Escape & Enjoy Log Cabin Life. The log cabin vacation home at Indian Springs Lodge is perfect for your honeymoon, birthday, anniversary, scrap booking retreat, corporate retreat and more. It accomodates couples and families or anyone looking to get away and enjoy themselves.
The three bedroom, two bath log home sleeps six (adults) or eight (six adults, two children), but is quite cozy for two. It has all the modern amenities, such as central air, radiant heat, a full kitchen, a single jet tub, a jet tub for two, washer/dryer, ceiling fans, and a gas fired free standing stove. All linens, cookware, and dinnerware is provided. Enjoy two TV's, one with a DVD player, and one with a VCR.
Indian Springs is secluded in the woods at the edge of a 277 acre farm in the rolling hills of beautiful northwestern Illinois. The area is untouched by glaciers of thousands of years ago.
Sauk Indians once walked this land, leaving behind artifacts such as the gorget found on the dam when the pond was being excavated. Marked with mysterious tally marks, the rare gorget may have been a decoration worn by a shaman or chief. Legend has it that some tribes would break the gorget upon the death of its wearer to release the spirit for its journey home. The Toay Family has preserved this heritage by adding a totem pole and gorgeous painted tipi to their vacation home site. Meanwhile, Canada Geese land on the pond with grace, and the Wood Duck mother secretly skits around to protect her babies from danger.
Guests remark how much they enjoy this serene setting from the raised deck, listening to the tranquil silence. Go fishing in the private pond, then grill your catch of the day with the gas grill or Weber charcoal grill on the patio beneath the deck. Enjoy your dinner on the comfortable patio furniture on the screen porch or back at the pond on the picnic table. Take in the spectular Jo Daviess County sunset.
Some of the bloodiest battles of the Black Hawk War, an American-Indian conflict that took place in 1832, were fought in this region. Just 25 minutes away near Woodford, WI, a small, but decisive battle took place on the shores of the Pecatonica River at Bloody Lake. The Apple River Fort, Elizabeth IL (15 min) offers interesting history of the area with authentic reenactments.
Apple River Canyon State Park is a stone’s throw away from Indian Springs. Formerly known as the town of Millville, named after its sawmill industry, it once thrived. Millville survived the Black Hawk War and the rowdy “lead rush” days, but succumbed to a devastating flood in 1892.
Today, quaint, historic towns dot the countryside and invite your exploration for dining, antiques, crafts, and more, including our own historic Stockton, Warren, and Galena.
Indian Springs is unique in that it is located in the center of points of interest and activities galore. Some guests have returned twice a year since the home was built in 2002. Then there are the guests who, upon arrival, state they are "merely going to sleep here" and spend days away. Their vehicle leaves the first day, but hardly moves the rest of their stay. When asked why they didn't leave every day, they remark that Indian Springs is so "laid back" they love the atmosphere and prefer to "stay home" and enjoy it . At night they light a fire in one of the pits and envision the Native Americans who walked this land before us or simply lie on the picnic table and lose their thoughts as they gaze at the stars in the Heavens.
Escape to our log cabin vacation rental home near Galena, IL, to relax your mind, revitalize your body, and reacquaint yourself with nature.

I have had the opportunity to spend three different weekends (summer, fall and winter) at Indian Springs Lodge and cannot wait to return! I found this beautifully decorated Lodge far enough away from the everyday noise of life, but close enough to Galena and other quaint and interesting locations (wineries, antique stores, restaurants etc.) to accomodate everyone in our group. The Lodge is incredibly well maintained and accomodates those who love to spend time in a kitchen with all of the right equipment to turn out awesome meals. The property is large enough to accomodate hikers or you can spend time relaxing on the very spacious porch overlooking the lake and natural surroundings. A group of four of us have (individuals-not couples) have all enjoyed our own "space" and the bedrooms and beds are spacious and comfy! The owners are incredibly helpful (if needed) and a great source of information on the history of the area and surrounding location. On our last trip ((January, 2012), we took a short drive to Mineral Point, WI, which was full of antique stores, an awesome pottery shop and lots of historical sights that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Spending time at Indian Springs Lodge has become an annual tradition for our group and we look forward to returning later this year!!

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: Having just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, we have lived on this property since 1974. Janice's parents purchased the farm in 1955. In another 45 years, the land will have been in the family for a century! Janice was born in the neighboring farmhouse, one-half mile down the road. Like the old Virginia Slims commercial, "She has come a long way, Baby!" We raised three children with a goal of each of them attaining an undergraduate degree. Through their hard work and perseverance, we met our goal. Our oldest son graduated from Purdue (1985). Our daughter is our middle child. and she graduated from Augustana, Rock Island, with a masters from University Nebraska, Lincoln. Our youngest son graduated from Iowa State (2000). We enjoy our three grandchildren, who keep our life interesting! Our oldest son and his wife have a daughter (10) and a son (7). Our daughter has a son (11). Denny was a district manager, seed corn, for over 30 years. He and three partners started their own seed company in the mid-eighties. He "retired" four years ago, but now is busy driving a semi hauling grain from field to dryer and from storage to the elevator. He works for a young farmer who cash rents our farm. Janice had a wallpapering/painting business and did a lot of work at the Galena Territory. She has been elected supervisor of Rush Township since 1993 and is serving her fifth term. She has served in an appointed position, secretary-treasurer of Black Hawk Park District, since 1973, with the exception of an eight year hiatus in the mid-nineties.

                          Why the Owner Chose Galena:
Janice became familiar with the vacation home rental business while working at the Galena Territory. We decided that we had the perfect situation to build our own vacation home. Unique in that we would be building it in a wooded area on our 277 acre farm, we decided we would like to share our lifestyle with our guests. Construction was completed in 2002. All the materials were purchased locally, and we hired a local construction company to build it. We were our own general contractors and are proud of the fact that we finished the wood interior and hand sanded every log and board twice. We hand sanded the wood before we applied the first coat of finish, then, again, before we applied the second coat. We do all our own work, from taking the reservations to cleaning the home to lawn care. This is a true “Mom and Pop” operation, because we hire no extra cleaning personnel. A very reliable and talented carpenter is responsible for any repairs. Our property receives tender loving care, because we want our guests to be comfortable and satisfied, with a devine desire to return again and again. We are just a phone call away if anyone needs our assistance. Our lives have been enriched by personal contact, which has developed into many, cherished friendships. We knew Indian Springs was a jewel in that it is located six miles from the Wisconsin state line and 45 miles from the Iowa state line, in the center of numerous points of interest. In closing, our dream that Indian Springs would offer our guests an opportunity to build a lifetime of memories by experiencing the natural beauty of rural northwestern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin, has come true.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Indian Springs, bathed in history, is built on the site of a former cheese factory. Farmers delivered their milk to the factory by horses in the early twentieth century before it closed in the thirties or forties. Some of the lime, factory foundation rock was used for landscaping the log home. The rock wall near the lower drive was part of the original factory and was left intact. The water supply is the original, deep, artesian well dug for the cheese factory. The water is pure and fresh and pumped directly from the source. The 1 A. pond, excavated in 2001 and stocked with pan fish and bass, is 95 feet from the home at lawn’s edge. Our farmstead is located .8 mile southwest of Indian Springs. Another 1 A. pond at the home farm is stocked with catfish, pan fish, and bass. Some 24-30” catfish were taken from this pond last summer, and guests are welcome to fish there, also. Hiking trails run throughout the woods. Bring proper shoes to take a stomp in the rock bottom creek. Safely bike and hike the back roads, traffic is not an issue. Witness the spring planting ritual, and come prepared to ride in a combine during fall harvest. Several golf courses are within 20 minutes. Enjoy three state parks, abundant with native vegetation, flowers, wildlife and peppered with hiking trails. The Mighty Mississippi beckons you to the Port of Dubuque with daily river cruises or an evening prime rib cruise. Win the jackpot at the casino in Dubuque before returning to the cabin. There are three wineries within twenty minutes of Indian Springs. Access to ATV/snowmobile trails is minutes away, running all the way to Madison or west to the Dodgeville, WI, area. Guests have experienced different ethnic backgrounds, savoring their food specialties, and touring micro-breweries and cheese factories. Monroe, New Glarus, and Shullsburg, WI were settled by the Swiss. Miners from Cornwall settled Mineral Point, WI, and the Scandinavians settled Argyle.
