Gaeta apartment description
If you dream of sipping wine or cappuccino on the terrace of an aristocratic villa overlooking the Mediterranean, or sitting under an umbrella on your own exclusive private beach, dream no more. Mid and Low season rates make it easily affordable to spend a week or a month at Villa Accetta, a historic charmer perched on the Gulf of Gaeta. Only an hour south of the bustle of Rome, an hour or so west of the ski slopes of the Abruzzi or an hour north of Naples, the villa is the perfect home base for exploring all of south central Italy. The two-bedroom, two bathroom garden-level apartment comes with a large terrace equipped with table, six chairs and a sun-shade for your protection, all overlooking the spectacular Gulf of Gaeta. The area around Gaeta is worth visiting year round, and offers many attractions for the active visitor. Summer brings the warm weather, and water activities galore, from swimming to sailboating to sailboarding and jet-skiing. Winter brings snow to the nearby ski slopes of the Abruzzi, which are becoming more and more popular, and can be reached in just over an hour's drive. Nearly two dozen ski areas with almost 400 km of runs lie in the region, which is the highest part of the Apennines, and sometimes has more snow than the Alps. Winter also brings a classic cultural activity: Opera season at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, also just an hour away. For a full schedule check the website: www.teatrosancarlo.it, and contact us to book an apartment and a driver who will whisk you to and from the theater for a delightful evening of classic Neapolitan opera.
Spring and fall bring olive and grape harvests and trips to the olive groves and wineries in the area.
History and high technology sit comfortably together in Villa Accetta, built on Roman ruins, with updated amenities including Wi-Fi Internet access. The comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment offers a large terrace overlooking the sea, where guests can live La Dolce Vita. The lush gardens provide peaceful spots to sit in the sun, even on winter days, Panoramic views of the medieval city of Gaeta float across the bay; on a clear day you can see Vesuvius, and the islands of Capri and Ischia in the distance. The historic villa sits above Artacia Fons, the fresh-water spring mentioned by Homer as the place where Ulysses found drinkable water after months at sea. Only minutes from the train station, visitors can take easy day trips to Rome or Pompeii, Capri or Amalfi
Villa Accetta overlooks the Gulf of Gaeta, where activities such as sailing, sailboarding, diving or boating fill the waters during the summer. In the winter, guests can watch local fishermen at work in the bay below the terrace, or walk the beaches to see what the waves have delivered. The villa, built on Roman foundations that can still be seen from the terrace, is an ideal and sophisticated venue for intimate, relaxing holidays. Family groups can vacation together yet enjoy separate accommodations. Secure parking is avaiable on the property, but for those who prefer not to drive, buses pass only steps from the front gate to carry you to Gaeta, Formia, Sperlonga and beyond. The train station is only minutes by bus or taxi, and high speed trains connect to Rome or Naples and beyond.
The villa and apartment have been painstakingly renovated with the comfort of guests in mind, and updated with 21st century luxuries.
A fully-equipped kitchen allows you to prepare your own breakfasts, lunches or multi-course feasts, or you can choose from one of dozens of splendid restaurants nearby, which offer selections caught in the sea that afternoon, and served to you the same night. If ancient ruins are of interest, Gaeta and the surrounding area have been occupied for nearly three millennia, most spectacularly by the patrician Roman elite who built their villas on the sea 2000 years ago. Ample remains of the ruins can be found right below the terraces of Villa Accetta, in addition to sites along the coast from Sperlonga to Gaeta and Formia and south to Minturno and Cumae, each of which can be reached by local bus.
The apartments in Villa Accetta have been owned by the Accetta family for generations, and have been fully renovated to modern standards. The bedrooms contain a queen sized bed and two twin beds. Visitors can relax on the terrace, or explore the nearby hill towns and ancient ruins. Parking is adjacent to the property, or if you choose not to drive, we are only minutes from the train station,
A typical day could begin with coffee and pastries on the terrace, before hopping the train to visit the sights of Rome for the day, then ending the day with a glass of local wine, praised for millennia, as you watch the lights of Gaeta twinkle across the water.
Villa Accetta lies on the edge of the picturesque town of Gaeta, with its ancient Roman ruins, medieval city and castles, ancient churches and shops, bars, trattorias, restaurants, pizzerias and gelaterias. All the apartments have splendid views across the Gulf to the old city of Gaeta. The villa is the ideal place to spend a serene, peaceful holiday, within day-trip distance of Rome or Naples, but with none of the noise and chaos of the cities.

From Finland with love
As we say in Finland, Kiitos Kiki. (Means Grazie) We had a wonderful time in Villa Accetta. This was a beautiful house to live in, and our own beach was just great. Our week in Villa Accetta was so amazing -- the whole of Gaeta was beautiful. The beach was a very happy thing. We loved it. The bathrooms were pretty and the kitchen was very great and easy to cook in.

The Perfect Holiday
I had the perfect holiday in Villa Accetta. Set within some of the most beautiful scenery, the villa is both comfortable and calming. The apartment was clean, well kept and fitted with all the conveniences you will need. It has easy access by bus to the wonderful town of Gaeta, as well as Formia and the remarkable Sperlonga. Lovers of ancient history will be spoiled for choice by the number of sites worth visiting. The apartment was equipped with a kitchen, but with so many great restaurants a stone's throw away, it got little use. Thank you for everything, Kiki. Villa Accetta is a jewel on the Gulf of Gaeta
Villa Accetta felt like home after a long day of sight-seeing. The apartment was very clean and comfy and the grounds were gorgeous. You can get to the heart of Gaeta or Formia (where the train station is) in minutes on the bus, so there's no need for a car. See my blog post for additional details about Villa Accetta, Gaeta, and neighboring towns: http://margaretreyesdempsey.wordpress.com/2011/08/17/travel-gaeta-italy-in-october/ Thank you, Kiki, Ugo, and Luca for your hospitality. I will definitely be back to visit someday. Recommended for: Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Relaxing on a terrace with a view
Relaxing on a terrace with a view
Our stay at Villa Accetta let us savor the glorious opportunity of sitting on a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea while we sipped excellent (and incredibly inexpensive) local wine and indulged in delicious local cheeses and olives and bread. When we could tear ourselves away from the view and the conversation, we hopped a train to Rome for a day spent sightseeing, and a couple of days later a train to Pompeii. Each trip began with cappuccino on the terrace in the morning and ended with a glass of wine on the terrace in the evening. No better way to see Italy. We brought a group of writers with us, all of whom were inspired and invigorated by the rich and ancient history, the wonderful meals and the beauty of the area. Kiki made our stay a joy from beginning to end, starting with a welcome spread of goodies for hungry travelers, to suggestions on restaurants and sights. It will be remembered always. Thank you Kiki.

About: My family has owned this villa for generations, and a few years ago we split it into apartments to share with visitors. I enjoy sharing the history of the villa and the area with our guests, and am pleased to meet people from around the world. Because we have lived in Gaeta for generations, we have connections with restaurant owners, taxi drivers and others who can help to make your stay very enjoyable.
