A Guest Cottage located in Central Nanaimo, minutes from Departure Bay ferries and a vibrant downtown centre.
Make your stay on Vancouver Island a magicial one, in this enchanted space; suitable for 2-3 people.
Full kitchen, laundry, steps to a park , shopping and transit make this location desirable.
The cottage is on two levels behind the main house. The lower level offers a comfortable queensize sleigh bed, ample dresser and closet space, T.V. with DVD/VCR (a variety of movies are available). A door to the outside accessing a private yard with seating and a gateway to a charming treed laneway leading to a neighbourhood park.
Your choice of Egyptian Cotton or Flannel seats, abundant pillows and cozy duvets. An electric fireplace offers ambient lighting and warmth. The decor embraces you with rich jewel tones and beachy motifs. Much of the art has been created by local artisans from the area, past and present.
Washer/ dryer combo and drying rack are discreetly accessible on this level.
A large window looking out to the main yard with flower gardens, hazelnut, holly and fruit trees. Fresh figs in season, hang over the cottage yard.
The cottage was custom built in an A-frame style, with fir planks from a nearby island. The main floor, is accessed up two steps through the front door and into a bright, warm and well equiped kitchen. Spices, bodum, cookware and utensils allow for creative cooking and baking.
The Guest House has a welcoming feel and provides a relaxing sanctuary.
Bright windows offer neighbourhood, treed views providing suitable privacy. A round pedestal based oak table allows for 4 to six people to be comfortably seated. A loveseat opens to a single bed. A bookshelf, floor cushions,otoman and reading lamp invite you to curl up with a good book or a laptop with wireless internet.
A four piece bathroom with renovated shower and bath expresses a quaint marine theme.
A block from marinas and the seawall, which takes you along the waterfront and into downtown. World class diving sites minutes away, sailing, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming are mere steps.
Within view, is the beautiful and serene Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park, part of Snuneymuxw First Nation Traditional Territory, great for picnics, hikes, swimming and observing nature.

I had the pleasure of staying at Lobelia's Guest House for a month earlier this year. What an excellent stay. It was quaint, clean, quiet and very cozy. It had all the amenities one could ask for. The owner's were excellent and very friendly and kind. The location was ideal just being steps to the waterfront and a block from a great grocery store, bakery, liquor store, sushi restaurant, banks, fast food restaurants and Starbucks:) It was perfectly convenient and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Nanaimo. CheersRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed at Lobelia's Guest House for 2 weeks while visiting our son. We used the house as our base for day trips to different parts of Vancouver Island. The cottage is walking distance to downtown Nanaimo (20 minutes our walking pace). There is a large grocery store within 5 minutes walking distance as well as butcher, health food store, liquor store, etc. The cottage was all we could have asked for. It was very clean and very tastefully decorated. The kitchen contained everything we needed to cook our meals. It was also handy having a washer and drier. Internet access made it easy to communicate with our families. Liberty and Mark were very hospitable. We even found a pot of roses on the kitchen table to welcome us. It felt like home not a hotel. We hope we will have the opportunity to stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Mark and Liberty relocated 14 years ago from Montreal and Toronto, after being enchanted by Departure Bay and the Island. Mark is a restorer of antiques and with Liberty, owns an antiques and collectible shop and well-known metaphysical bookstore, Lobelia's Lair (located in Nanaimo's Old City Quarter) They enjoy their evergreen treed property and gardens; along with their 11 year old dog Mojo and 3 playful cats.
