From Guestbook: Jan-Mar 2013--Coldest winter in MN in over 5 years! I questioned my sanity for moving here; but this little house made it easy. Perfect setup for my transition from Indiana to Minnesota. I brought clothes and that was about it! Everything works - it was simply a great place to stay. My heartfelt thanks go to Doug & Ann for allowing me the privilege of staying in the Hastings Cottage. Please take care of my first MN home!

Five nights of cozy clean comfort at Christmas time! We enjoyed all the amenities - stereo/radio, television, DVDs, Netflix, fully equipped kitchen (including dishwasher), and laundry facilities. Outside we enjoyed a winter wonderland, with fresh snow but promptly cleared sidewalks for neighborhood walks. The cottage has great bedrooms upstairs and downstairs and an electric fire/heater in the living room. Stay here and you'll find winter warmth and coziness throughout. We look forward to coming back to enjoy spring, summer, and fall too!

From Guestbook: We had such a great time staying here! We picked this house because we live in St. Paul but were getting married just down the way at Schaar's Bluff [Spring Lake Park Reserve]. Not only was the house a fun, comfortable, place to stay for our wedding weekend; but it also came with wonderful owners. Doug was so great to work with; even though we changed our reservation at least twice, he was always kind and professional. The house is adorable. The back yard is amazing and huge. We had a such a great time here and will always remember it fondly when we look back on our special day. Thank you so much!

From Guestbook: We had a lovely time here and the home is so cozy! We live up in the Colorado mountains, so having a back yard like this for a few days was amazing for both the kids and adults. (Lush green grass.) Thanks for thinking of everything we needed and we hope to return again!

We stayed here for a month recently and were extremely pleased with the home in general. The only reason we did not rate excellent is because there was no "cable". They had local stations with an antenna, but it would often pixelate. They had netflix streaming which worked fine for us, but we would have preferred cable. The house itself is wonderful - very comfortable (bed downstairs especially, but a bit high to get into). We felt at home right away. Nicely decorated and a really nice yard. We also loved the location - nice neighborhood - had some traffic, both vehicle and foot, but quiet none the less. We also loved Hastings. Such a nice town and so many parks and restaurants. The owner, Doug, was very nice to deal with and very accomodating. We were visiting family in Apple Valley, about a half hour away and the drive was good - so all in all we are looking forward to spending time there again.

Owner response: Thanks. Our goal is to provide an outstanding rental value. Price matters to our guests. And in this case, we delivered an excellent value in a month's stay for two, as well as about a week's stay for two more (plus accommodations for non-staying guests). True, no cable TV; and all renters know this up front. We think it's more cost than benefit. The major networks and other stations work very well if you want commercial TV, all in HD; otherwise, enjoy commercial-free Netflix programs and the HUGE selection of DVDs. Better yet, enjoy the impressive stereo; connect your own music and play in multiple or selected rooms! Outstanding value means we make special efforts for our guests. Plus, the rental comes standard with the large plush king bed and the nice & active neighborhood, as praised in the review. For a short or extended stay, we provide outstanding value! Contact us to learn more. Cable? No other guests have missed it and we invest the money saved on other amenities

This house is well maintained, scrupulously clean and very pleasant. We spent a weekend here and the weather was miserable, but the house was very nice. I would certainly come again.

Owner response: Tim & Barb - You are always great guests and you know you had fun boating in the cool air and light rain! We docked for dinner in Prescott at Muddy Waters -- great food, great friends, and great rivers as always.

A wonderful house to stay in while visiting Hastings! If you like a nice clean and comfortable place to stay don't overlook this little charmer. It is off the beaten path, has all the amenities that you would expect from a much more expensive place to stay but is close to everything Hastings has to offer. The owners are fantistic and work hard to make your stay pleasurable.

Cozy and just right! We had a multigenerational "gals" long weekend and this little cottage suited us to a tee! Homey and cute, not luxurious and overstated which put everyone at ease right away. The bedroom on the main level was perfect for those who find stairs difficult and the three beds upstairs gave us all the room we needed. The neighborhood was quiet and the landlords very sweet and accomodating. Washer and dryer were handy which enabled us all to head home with suitcases full of clean clothes. We didn't get much chance to "see" Hastings...have to save that for next time!!
