Such a terrific cabin! Whether you prefer to sit on the back porch and enjoy the view or connect to the wi-fi, this is the place. We will definitely be back - for a longer stay next time.

The Ponderosa is a lovely spot for a getaway...we spent a month there and loved the simplicity of the house, and being surrounded by trees...was just a tad disappointed there were no views, but in winter with the leaves gone it should be awesome. Robert and Michele are perfect hosts...no need to bring anything but your clothes....it is well appointed! It should be awesome in a week or two with the leaves changing...the road leading to the house is a dirt and gravel road, so drive carefully. Would definitely rent here again....would be warm and cozy in front of the wood burning stove in the winter!

We had a great time at the Ponderosa cabin. Everything was clean & worked properly and the cabin had pretty much everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable & we loved listening to the crickets at night. Our dog loved the house & property & we were able to meet most of the neighbors on our walks around the road. We were able to do lots of hiking in several state parks in the area & Asheville was a great city to spend the day in. We ended up losing power for a few hours one day but Robert eased our minds when he said that it usually doesn't take long for it to come back on. He was right...by the time we headed back to the cabin after grabbing dinner, all the lights were back on. On thing to note for those that rely heavily on their cell phones...there is very limited to no cell phone service but the cabin does had a land line plus there is internet access. We emailed those we needed to contact & made phone calls when we headed down the mountain. It's a very peaceful area & we look forward to coming back to the Ponderosa again sometime soon!

Owner response: Thank You for the nice review,we love happy people. I know when you are at the Ponderosa it seems like you are so relaxed that your problems at home don,t seem so bad. I think it is called relaxation...........

Absolutely Awesome! I travel quite a bit on business and with life being short I always try to find a property off the beaten path void of slamming doors and noisy neighbors. THIS IS is a diamond in the rough, a treasure if you will! At first sight I was transported back to a time where kicking off your shoes, putting your feet up and relaxing was not only a pleasure but a state of mind and place to behold. From the charm and nostalgia of the front porch swing and authentic true log cabin construction to the Flat Screen TV, I able stay in a location as clean, and comfortable as my own home. It was so comfortable yet exciting, that for the first time in a decade I was confident enough to entertain a few of my closest clients (and now a new one!) over for cocktails, grilled steaks and shrimp, several very spirited games of billiards in the downstairs party room and a bonfire in the back to boot! I do not believe that this could have gone any better unless I had gained several new business accounts and reserved the next week for my family to enjoy. I don't know about anyone else, but the first thing I do when staying outside of my home is to settle into the bedroom for a few minutes to determine if I'll be sleeping on the bed or just putting my luggage on it. I assure you my luggage went in the closet here. Between the comfort of the bed and the cool (almost cold) mountain breeze flowing through windows I knew I would have to bring my family back to experience the Ponderosa. Now make no mistake, this isn't a Hilton. This is a true rough sewn log cabin that has been tastefully decorated with items of it's age but with the amenities of convenience and comfort, and did I mention a Flat Screen TV? All of this was as perfect as I could have asked for however a couple of days into the stay I ran some laundry and upon going to retrieve my clothing out of the dryer I realized that the dryer wasn't getting warm. I called the owner Robert who said he'd send someone out to look at it and to my surprize two hours later Robert had backed his Surburban and trailer into the drive and installed a brand new dryer! I cannot say enough about this experience except that I will continue to stay here whenever I return to "this neck of the woods!" PL from NJ

The Ponderosa Cabin is a great place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. My family truly enjoyed the pool table which gave us much entertainment! The internet connection worked perfect, which was my biggest concern because my daughter was starting an online college course that week. As for snakes, the “snakeskin” blends in perfectly with the décor throughout the house. Which reminds me, we forgot to get a picture with the big elk in the living room. Guess I need to plan another trip. Thank you for a laid back, easy going rental process. By the way, we found a short cut gravel road to Hendersonville and I was fortunate enough to see a baby bear running up someone driveway...lots of nature to see in those mountains.

Owner response: Really glad you and family had a great time . Hope to see you again in the future......

We were three couples who stayed for three days, we enjoyed our stay overall. The cabin has all amenities mentioned in listing. You can see lot of good reviews on the listing and I would agree with them. - Good functional kitchen - TV, basic cable and DVD player - pool table in basement There were a few reasons that we had to give it 4 stars: - location is difficult to find since it is not on GPS or google maps, we had lot of trouble finding it despite getting directions from the owner. It's an hour away from Asheville - Wireless password is unknown, I had to try at least 10 different ones on scrap papers scattered in the cabin before one of them worked - Basement and grill were dirty, owner called us first morning and asked if everything is ok. He got them cleaned on our request. - Had to go to spooky basement and turn circuit breaker on for hot water Most of these things will not be a problem for most people, so would recommend for people to visit.

We had a great family reunion at the Ponderosa. I hadn't seen my family in 12 years and I'll never forget the great time we had together just sitting in the den watching sun go down behind the mountains. We talked for hours and thanks again Robert for the wonderful Italian Restaurant you recommended in Flat Rock. We all visited Jump Off Rock...you have to see that place its beautiful!!

Vacations give us balance and bring us closer to our families. Twelve years is a long time to be away from your family. So happy to help with your reunion and we hope you visit the Ponderosa cabin again!

My husband and I enjoyed our relaxing stay at the Ponderosa! Everything was immaculate, and each bedroom decorated with a different color scheme. We decided to sleep in the bear room on the second floor next to the bear bathroom; how cute! We chose this cabin because my husband likes to play pool and there was a pool table and bar area on the first floor. We are avid hikers and there are plenty of trails in the area including a gorgeous waterfall just around the corner from the cabin. I have lots of photos of our stay and will certainly be back to stay again next year, thank you!!

We are glad to hear you found the waterfall! How did you like the Biltmore Estate? Again, we're happy to know that you had such a great time at the Ponderosa and look forward to seeing you both next year!!

This property is misrepresented to say the least. Aside from their being no wireless availability, which was important to my family due to myself having MS and my daughters having autism this property is not kept clean and much of the furniture is falling apart, smells, and in many areas has visible dog hair on the surface. We wanted a cabin experience but did not expect to see a snake in our cabin, another on the outside window and hundreds of bees outside the front door. The cabin had a foul smell throughout due to rotten eggs in the refrigerator. We tried reaching the owner as soon as we discovered these things and could not reach him until two days later. We are in the process of filling a complaint with the BBB of NC and having our attorney take legal action if needed. Our children also found a log containing disturbing things about the "ponderosa" and the manikin found in the basement with a swastika on her forehead has continued to give my children nightmares. The owner when finally reached days after was rude and I highly doubt the "comments" about him being caring are even true. Run don't walk away from this falsely advertised property.

Owner response: In ten years of renting the Ponderosa Cabin, this is the first time we have had a negative review and frankly I’m appalled at the far-fetched tales and nature of this review. Snakes, bees and rotten eggs – come on! Also, why do you find it necessary to list your disabilities? Of course we are sad for you, but if you and your husband are going to use that ploy, you should have made sure you say the same disability in the phone messages and emails you left us. After the customer cancelling three times, rescheduling and not owning a credit card, we should have known better than to make an accommodation; my mom always said, “Live and learn.” This is a textbook example of a disgruntled customer who wanted her money back after the stated cancellation time period had passed. We offered a fifty percent refund to cover cleaning fees, but the experienced a phone slamming on the other end. After a vicious phone message, email message along with threats to report us to the BBC, demanding a full refund, we had to send a cease and desist email. The cancellation policy is there to protect both the owner and the renter. Over the years the Ponderosa Cabin has accommodated many happy families and guests who come back year after year. We try extra hard to make our guests as happy as possible and will not allow one Pinocchio story to dampen our spirits!
