look forward to returning
We look forward to returning
Two of us came for 3 nights. We were very pleased. This house has views, recreation and privacy. We even saw an aurora looking out the bedroom window after midnight Oct 8/9 (we read about a solar storm on the net). The web site does not fully convey just how private it is. The caretaker lives in a suite above the separate garage, is friendly and never unexpectedly present. The pool lounge area has windows on 2 sides. The south side facing the detached & somewhat distant garage has translucent curtains that maintain privacy while letting in daylight. The nearest houses to the exposed northern windows (all 3 floors) are more than two km away on the other side of the bay (per Google satellite map). The patio is outside the pool / lounge area. It’s almost a full flight of steps from the patio to the yard. The open yard between the house and bay is bounded by a fence, a cliff/bluff and woods. It slopes away from the house and toward the bay. There is a spur path at the north end of the yard that leads 20 meters or so to the Bomford Trail, which is developed, maintained and goes down to the bay. It’s about a 3 minute walk. One night we moved a couple of the adjustable back chairs from the patio into the yard, tilted back, & gazed comfortably at the stars and milky way in a very dark sky. A faint glow which we presumed was from metro Vancouver was faintly visible for just a bit above the horizon. The kitchen is large and appears to be well equipped. We only used the coffee maker and microwave. We ate at the Masthead restaurant, a bit more upscale, with good food and great service, and at Cow Bay Marine Pub, a more relaxed spot, with good food and a great view. Both were located a short drive just down the hill from the house. We enjoyed them both and will return next time we stay here. Other than along the perimeter wall, most of the swimming pool is deep. The shallow end is short, perhaps a meter long. It is easy for two people to cover and uncover the pool in a minute or two. While a bit humid, the pool / lounge room windows stayed clear as long as the pool was covered. The windows did fog up a bit while using the pool. There are several doors and fans that seem to keep the humidity under control in the pool area and isolate the rest of the house from that humidity. We used our own laptop in the second floor formal room with good connectivity. There were too many rooms and too many features for us to use them all. We had a great time.

We stayed at the Cowichan Bay Beach house twice, and we enjoyed staying there both times. The locations is lovely and the house is wonderful! It's very spaceous and the pool is great! The rooms are nice, and the place is easy to navigate, for such a large space. We had a great time there.
