Imagine what it's like to stay at your own sporting ranch property with private fishing and bird hunting. Surrounded by 3 mountain ranges, this 1850 sq ft cabin was handcrafted of reclaimed logs in 2007 on a 250 acre ranch on the Lower Big Hole River. Comfortably outfitted in a sophisticated western style with a great room offering expansive views of the Ruby, Tobacco Root and Highland Mountains, a soaring stone fireplace, bar and full kitchen equipped with Viking range and stainless appliances. The master BR has an attached bathroom with a claw foot tub. A guest BR has queen bunk beds, detached full bath with slate shower; mud room with washer and dryer. A loft includes sleeper sofa and flat screen TV. Porch has rod racks, wader pegs and a pub style table and chairs. A fire pit with stone benches and full size picnic table are located near the stocked trout pond, 60 ft from the cabin. This cabin is also equipped with a land line (telephone), satellite TV and wireless internet.
Sporting Opportunities: This property is the perfect home base for a summer fly fishing vacation or an Autumn Cast and Blast. Top quality private fishing and bird hunting opportunities right on the property are the perfect complement to the chance to fish the Big Hole, Jefferson, Beaverhead, Ruby, and the Madison all within an hour's drive. The Missouri, Rock Creek and numerous high alpine lakes in the surrounding mountain ranges are all easy day trips.
In addition to .75 mile frontage on the Big Hole River, the property features over a mile on two spring influenced creeks(Owsley and Schoolhouse Sloughs), a stocked(rainbows) pond at the cabin site, two additional shallow ponds and several wetland areas and seasonal seeps. The ranch has a private game bird preserve license which allows for the stocking of upland birds from Sept 1-Mar 31st, and the live water serves as a magnet for resident and migratory waterfowl, including geese, mallards, and wood ducks.
The surrounding area and activities: The area abounds with outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, rock hounding, horseback riding, or make a visit the surrounding National Parks and Forests in the area. Numerous Hot Springs ranging from rustic to spa-like are found nearby. The history of the area, including ghost towns from the Gold Rush era and the route that Lewis and Clark traveled all make for interesting footnotes to the beautiful scenery. Landscape and nature photography opportunities are everywhere. The local towns are great places to visit and shop and there are numerous farmer's markets and rodeos during the summer months.
Or, just relax on the property......go for a hike, pick some morels or wildflowers and keep an eye out for the moose, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, white tails, and other assorted critters. Curl up with a book on a big leather couch and take a late afternoon nap. And be sure to have a roaring fire in the fire pit and roast some marshmallows after dinner....
Planning your trip: A caretaker is available to help plan for an upcoming stay, welcome guests and show them around the cabin and the property, arrange with licensed outfitters for guiding services on or off property, and help with your needs during your stay. A concierge service is available at an additional cost, which includes shopping for groceries, equipment and supplies and having them waiting for you at the cabin upon your arrival. We can arrange for the rental of fishing or hunting equipment during your stay or help arrange the shipment of your own equipment prior to and following your visit.
