Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1984
I retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2009. I worked as an Air Traffic Controller in seven different FAA facilities, including my home town of Providence, Rhode Island. I love pets, especially dogs, with cats being a close second. It's hard for me to pass by someone walking their dog in my neighborhood without stopping to pet them or scratch their ears (the dog - not the owner). One of my daughters has a cat, who I love to have lay on my lap, and purr while I'm brushing him.
We are the original owners of this house at Wintergreen and have been enjoying the mountain since 1984. It may not be as fancy as some of the houses on the mountain, but the kids, grandchildren, and our pets always enjoy "coming home".
Come on up and share the good times!

Perfect Weekend Hideaway
Guest: Weekend Runaways

We were greeted by the very nice owner upon arrival. The home was better than we imagined. We were able to relax, cook and enjoyed spending time with our adult children. Our Greyhounds were comfortable and liked watching the squirrel and deer from the deck. The "Tough Mudder" mud run was taking place up the mountain so Sunday we took off to Crabtree Falls which is a must see while visiting the area. There is certainly a special place in our hearts for this lovely home and we hope it is available to us in the future. The photos are very accurate. The kitchen is perfect and everyone took turns cooking a meal.

Escape the heat

We wanted a place to escape the brutal heat and we found it! We had a great time at Wintergreen and at the cabin. We ate every meal on the back deck and it was wonderful. Temps in the valley were upper 90"s but at the cabin it was upper 70's with no humidity! What a treat. Our dog who has been lethargic all summer wanted to play all the time. The cabin was clean, comfortable and cozy. We will be back.

My family and I spent the 4th of July extended weekend at this property. It was as stated-very comfortable. We were all looking forward to a relaxing weekend and this was just the spot. Lots of space, comfy furnishings, great scenery, close to local brew pubs. It was nice to not have to worry about messing something up. You can tell this home has been lived in and enjoyed. It was like being at home but in a different state. Thank you for your hospitality.

HORRIBLE STAY!!! DISGUSTING!!!
Guest: UNCSki
(Durham NC)
Date of Stay: 02/24/11
Review Submitted: 03/02/11
This rental was absolutely disgusting!! Unsafe baseboard heaters, no clothing storage, gross metal hangers in the closet, the upstairs fireplace makes a horrific sound when turned on. Beds were not made when we arrived, and there were cobwebs throughout the entire house! Mold was all over the shower curtains, the AC unit in the kitchen was dusty and rusted beyond belief. The "kitchen utensils" provided were DISGUSTING (one still had the wine cork in it) and the dish cleaning tools were old and smelled foul! Upon our departure (which was supposed to be mid afternoon), the property owner showed up 2 hours early and all but rushed us out of the house! We were appalled and would NEVER recommend anyone staying here, no matter how cheap it may seem!
Owner response:An apology letter was immediately sent to this guest, with comments on all concerns, and notification that they would all be corrected by the time the next guest arrived. The baseboard heaters are not unsafe, they were installed by a licensed electrician and are pictured in five of the sixteen photos on my site. There is a closet in each bedroom, with ample storeage for most people. I have never in 27 years had a complaint on lack of storeage space. All beds were made upon arrival and always are. I leave the LINENS in a packet for each bedroom, and the guests do have to have to put the linens on themselves. I do this because some guests bring their own linens. If there was mold on the shower curtains, it must have been spots, and I did not see them. This has been corrected. A cork on the wine opener - I missed it - sorry (see photo of utensils). The forks, knives and spoons are all new. Fresh dish towels and dishcloths are provided with every rental. A used sponge was accidentally left - it has been thrown away. My normal check out time is noon. I granted an extension to this guest till 2PM. I showed up at noon and started raking leaves and removing trash. I never asked the guest to leave and did not rush anyone. I told them I had someone checking in at 3PM and would like to start my cleaning inside when they were ready. The electric fireplace is being removed - flame feature is OK; the heating motor made the noise. The most legitimate complaint is the dust. Upon each new rental, the floors are all vacuumed, bathrooms cleaned and sanitized, kitchen cleaned and a good overall cleaning is given. I will in the future pay more attention to the dusting. If the guest had called me upon arrival, I would have taken care of all of her concerns. In my response to them, I did thank them for alerting me, because if no one tells me about their dissatisfaction, I will not know. Look at the pictures - what you see is what you get. We have always been proud of our rental, and do our best to make it comfortable. All of the issues, except the fireplace and baseboard heaters, were with housecleaning and will be corrected. If the guest had called me upon arrival, I would have sent someone over right away, or given them the option to obtain other lodging and receive a full refund from me. I heard nothing from them during their entire three night stay. I urge you to keep these things in mind when you consider renting from us.

Great Outdoor Deck and fun for families with kids

We stayed at Spring and Summer in the mountains over July 4th weekend and had a wonderful time here. We lived on the outdoor deck and their was plenty of room for our family and friends who came over to play cards with us. The internet is high speed and we loved the game table where we played pool, air hockey, and ping pong too. Very comfortable. Our dog felt quite at home too, she preferred the outdoor deck as well. Great price and very comfortable!! Very close to the Mountain Inn and all the activities. Thanks! Roslyn Foreman
