  There was nothing upscale about the place but it was PERFECT! The apartment was very clean, cozy and complete in basic amenities. The décor is neutral and the architecture quite impressive with wooden jalousies, large veranda, Romeo and Juliet porch in the bedrooms and vaulted ceilings. What makes the place make you want to return (and there are very few places that make you want to do that) is twofold – 1) amazing staff (especially Angela and Jerry) and b) unbelievable ocean views from the apartment. The beach is so private and peaceful – no tourists except for the occasional restaurant guests at nearby Bussola's (expensive Italian Restaurant). From the apartment one hears the endless sound of gently crashing waves and birds day and night - and sometimes laughter from happy restaurant guests. The blue green waters are so beautiful for swimming as if it is energized with healing powers. I was sooo happy there and totally renewed upon my return to New York. Thank you Brian and staff.

  This does not quite do the landscaping and property accurately. The landscaping is beautiful and kept up daily by a remarkable, friendly groundskeeper! The beach is adequate but falling into the ocean due to a past hurricane. Don't let that stop you! It has a beautiful view (especially for sunsets), the water is warm and lovely and there is plenty of space to lay out and enjoy the peace and quiet. The owner, Brian Gordon is a very friendly, accomodating owner. If you ask, you shall receive. The apartment we stayed in was a corner apt and had nice breezes and missed the full sun of the late afternoon. The apartment was cute and plenty spacious, but slightly run down. A good paint job and fixing up the showerhead in the master bath would be a big help. For the amount that Brian is charging, this is a great deal. The property, the quiet and the close proximity to Dickenson Bay makes it worth your while. Don't expect luxury, just some pretty property, quiet, and the best restaraunt in town. I'm not kidding.... La Bussola is the absolute best place to eat in Antigua. Christian and Michael and the chef and waitresses have us rate this establishment, the best in the Caribbean that we have found. From fish to pasta to pizza, it is fantastic. Peppers on Dickenson Bay is another place we loved. Good food, good staff, beautiful views! I would recommend this property to anyone who is just looking for a comfortable place to stay with no frills. I would also recommend bringing some mosquito spray and that's for any place on the island. .

  Owner response: The beachfront apartments did receive a new paint job, plus other fixes, in the 10 day quiet spell just before the winter season began. As well as all new living room furnishings, high quality patio furnishings as well as new towels, sheets, bedspreads and kitchen improvements. All Caribbean beaches can suffer very temporary erosion during the winter months, from winter swells that build all the way across the Atlantic. Almost always nature has put the sand back in place in a few days as long as its left to nature to rectify. Antigua's last hurricane was a Cat 1 in 1999.   My husband and I spent several days in this apartment during the second week of May 2012. This was our first trip to Antigua. When we arrived on Saturday afternoon we were surprised at how quiet the beach and grounds at Barrymore were. The apartment was clean, roomy and comfortable, though not luxurious. There is air conditioning in the bedroom, but the windows provide adequate breezes, even though it got hot during the day. We loved being able to go to the grocery store (nearby) and have food and drinks available. There was no restaurant except LaBussola within walking distance on the beach, although one could walk to the Dickinson Bay restaurants on the road. We had a car which made the 2 minute ride there easy. Brian was not in town during our visit, but Christian at LaBussola checked us in and gave us ice and coffee filters. Jeremiah, the groundskeeper, was very nice and helpful. He even showed us photographs of Runaway Beach prior to hurricanes that changed it in 1995 or so. We also met the security guard who was there every night, although we never felt the need for security. The beach is not large but it is immaculate and gorgeous, as was the water. We loved sitting in the beach chairs reading and then taking a swim. There was virtually no one around during most of our stay. We learned this is the "off" season in Antigua, and the whole island was not crowded or busy. However, it was very lovely. We traveled all over the island, including English Harbour, Shirley Heights, Valley Church and the other lovely beaches in that area, and also took Eli Fuller's Eco Tour which was spectacular. We were glad we had a car as it would have been impossible to visit those areas without one as they are not close. It is true that Antigua has some of the most beautiful beaches and water in the Caribbean. The best thing about this property is LaBussola, which was literally only steps from our apartment. We had dinner there twice (not open for lunch at this time) and it was wonderful both nights. We absolutely loved not having to drive anywhere so we could enjoy some wine. We spent the evenings on the balcony enjoying the breeze and the sound of the waves. This is not the place for someone who wants to be in the middle of the action. It is the place for someone who loves privacy, quiet, and appreciates the natural beauty it has to offer. If we visit Antigua again we will stay here. It was our own private little piece of Paradise!

  My boyfriend and I took a quick trip down to Antigua to escape the cold NYC winter. We couldn't have been happier. Brian's apartment was GORGEOUS and Immaculately clean. The soaring cathedral ceilings were awesome and the big porch was icing on the cake. We prepared breakfasts and lunches in the kitchen and spent so much time in our private little beach-backyard! There is a delicious, upscale Italian restaurant situated conveniently on the property. We were lucky enough to meet Brian while we were there and it felt like catching up with a friend. He's very helpful, knows the island very well and always answered my many emails. We almost didn't even need the wifi in the place because Brian answered all of our questions on what to do, where to go and where to shop for groceries. We Had an amazing time, took lots of pictures and will not stay anywhere other than Brian's Runaway Bay apartments. They're beautiful, private and clean and how perfect is that! Thank you so much for everything Brian!!!

  We stayed in the 2-bedroom apartment for a week in January. We had a great time.....the apartment has a beautiful view over the ocean. We enjoyed breakfast on the balcony looking out to sea every morning. The beach is lovely.....semi-private and a great place to just enjoy the sand and the sea. This apartment is everything you need for a relaxing vaction. There also are several restaurants within walking distance. I definitely would suggest this apartment for anyone looking for a great vacation!

  Hi, Brian. I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying in your condo. It was like being in paradise there and having our own private beach was such a plus. Also thank you for lending us the beach towels. We look forward to staying with you again whenever we get out that way.
