This architecturally unique modern three story home is designed to maximize its location atop a dune above the clean, white sand private beaches on Lake Michigan. 4,000 sq. ft. provides ample room for everyone to get together as well as space for privacy. Take the path from the house past the flowing stream and ponds to the beach, directly across the street. You are less than a minute from the sand.
The first floor has a private suite with a queen bedroom, private bath, kitchenette, and your own sitting room with a convertible full size bed. It's ideal for a nanny, in-laws or a family with a young child or two. And there's a babbling brook outside the bedroom window. This suite is designed to accommodate people with disabilities as well. The adjacent Beach Room offers a full size convertible sofa, a large TV with VCR/DVD, and its own private bath.
The second floor has three bedrooms, including a master suite with king bed, private bath, and the connected office/sitting room is ideal for a crib or children on the convertible sofa. The other two bedrooms on this floor have a queen bed or two twin beds (combinable for an additional king), and share a bathroom.
The third floor, which is also accessible by elevator from the first floor, is an expansive wood floored Great Room/kitchen/dining room covering 1330 square feet. The north wall, overlooking Lake Michigan is wrap-around glass, and opens onto the 250 sq ft projecting deck, with its amazing views of sunsets over the lake. Use the telescope to explore Chicago, passing ships and sailboats, or the heavens in the clear, star-lit nights. The fully equipped kitchen has top-grade appliances and all the amenities. The expanding Italian glass dining table will seat 10. There is a concealed cable TV with DVD/VCR/CD, a stereo system and a Rais woodburning stove for cool evenings.

Our house easily sleeps 12 without using the third floor, with no more than two to a room, and four of the six sleeping areas offer lake views! No bunk beds. Sunlight pours through all 3 levels from skylights in the central light well, while cooling lake breezes flow through. Top grade furnishings offer comfort and grace, including quality Sealy mattress sets.
Surrounded by the Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore, Ogden Dunes is a secure, limited access community ideally situated for easy day trips to the museums, concerts and sights of Chicago. A 20 minute stroll down the beach from the house brings you to the Indiana Dunes National Park, with 4 more miles of open beaches and wild dunes to explore.
It's in the area known as Dunes Country, offering charter boat fishing and lake excursions, boat rentals, swimming, canoing, golf, antiquing, hiking, biking, local theater, birding, fine restaurants, casinos, Lighthouse Place Outlet Mall, a water park, horseback riding, ranger-led ecological, botanical and historic programs in both the State and National parks, all within a 15 - 20 minute drive. |
