Poipu Palms condo description
Poipu Palms Condominiums
Poipu Palms is a 12 unit condominium complex right on the ocean at Poipu. Our idyllic spot is perfect for travelers who desire a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean in a serene, less populated setting (we are available to a lot fewer guests than larger condominium complexes).
Watch for turtles and dolphin in the summer --or whales in winter-- from your lanai, or from the sun and pool decks. Or simply enjoy the beauty of the island as you relax in your comfortable, oceanfront retreat.
Poipu Palms is ideally situated within walking distance of Poipu Beach Park, Shipwreck Beach, and the fantastic Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa.

We just returned home from Kauai and stayed at this condo for the first six nights of our stay before going to northern Kauai. This place was absolutely stunning. The pictures, though beautiful, really don't do it justice. I would like to hire the interior decorator who designed this condo! The updates are gorgeous and its clear not much expense was spared in updating this unit. This condo is very quiet, incredibly clean and the views are spectacular. We had a wonderful stay here. I have no idea what the one reviewer was complaining about. The t.v. is tucked away in a cupboard (YAY! - never turned it on once, who comes to Kauai to watch tv?). There is a single flight of stairs to walk up. They are not steep and no more than climbing up the stairs at home to the second floor, so no idea again what the complaint was about there. No musty smell at all, just beautiful sea breezes from the ocean! I have stayed in several very nice, updated condos in Kauai and Maui and this is by far the nicest we have stayed at. We would return here in a heartbeat and were very sad to leave!

We had a great time with a killer view and did not want to leave. The place is really nice and remodeled compared to most of the other units I've looked at. Turtles everyday and if your lucky even in April, a whale or two. The view is one of the best, we walked the shore for miles trying to compare. The sounds of crashing waves make you just want to watch for hours on end. We did Kauai 3 yrs ago and did all the tourist stuff and had a great time just relaxing this visit. Park your car right next to the entry up a small ramp and the stairs are no big deal. The previous person may not be able to walk well or maybe they are carried from place to place like King Tut so maybe out of shape. The second room has a pull out pop up mattress under the day bed mattress had they looked. The granite and bamboo floors go well with the decor. The large lanai is private and this end unit has no neighbor on one side. The TV is positioned well and can be viewed from all seating areas. Why come to Kauai to watch the boob tube anyway? Just a bunch of liberal news shows anyhow. Both baths have been redone with large walk in showers. The sofa cushions could be restuffed a bit, too soft for my bad back. The musty smell must have been taken care of we did not notice much of anything during our stay. Ice chest, beach umbrella etc. provided. Go to Costco and stock up they have the best prices. Dinner deals at Keoki's down the street at the shopping center. Great outdoor ambiance with some cute Hawaiian waitress's, wife pointed that out to me LOL. Be prepared to have visits from our little friends the Red Crested Cardinals, one will feed from your hand had to keep the wife from bringing it home. If you like to fish I watched 2 locals, they use a red foam bobber with 3-4 ft of leader, chummed with pieces of bread and just cast off the rocks 10-15 ft left of the deck and caught several fish. You can access the rocks two buildings over and walk in front of this unit and fish the whole area. Not sure what bait, ask the locals, may try bread dough or peas they work when snorkeling. Beautiful sunsets off the Lanai. Thanks for the retreat.

Very much regretted staying here

This unit is indeed oceanfront, with the waves breaking on rocks just outside the balcony, and its height allows for great views of the ocean. Within a few minutes of arriving, we could see whales not far off the coast. It also has wonderful views of the sunset, and we can imagine some people would find this amazing and enchanting. The problems though are not on the outside but on the inside. Just to access the unit, there is a steep climb up perhaps 20 steps. The furniture is old and the closets and drawers have a strong musty smell. The fridge still had food crumbs on the shelves so had not been cleaned properly and many of the decorative items were dusty. There is a television located inside one cabinet but it cannot pivot or come out so it can be viewed only from one sitting position directly opposite. There are two bedrooms but the second bed is only a "day bed" in which only a small child would feel comfortable. Not that we would use that room since it smelt awful, even with the window open - there was a particularly bad odor emanating from the closet. In addition, the adjoining bathroom has such thin window coverings that anyone on the street can see clearly into the bathroom so it is unusable after dark! We three all slept in the one bed, but my wife got up at 4 am saying she could not spend another night in this place. Her parents' former home had a severe mold problem and she said it smelt the same, and did not want to breathe that air anymore, particularly as she is pregnant. It was a terrible way to begin our vacation but we were so miserable in this unit that we were ready to call the airline and fly home. We instead called the realty company who sent a manager to inspect the place and she agreed that she could smell mustiness and mildew in several places in the unit. We are grateful to the owner, however, who refunded our money in full and we were lucky to find a hotel nearby that was available. We therefore spent only one night in this unit and would not recommend it to anyone; the only merit is the view.
