Salida chateau / country house description
Whoa up now, you don't have to be looking for a Horse Motel for the Outpost to be just the right fit for your vacation stay.
We're situated on the ten acre, late 1800s, Historic Vandaveer Homestead located on a quiet, tree-lined, country road that winds along the Arkansas River and is just minutes from Downtown. Our location can't be beat with Arkansas River access just up the County Rd. and miles of improved hiking/biking/riding trails just down the County Rd.
The time-worn farm equipment, old outbuildings and solid rock barn tell the story of the early homesteaders who first settled in this high mountain valley. You'll take in spectacular 360 mountain views in the spacious yard area surrounding the Outpost. The tire swing hanging under the giant shade tree is fun for all while supper is on the BBQ. Complete your evening roasting marshmallows over the fire pit under our big, western, star- filled sky. Taking a morning or evening stroll on the quiet country road can't be beat when you want to really unwind and relax.
The Outpost offers an open kitchen, living and dining area- a homey gathering spot for family and friends. Homestead antiques and rustic furnishings provide a casual, relaxing getaway. Our beds are comfortable and you'll always find the place super clean.
If you are bringing your horses along, they are assured a safe stay in the rock barn at the Horse Motel. It offers pipe and wood rail paddocks and fresh Rocky Mountain well water. Larger exercise areas, bedding and grass hay are available upon request.
There is easy access and plenty of parking at the Outpost for trailers etc. The miles of improved riding trails on Public Lands with beautiful mountain views can be accessed just 3/4 mile down the County Rd.

About the owner: Hi, We're Billy & Brenda Warren, we moved into this beautiful mountain valley over 25 years ago. We own & operate Cut No Slak Construction, a custom building & design firm, established in 1975. It continues to be our pleasure working and building friendships with our many clients. We became good friends with the Vandaveers (owners of the Homestead for over a half century) after first moving to the area. We enjoyed helping them out with ranching and farming on the surrounding property and BLM lease. While building our first personal residence, our family lived in the Outpost and our daughter kept her 4-H steers and horse at the rock barn. In 2007 we purchased the Homestead and 10 acres when the Vandaveers sold off the larger surrounding acreage. We enjoy all the activities of this mountain area. Horse back riding, helping the area ranchers and spending time with our family are among our favorites.
