I was given the honors of finding the perfect rental for our family coastal vacation. This meant finding a home that was big enough for 9 people, close to the beach and restaurants and had enough space that everyone was able to relax. Ages ranged from mid 60s to a 7 and 3 year old. I had never rented a property before and I was a little nervous about how this would all go down. This home, and it's owners, exceeded all my expectations. Patrick is very responsive and courteous and you immediately get the sense that he genuinely cares about your experience. He was always quick to reply to my questions about the property and kindly provided us with a list of activities/sites to see, restaurants, etc that are in the area. The home was amazing. We left with all sorts of ideas on upgrades we would love to copy in our own home. The set up was perfect. Kids could splash in the pool with the grandparents while my husband and I escaped to the back yard to drink a glass of wine and watch the sun set over the ocean. At night the fire pit in the back yard was a hit. We finished dinner and would then head out to the fire pit to roast marshmellows and laugh while catching up. The bedrooms are gorgeous..... actually the whole place is gorgeous. You will have a great time at this property. We are already discussing going back next year!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We highly recommend this property for a vacation rental. We were in town for my brother's wedding and were able to stay as a family at this location. Bedrooms were spread out enough that family (7 adults, 3 kids) were not on top of each other, plenty of outdoor living space for socializing and pool/hot tub time, gorgeous kitchen with everything supplied as if we were in our own kitchen, and beautiful panoramic views of ocean, bay and San Diego. One in our party was in a wheelchair and accessibility was great. Short drive to local restaurants and bars and walking/running distance to local trail as well as ocean. Highly recommend (I would also recommend for families with young children- ours are 9, 7, and 4- but you do need to be cautious about pool area and locking doors, etc.).Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Great Family Vacation in La Jolla
Great Family Vacation in La Jolla

For our annual family vacation this year we decided to vacation in San Diego. We needed accommodations for nine adults and two children, so we needed a large house. We found this property in La Jolla and immediately contacted Patrick. He was very responsive and patient while I "grilled" him about his property. After seeing many photos and speaking with Patrick we reserved the house, and at the time, there were no reviews posted. I was a bit nervous - but, the property ended up working out perfectly!!! Working with Patrick was a pleasure, and our large family had an amazing time at this vacation property. The check-in with the real estate agent went smoothly, and the property was very much as described. The only drawbacks that I could even mention, would be that the house has a bit of a strange layout, there was no shared common TV (which ended up being ok), and the two master bedrooms are so enormous - it's kind of amusing. Also, the library/den with the pull-out couch is really not a bedroom at all - and the pull-out couch was not great. We ended up using a blow-up mattress, which was fine in the end - but it would be nice to have a better "bedroom" feel. With that said, the rest of the property is amazing! The kitchen is updated and lovely to cook in. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The best part truly is the POOL area and fire pit with a view to die for! We spent almost all day out there and the kids loved to run around and swim. The property was clean and "vacation-ready." A big plus was the library filled with some truly amazing authors. A unexpected perk that many of us enjoyed. The property is a bit away from beaches and attractions, but La Jolla is very easy to navigate and it was nice being a bit secluded. Bird Rock was close and there was an Albertson's right down the street. Overall, I would highly recommend this property and I am a very picky renter. Thanks again to Patrick - we had a great family vacation! Recommendations: Tide Pool/Coves in La Jolla, Garnet Avenue shopping and beach area, Mission Bay Aquatic Park, Coronado Beach (best beach in San Diego, I think. A bit of a drive, but worth it). And - best of all - staying at the house and BBQ'ing and swimming - then smore's by the fire pit enjoying the amazing sunsets and Sea World firework show each night!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your review Thomas and Kathleen. We have made some improvements to the house since your stay, and have included a large Flat screen HDTV in the common living room area. The house has now 3 TV (all cable), and 2 DVD players!

We spent a week at the property and enjoyed the space. The kitchen was recently updated and it was very nice and spacious. There are two very large master suites and they are on opposite sides of the house. We enjoyed the pool and the spa. The views are magnificient and there is a nice fire pit area for sitting to enjoy the ocean views as well. Both master suites have great views. The only thing we missed was a tv in the great room and yes were on vacation, but, we still missed it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thanks for your review. We will look into getting a third TV in the house! I am glad to hear that the family reunion worked out and the house was spacious for the whole family to enjoy while having privacy.

Our family just completed an eight-night stay at this property and could not have been more pleased. The owners were responsive and detailed in communication. The house is spacious, the kitchen is terrific. Same with the ocean views and amazing privacy for being within a neighborhood. Access to grocery stores and other outlets was ideal. True, there was some desire to have more TVs, especially in the main living room, but it is not a major complaint. We would strongly recommend this property to anyone, including a return visit for ourselves.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

well...someone asked step back here, and be more objectively analytical. we chose this unit (second choice) because it was listed with the "big dogs – the highfliers". It was listed in the top? 5% of pricing for this type of home, in the La Jolla/San Diego area. Without boring the reader with our travel history, hotel history, a renter of our own properties in the past,, this unit was it charitably "not as advertised". – The preceding e-mail/telephone correspondence should have been a tipoff that this owner was not a veteran renter. – The contracts and arrivals/exit list of property (? Including a clock on the mantel piece? – Which was never there) were unusual and strange, for a high-end rental. – At this level (including security deposit), one does not expect to have to count candlestick holders and silverware both entering and leaving the promise. – The furnishings were – – well, rather sparse, again considering the price of the rental. – The beds were adequate (not nice), and the upstairs bedroom with fireplace had a mattress pad and no box spring –hmmm… – both the pool and the Jacuzzi were out of order/off-limits, and – we were not notified of this until we arrived… Also, the garbage disposal unit in the kitchen was out of order and although we were promised it would be fixed, it was not. – The weather was breezy, and we discovered the unit was somewhat drafty and cool, which would be nice on a summer day but – all days are not summer days in La Jolla. – All things considered, the unit was adequate at best, lacking in several areas, in one we would certainly not consider renting again. Introspect, and in retrospect, when comparing similar units in the La Jolla area in that price range, I would urge readers to be very careful with what they asked for.Did you find this review helpful? We recently stayed here for four nights and can't say enough great things about the property! Our group was two families with kids and the setup was perfect to give us the feeling of our own space at times, like two houses in one. We had small children and one aspect of the house not mentioned much is the nicely sized fenced-in front/side lawn area adjacent to the pool which gave our children a great place to run around and play while being "contained" :) As has been mentioned in other reviews, the views are amazing from both sides of the house and the area is wonderful. The owners were very professional and easy to work with, even giving us information on their favorite places to eat/visit in the surrounding area, many of which we used (Bird Rock Roasters, Station Sushi, Beaumont's).Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a great time. We had two large families here and it was plenty spacious. There are essentially two amazing master suites - one with a city view and one an ocean view. We used the wood fire pit, the pool, hot tub, and basketball hoop. Good Times!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was our first time using VRBO. Onaiza and Patrick were a breeze to work with, and so patient with our questions! We had family coming in from out from Colorado that we couldn’t accommodate, and wanted to find a place where we could all feel at home—this house was perfect! The views were spectacular, and the house is perched on a hill with virtually no traffic. The quiet sounds of birds and the breeze can be hard to come by close to the hustle and bustle of the beach, and it was so relaxing! The open kitchen and pool area are beautiful and helped make the atmosphere lively and engaging, but the house was spacious enough to feel complete privacy as well. There were a few comments made about the lack of television in the main room, but I was very happy about it. After all, who rents a beautiful house in San Diego just to sit around and watch tv?! Cooking in the kitchen was great fun, easy to navigate and stocked with plenty of cookware. The pool and jacuzzi were a wonderful treat, and the controls were simple to use. The two master bedrooms were comfortable and both woke up to lovely views of the ocean. Lounging in the backyard around the fire at sunset was my favorite time here, and I didn’t want to leave! We really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely rent this house again when the family takes a another break from winter and descends on sunny San Diego.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
