Red's lodge is a great affordable place for a family gathering. With clean, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, great eating areas, a brand new grill and good kitchen. It's about 7 miles from town and surrounded by state forest, so very quiet and private. To be honest, we did have a problem with mice during our stay. I guess it's to be expected given the setting and the cooler end of summer nights enticing them to move into warmer places. We used peanut butter and caught 3 in traps we picked up in town our second night. I would caution folks to watch the generator use, we stayed up late playing games and watching movies and paid an extra $120 for the 12 extra hours of generator use. Guests are asked to use no more than 6 hours of generated electrical power each day. Even with these issues, I would recommend Red's lodge for anyone looking for a place to gather a large family, the kids had a great time on the trampoline and with the outside yard games. We drove about 12 miles and spent days on the lake and returned at night, grilled and enjoyed campfires and a wonderful meteor shower, the stars were amazing!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our whole family stayed here for a weekend when we were planning a surprise party for family about 20 miles away. It was wonderful. There was lots of room for everyone, and activities for the kids such as the trampoline, badminton, tire swing, and games. It was a great location for us to spend some quality family time together, which we hadn't done for quite some time. We made s'mores and told stories around the fire and had a great time. If you are looking for a peaceful place to get away from it all, I would highly recommend Red's Cedar Lodge.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

Annual group trip to the UP. This was our first stay at Red's and we are definitely coming back. Very clean, comfortable, plenty of space and geat dealings with the owner. Quiet solitude only a couple miles off the highway on good roads but alone at the end of the road. If you're coming to the UP to get away, like us, then Red's should be your destination.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
