This cabin was a brilliant family Christmas home. My family spent a week there over Christmas break 2011, with everyone flying in from different parts of the country it was great to be able to spend a relaxing week in a cabin that felt like home as soon as we arrived. With a fire raging nightly, comfy couches, large dining area, games, puzzles, books and a plethora of beds to chose from our time was much enjoyed. Note that the kitchen floor is rather chilly so do be sure to bring your slippers, and the kitchen appliances are rather old, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying lots of home cooked family meals! The location is outstanding, situated just off Donner Lake, perfect for morning runs and evening strolls to watch the sunset and quick access to Sugarbowl and other ski resorts. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend it to friends.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: happy to report we have a new electric oven/gas cooktop being installed spring 2011!

This is a great house and a great location. Our family has stayed there for years and we all love it! You can walk to the lake, drive to local ski resorts, ride you bike. The inside is comfy with it's overstuffed furniture, new carpet and the creature comforts of home. washer, dryer, dishwasher, fully stocked kitchen, cozy beds, big fireplace and plenty of parking.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: Greg and I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and other areas such as Turkey, Stockholm, Oslo and Canada and so far we both agree, nothing beats the beauty of Donner Lake! We love to golf, hike, CX ski & bike the summit. But our favorite thing to do is to hang out on the back deck with friends BBQing, reading and napping. We live in Sacramento and love the fact that our trip is 90 minutes door to door. The Donner cabin is our home away from home.
Why the Owner Chose Truckee:
This home has been in my family for many years. The cabin, know as just that, 'the cabin' is where I spent my summers growing up and remains my favorite place to this day. We traveled from the Bay Area every weekend, the 5 of us. My parents enjoyed the Truckee lifestyle and sense of community so much that they ended up building their full time residence 12 miles away in a neighborhood called Glenshire. My mother and brother both call Truckee their home and remain very active in the community. I, on the other hand am not a snow lover so much that I want to live in it full time So Greg and I reside down in the flat lands of Sacramento, Ca during the winter months.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Road riding up the summit is high on my list of favorite things to do and it's just outside our front door. Also some great hiking is 5 minutes away. One of the things I love most is the sense of community. The neighborhood is always buzzing with activity during the summer months. Families walking, kids playing and biking, dogs barking. You can smell the BBQ's of others and hear laughter from down the street. Neighbors are visiting and entertaining and everybody is friendly offering a kind word. The community feels alive. During the winter months things tend to slow down and the quiet is so very peaceful and beautiful. There are a million stars in the sky. It's just amazing to look up and see them. But if there is a full moon lighting up the lake - WOW is all I can say. When the snow falls it's like a wonderland and time for some hot coco and a good book or some cross country skiing. YA!
