We stayed t the Artist's House when in Frederick. I was centrally located to Gettysburg and Washington DC. It was walking distance to several restaurants and shopping. The house was very clean. Nancy was there to meet us and answer questions. A great place to stay. I would highly recommend it to friends.

We loved our stay. There is plenty of room. Comfortable stay. We would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Frederick/Baltimore, Washington DC area. Frederick is only one hour from both Baltimore and DC and 30 minutes from Harper's Ferry. If you stay in the Frederick area there is plenty to see and do there as well.

Easy wallk to historical downtown and restaurants. The home is filled with local artists works and a book to share their stories which makeshift place fun to stay at. Plenty of room for 4 adults. Really appreciated the two full baths, plus 1/2 bath on main floor. Laundry made it easy to pack light. Nice front porch to sit out on. Kitchen was well equipped and really appreciated the spices and oil available for cooking. Parking in the back was good - keeping car out of street traffic.

                    Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway.

Owner response: I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay! Thank you.

We rented The Artist's House Friday through Sunday for my sister's Bachelorette party. We arrived late Friday night, 4 of us. It really was a beautiful little house, elegantly decorated, with natural wood floors and staircase, a full kitchen, dining room and living room, 3 bedrooms upstairs and 3 bathrooms. It was great being there all together! On Friday night, we even used the TV and cable to do "on demand" keraoke!! (Don't tell anyone hehehe). The proprietor lady, Nancy, was so awesome, she'd decorated the house for a bachelorette party, with little "bride and groom" baseball caps in the bathroom, Mickey & Minnie wedding hats in the dining room, and little bride & groom bears in the kitchen. On Saturday, another friend arrived, so we had 5. Two slept in the King bed, 2 in the Queen bed, and 1 in the twin bed. Plenty of space! And since there were 2 full baths, showering was not an issue with the number of people. On Saturday, we walked into town twice - for lunch and dinner/partying. It was a pleasant walk, in spite of the cold, and only about 8 minutes from town. Staying at the Artist's House really made the weekend special! I highly recommend it!

Had a great time in the Artist House over New Year's weekend with another couple! Once there, we only used our car once. Great restaurants and shops all within walking distance. House was very comfortable and photos on website represent an accurate depiction of the house. Sleep number beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were very nice. The house had a number of practical amenities including detergents, soap, plenty of dishes and silverware, that were much appreciated. I know that sounds funny, but we have been to a number of houses that haven't included most of the basics, requiring a number of additional trips to the store. The house has some interesting artwork and pottery on display and available for purchase. The only slight downsides (and they were slight) were the rather noisy radiators (it is an older home) and the lower water pressure in the showers. However, I would stay again in a heartbeat. We had a blast!

We stayed at the artist's house this past December. We were in town and met up with our 24 year old daughter from out East and reconnected at this property. We were on the fly most of the weekend but when we came to "home base" the Christmas tree was lit in the corner greeting us. We went out for breakfast with the recemmendation we found in the guest book ... but obviously they aren't as ambitious as Michiganders !! They didn't open until 9 am. We also attended the Volt for our daughters birthday - special place for a special girl. Bring a fat wallet. LOVED our escape together to reconnect with family.

Owner response: Sara, Should you Michiganers decide to vacation again in Frederick, we have dozens of other lovely restaurants (besides Volt) that won't break your pocketbook! I hope to see you all again - family time is precious and should always be celebrated! Nancy

I live in London and my parents in California and we have started meeting up once a year "halfway" somewhere on the east coast of the USA. This year we met in DC, visited Fredericksburg, Williamsburg, and Charlottesville in VA and stayed in the artist's cottage for a full week in Frederick. It was perfect accommodation for the three of us to spend time together - with space to also be apart if we wanted it! The bedrooms were all very comfortable and having two full bathrooms and a downstairs powder room was great. The house has been refurbished to a high standard and has all the amenities you would need. We enjoyed the autumn sunshine (and rain) in the lovely backyard and the front porch. Nancy and her husband were there on our arrival to show us around and give us tips on the area. This personal touch was very much appreciated and made us feel welcome after a long drive that day. The location is at the south end of the historic district and still undergoing some gentrification but it seemed safe and friendly. I found it very convenient to the town and its array of dining options and enjoyed running through the town streets and Baker Park each morning. It is also very convenient for visiting Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, Antietum, and the Virginia wine country. We were never short of things to do. All in all, we very much enjoyed our experience and would recommend the Artist's House to other visitors.

Owner response: Thank you, Adventurous Family. You were delightful (and very neat!) guests who truly took advantage of the many and varied things to do in our special part of the world. I hope you have many, many more wonderful family adventures in all kinds of charming places. Of course, you can always return to The Artist's House and continue to explore more of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and DC, using Frederick again as a home base. :--)

Very charming, clean, comfortable home. Many amenities make for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The home and neighborhood were quiet, although the street in front is busy. Owners were very helpful. The Frederick downtown area is within 2 blocks and has numerous nice restaurants, shops, museums, etc. Parking in the back for 2 cars is very convenient, but we often just walked to the Downtown area. The backyard patio and front porch are nice places to sit for breakfast or reading. The price saved my family lots of money, rather than staying in a hotel. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a vacation rental home, short or long stay.

My husband and I lived in the historic district of Frederick for years until we moved to Denver and we have been waiting for someone to open up a rental vacation property there. At last our wait is over! The home is charming and well kept with plenty of room for our friends and families to come visit us. Off street parking for 2 cars is a real plus in the historic district although you don't really need a car as you can walk everywhere which is great. Thanks so much for a truly great stay and we will be back!

Owner response: We would love to host you again, Laura. And later this fall, we will have a third downtown Frederick property available to rent. Lots of options to entertain your old friends when you come back to Frederick to visit.

We 3 ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) just spent a relaxed weekend here at the Artist's House. I think we are the first guests to stay here, and everything was new and immaculate. The kitchen was big enough for the 3 of us to have a leisurely breakfast, which was the extent of our cooking. And the living room couch and chairs were so comfortable we had a hard time leaving the room. The large TV was fantastic, with a crystal clear picture. We enjoyed watching a few old movies on the DVD player. We had several great meals in Frederick, did some shopping and went to a car show downtown, and even went to a Roller Derby in Hagerstown. We all liked the fact that we each had our own private bedroom with those fancy beds that we could adjust from soft to firm with the remote controls (a bit of a challenge at first for us 70 and 80-something old-timers, but we figured it out after a while). We also were surprised that, given we were in a downtown area over the weekend, we heard no noise during the night and all slept soundly. We sat on the front porch each day and watched the locals walk and drive up and down the street. Great conversation topics ensued. There was so much we didn't have time to see in Frederick that we all decided that we'll have to come back again sometime soon. Thank you very much for sharing your comfortable home with us. P.S. All the art was great, too. When we weren't sitting around, we were staring at the walls. Such a variety of talent you have here in Frederick!

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2010

About the owner: I am an enthusiastic traveler and have been booking my extended family’s vacations online for many years. Before each trip, I spend countless hours researching unique and comfortable hideaways for us to inhabit – in part because I am an online travel junkie, but mostly because I believe that the quality of the accommodations is a huge contributor to the success of any vacation. It's so much easier exploring new worlds when one's family has a comfortable place to sleep, bathe, decompress, and plan the next day's adventures. And even more than I love exploring other parts of the planet, I love introducing and sharing Frederick (my part of the planet since 1974) with others. I knew from day one that Frederick County had a very special charm. To me, it has only gotten more charming (and considerably more diverse) in the past 39 years. Presently, Frederick has no downtown hotel and just two popular downtown B&B’s. I was surprised to discover that there is a dearth of short-term furnished properties or vacation homes available to rent in the downtown area – a huge omission, from my perspective, because Frederick City and Frederick County are wonderful places for extended visits. At a crossroads in my life, I decided that something needed to be done about this. Thus the birth of Frederick Vacation Rentals (d.b.a. FrederickVacationRentalsdotcom)

Stay here and... - Walk downtown for coffee and bagels in the morning. - Sit in a Market Street sidewalk cafe (Cacique, Isabella's) and people watch. - In cold weather, sit INSIDE at a window seat table (Tasting Room, Olives, Firestones) and people watch. - Enjoy the downtown festivities and late night shopping on Frederick's First Saturdays (every month of the year!) - Explore dozens of wonderful restaurants and hundreds of interesting shops. - See a performance in Frederick's Theatre District (yes, we DO have one!) - Visit the brand new Frederick Visitor's Center on East Street, see the 13 minute movie and find out how many fantastic things there are to do in Frederick City and County! - Visit the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on Patrick Street. - Take a leisurely walk or bike ride in Frederick's city-long linear park, Baker Park. - Take the Frederick Wine Tour or visit one of our three microbreweries. - Take a Ghost Tour on a dark and stormy night (available every weekend from spring-fall). - Follow the Visitor's Center Treasure map through Frederick's historic downtown. - Look up the many special events going on in town on the City's Office of Special Events Website: the Festival of the Arts, Fourth of July, the In the Street Festival, Holidays events all December. - Attend the Great Frederick Fair in September and Frederick's two Oktoberfests in - you guessed it - October! - Tour the Delaplaine Art Museum and Frederick's many ecclectic art galleries. - Hear some live music at the Frederick Coffee House, Cafe Nola, Brewer's Alley, the Bentz Street Sports Bar, Cafe 611, to name just a few of many venues. - Check out the Children's Museum at Rose Hill Manor, the Taney House, the Frederick Historical Society, the Hessian Barracks. - Read the Frederick Magazine and the Frederick Newspost - you just won't BELIEVE how neat this area is - and you'll want to come back AGAIN and AGAIN!
