this is my second time staying at this lovely home. i found what i was looking for in the simply decorated, clean lines, and amazing windows looking out into the incredible big sur forest. the owner, aaron patch, is friendly, accommodating, and i'm jealous that he has grown up in big sur. i plan on returning, again and again. thank you for sharing this spiritual place.

We found the cabin to be comfortable, well appointed, and conveniently located to Big Sur parks and Carmel/Point Lobos. The beds are very comfortable with memory foam mattress toppers, something we enjoy on our own bed. The on-demand hot water heater provides plenty of hot water. The kitchen is well appointed with newer appliances and all the cooking and tableware you will need for your stay. The only reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 are there are no clothes washer and dryer on site, and heat is provided by a wood stove, a minor inconvenience. Also the cabin is located two mile up a narrow, but paved, canyon road so drive slowly and with your lights on to alert oncoming traffic. We were almost hit my someone pulling out of their driveway and failing to look in our direction before pulling into the road. A pleasant surprise is the cabin cat who lives outdoors, but expects meals, something we gladly provided. The internet service is slow but reliable. The TV is not connected to satellite or cable but the owner provides an extensive DVD collection of movies. Finally, note there is a long drive way (about 30 meters) that's not easy to back down, so park at the bottom in the space provided and walk up to the cabin where there are about 4 steps up to the deck and door.

The cottage was a modern day habitable haiku of brilliance. My favorite memory is of the candy colored magenta greens from the red wood forest, that transcended all my expectations. The location was great and provided easy access to all the main attractions along Highway 1.

We had a lovely time staying in this cabin. It has a real rustic feel, which was helpful in feeling away from it all. Aaron was quick to answer my questions, and ample wood was supplied for the fireplace upon arrival. I stayed here with my sister and my parents.

It was a perfect little cabin -- very charming up in the woods. It has all been recently renovated so looks cool and was pristine clean when we showed up. The tickets to the Monterey Aquarium were a huge bonus too, as they are normally very expensive and the aquarium is amazing.

We were lucky to spend some time in Aaron's cabin this January. Aaron communicated with us before our trip, and he was there to meet us and get the first going on arrival. We felt very at home in the cabin, which has gorgeous picture windows and a quiet bedroom with a feather topped bed. While the redwoods would suggest "rustic," the cabin is actually very sophisticated in its design. Even the plates were beautiful. We roasted a whole fish the first night and a chicken the second night in the well appointed kitchen. While the cabin is cozy, it does have a four-seat dining table, plenty of storage, and a deck that's almost as big as the house! I'd also like to add that the shower was wonderful - tons of hot water! As other reviewers have noted, the wood stove makes for a warm evening by the first. I've already recommended the cabin to friends, and I hope we'll have a chance to go back. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for a quiet, secluded cabin from which to explore the Big Sur coast this is a great choice. It's proximity to Carmel and Monterey affords you the chance to visit those great towns yet still experience the tranquillity of the redwood canyon it's perched in. My sister, our parents and I stayed here for 4 nights and found it to be just big enough for 4 adults to stay comfortably. Although it sleeps 6, I would only stay with this many people if you plan on spending most of your time outside of the cabin. We were also here during the cooler, rainer season, but if it were warmer we could have made use of the outside porch and grill area. Adam was very attentive to our needs and I would definitely recommend this property for the value. The cabin is newly updated in the kitchen and bathroom and felt very clean upon arrival. If you stay in the winter when it's cold, be prepared to heat with the wood stove. It keeps the space very warm very quickly! Also, follow the directions they give you or else you will have a hard time finding it!

The cabin was spacious for the two of us, and could easily accommodate two or three more. We had a great, relaxed weekend. And although it took us a little while to figure out how to work, the wood-burning stove was a fun feature.

We both, along with our dog, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin is wonderful and feels like home. Aaron and April have stocked the place well and ensured our stay was pleasant. The location is perfect for trips to Big Sur hiking trails or heading north to seaside Carmel, inland or even a day trip to San Francisco. Also, we enjoyed our walks along Palo Colorado Road with our dog. We plan to recommend this place to friends and family. We can't wait to find time to come back for another stay and look forward to it.

Beside all of the physical and natural beauty of the house and its setting was the security and comfort of the owner, Aron, living nearby. He checked in twice during our one week vacation just to make sure everything was ok. Also, as a longtime resident of the area, he knew some of the best beaches etc. Thank you Aron. The house itself is comfortable, extremely clean and has many modern amenities. The surrounding area was full of wild blackberries, ferns, redwoods etc. The climate is incredible.

My fiancée and I spent two days in this cabin. It is well located in a quiet forest section with tall redwoods surrounding it. The cabin was very clean with a wide range of amenities including gas cookers, fridge and internet access. Being close to Carmel and other attractions was also very convenient and afforded us great sightseeing opportunities. Just ensure that you have detailed direction as we struggled to find the cabin initially.

My husband and I were impressed with the owner's generosity and hospitality to us on our honeymoon. The cabin is very accurately represented, and we found that the cabin matched the description from the VRBO site. As another reviewer mentioned, the cabin has been updated in a way that maintains a beautiful, rustic style. It has gorgeous features that my husband and I really enjoyed! It is nestled very peacefully into the surrounding redwoods and is a very convenient drive from the beach and the city of Carmel. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

What an amazing experience we had on our honeymoon vacation! First we would like to thank Aaron and April for taking such good care of us! The owners of this tranquil and fairy book like setting made beautiful arrangements for our special week. The breathtaking view as you turn up the road to the property only gets more inviting as you begin to drive through a redwood forest. The cabin is a close drive but yet far enough from the water to miss most of the morning fog. Even thought you are minutes from town you feel like you are in the middle of an enchanted forest. The amenities are plentiful inside the cabin with all the basic cooking utensils, dishes and extras. There is even a propane grill right outside and a great spice rack. The bedrooms look out into the forest and this is when you feel like you are away from it all and can really relax. The cabin has a hanging flat screen T.V. with a DVD player and a large selection of movies to choose from. We also enjoyed the selection of board games available. It is obvious the cabin has been newly remodeled ( all the fixtures and appliances are brand new) but they did such a beautiful job restoring it with an old world feel. It was fun to curl up by the wood burning stove and enjoy reflecting on our daily adventures to Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a special getaway or in need of relaxation and rejuvenation. Thanks again!

I thought this cabin was too good be to true when we booked out vacation. When we arrived I realized that the post didn't even do it justice! The drive up the canyon to the house is amazing, through the redwoods, winding up a creek. The cabin itself is very serene and quiet, surrounded on all sides by trees. You have a wood stove but also many modern conveniences (the wifi was better than expected). I was quite impressed with the kitchen and bathroom, which were very well designed and equipped. The owner (Aaron) is very helpful but not at all intrusive. When we asked if we could bring an outdoor chair into the cabin for our baby's highchair he said, "while you are here the place is like your own home, do as you'd like". I was impressed! We also felt like it was perfectly situated for a number of different interests. We hiked, seal and otter watched, spent time in Carmel and Monterey, and did some scenic drives, all within easy reach. After 10 days it was hard to leave, we hope to come back again!

My husband and I were delighted with the experience we had at this sweet retreat. The cabin wasn't too hard to find. It was just off the road, but it was very quiet and tranquil. The "eco chic" interior and setting was nice. I especially appreciated the modern bathroom. Everything was new and the cabin was as good as the pictures. The owner gave us advice about the local scene but we never left. We hope to come back in the fall and recharge again.
