- The Bitterroot River is nationally famous for its tremendous fishing. Wilderness areas and national forest lands surround the neighborhood. The area is home to majestic peaks, crystal clear streams and abundant wildlife. From rugged to well groomed, hiking, biking, and riding possibilities abound. About 20 miles to the south is Lost Trail Ski area, which is open Thurs-Sun during the ski season. Lost Trail offers lifts and a pleasant skiing opportunity without the crowds. Chief Joseph pass has an extensive network of groomed cross-country trails and is right next to Lost Trail. You can also have a swim in the warm pool at Lost Trail Hot Springs, which is right on the way. But with the river just a stone's throw away from your back door, you may be tempted to spend all of your time right there. We think you'll agree that our river cottage is an accommodation that is the destination. So give us a call, pack your bags and come enjoy all that western Montana has to offer.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
My name is Amy Sage. I established the first vacation rental home in the Bitterroot Valley with the SweetSage Guest House in 1999. As a stay-at-home mother of three children ages 6-15, I have gradually expanded my vacation rental business to manage other nearby properties while still allowing myself to be home for my family. I am dedicated to providing my guests with the best the Bitterroot has to offer with clean, quiet, private surroundings and all the comforts of home. I am pleased to bring the Riverside Cottage to my vacation rental offerings.
Why the Owner Chose Conner
We love the recreational opportunities the Bitterroot Valley has to offer. This quaint little cottage is right on the banks of the Bitterroot River and is close to Lost Trail Ski area, Painted Rocks Res. and Como Lake.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We fish and float the river right in front of the cottage. Cook out on the grill. Sleep under the stars (yes, there is a skylight over the bed!), and its so refreshing.

My husband and I went to the cabin in June of 2010 and had a blast. If you are looking for a quiet spot away from the world this is the place to go. It is close enough to other small towns (10-30) miles to find other attractions. We also went to Missoula for the day and had a blast looking at more beautiful spots in Montana. the cabin sits right on the river and we really enjoyed the serenity of it all. My husband really enjoyed fishing out the back door, and I loved the shade to sit and watch him and read. Other fishing spots are really close and we enjoyed them also. The little store there in Conner had just about anything you might need and great sandwhichwes. The cabin itself was great, bring your dvd's and enjoy the quiet of No regualr TV. For an entire week we had No idea what was going on in the world unless we wanted to listen to the radio. Wonderfull! We did have cell reception in case we needed to be contacted. The caretakers were great people to work with. Do yourself a favor and go to this cabin and relax.

We met friends from Arizona at the River Cottage. What a great spot for a relaxing vacation. The house is more than comfortable for four adults. Very clean and bright and cheery. We spent most of our time relaxing in the yard under the gorgeous willow tree watching the river flow by. Did a little fishing and a lot of deer watching. Every evening there were between 5 -10 deer in the field across the road. By mid week we had one coming into the yard in the afternoon to eat from the apple trees. We had a great balance of sightseeing (very convienient to the cottage location) and just enjoying staying put. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area. Can't wait to get back!!!

A Lovely Getaway

Our family enjoyed a four day stay at this delightful cottage. Our children, ages 4 and 6 at the time, learned to fish on the river right outside the back door (that also locks securely!) and we enjoyed walking through "the jungle" up and down the river several times a day. The convenient gas/cafe/grocery and wine store just down the road was also a favorite destination-- ice cream treats for the kids, a selection of fine wine for Momma, local and tasty beers for Dad! The property is extremely well-maintained, with some thoughtful and unexpected touches (beautiful carved back door, bright solar tube in bathroom, well-stocked kitchen, skylight in the bedroom, etc.) While the inside is lovely and spacious, it was hard to leave the picnic table and chairs under the huge shady tree and the sights and sounds of the babbling river! Our family enjoyed the solitude and privacy of the property, while finding it very convenient to travel to Darby and Hamilton and all of the area attractions. My husband and I could also envision this being a very romantic getaway as well (someday!). We give this rental property the highest rating possible.

My girl brought me to Montana, my first time, in early June 2008. The updates in the cabin show outstanding craftmanship & the location is perfect. The river is 25 ft. from the back door and was just "rushing"! The store is a very short walk up the drive & exploring the Bitterroot Valley was just wonderful. We've visited the area since & have stayed at other nice places but we agree that this place was perfect & affordable, we'll be back!

My stay at the Riveside Cottage was oh so mellow. Just a step outside the back door puts you onto a patio area where I sat with my morning coffee, listening to the flowing river. The natural setting includes beautiful trees and bushes along the riverside. The cottage itself is bright and cheery with comfortable rustic style furniture. A short walk to the little Conner store allows you to pick up any forgotten items without having to get into your car. I recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet natural get-away on the shore of the Bitterroot River.

This is a quiet, serene escape from a hectic world. Resturants and the best soup in Montana available nearby. This is a mountain valley, not a bit "resort like", more homelike. A "getaway place" . Clean, restful, but lots to do if you like to hike, fish, canoe and visit Lake Como,National Forest nearby and cute towns, shopping in the Valley, pretty close. Fully equipped kitchen, and a skylight above the bed to view the stars. DVD player, watched movies and enjoyed viewing deer in the evening.

Our family had a reunion in the Bitterroot area....and we all always ended up each day at the Riverside Cottage..relaxing by the side of the beautiful Bitterroot River..young & old alike found the river fascinating...just sitting and listening to the river rush by is a treat! The location is quiet and private, but close to many hiking trails (which our youngest "reuners" loved)..also within a mile is a National Forest. Did I mention the birds that we sighted on the river? We found the cottage comfortable and well equipped...we didn't have time for the tv or DVD player, although they were both available...too much to do outdoors ....and then that comfortable bed! We'll be back!

We rented the Riverside Cottage for one week during our honeymoon in the summer. The cottege was very nice, quiet, and private. The town was very quaint but not too far from some bigger towns. The cottage is next to a very nice river, but the water is very cold, there were lots of bugs in the evening, and the river does not have very good access. There is no TV or DVD player in the cottage There are lots of very nice hikes near by.
