23795 Marshall Gulch Road Hill City, SD
Authentic hand hewn log cabin located on a hillside overlooking a serene valley on 6 acres just 2 miles west of Hill City. Patterson Creek, a mountain brook flows within view below the cabin. Deer and turkey are frequent visitors in the yard! The cabin is tastefully decorated with decor fitting the mountain atmosphere. This cozy cabin has a king size bed in the loft, a double bed in the downstairs bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. New in 2013: Leather sofa and two mission style leather recliners. The kitchen is spacious for a family of 6. There is one bathroom with tub, shower and laundry. The loft bedroom has a window AC (rarely needed in our mountain altitudes). Board games and playing cards available for rainy or snowy days. There is a new 47 inch flat screen satellite TV in the living room, along with a real wood burning fireplace! A privacy fence surrounds the outdoor hot tub. The back patio with a gas log firepit has plenty of outdoor seating to have your morning coffee, outdoor meals, or just sit and watch wildlife. (Wood burning fire pits are restricted in the Black Hills National Forest). This cabin sits on a hillside overlooking the valley below. This rental is a time honored favorite for repeat guests. NO PETS/NO SMOKING. No exceptions!

My husband and our two boys (13 & 10) stayed here the first week in April. It truly was the perfect place for us. It was wonderful to come back after a full day of hiking and sightseeing and have such a comfortable place to relax in. The hot tub was very enjoyable too! The area where the cabin is situated is so quiet. I don't think we saw a single person in the vicinity the entire week. There are other homes situated nearby, but far enough away that even if they had been occupied it would have still felt very private. My only regret is not having a couple more days there to enjoy the lovely porch! Hill City is a great central location too. We had a great dinner at Bumpin Buffalo's in town (the Bison Ribeye was AMAZING!) Also had a delicious steak dinner at the Alpine Inn. Would also recommend the Big Time Pizza in Keystone. The Black Hills Museum of Natural History in Hill City is worth the stop. It looks small from the outside but there are a ton of things to see inside. Our boys really enjoyed this. We had planned on making it a quick stop en route to Rushmore but ended up spending a couple of hours there. Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely cabin. It was truly perfect and we would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This place is so wonderful.. we stayed here for our honeymoon and thougt the cabin was just fabulous...the scenery is beautiful and we liked that it was off the beaten path...not having the noise of traffic driving by..we would see deer quite frequently outside the cabin. You have everything you need at the cabin.. and Hill City is just down the street if you want go get groceries or supplies, or just plain go shopping in the cute little shops..you will love it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Being from South Dakota, we have always appreciated all that the Black Hills offers tourists and now as home owners. Hill City has become our favorite part of the Black Hills and truly is the 'Heart of the Hills'. We enjoy hiking in the forest and Harney Peak, taking our jeep for a ride, fishing, visiting with friends, and of course the daily visits from deer and turkeys. We hope you consider Marshall Gulch Getaway for your vacation home. Thanks for looking!
