We stayed at Blue Heron Lodge for a weekend on Dec. to see family members between a busy Thanksgiving and Christmas season. The view of the lake from the living room was worth the price. We had a cozy, relaxing weekend together and everyone went home rested and happy. Photos in listing accurately depicted house. Owner was very responsive and answered all questions quickly. Would definitely recommend this beautiful house on the lake.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We recently travelled from Southern California and spent 4 nights at the Blue Heron Lodge in mid-November for a soccer tournament. Our group consisted of 16 teenage boys and four chaperones and this home worked out even better than expected. It was clean, comfortable and very spacious. The layout was great for our group and the downstairs kitchen was an added plus. The ping pong and foosball were a hit as was the outdoor firepit where we made s'mores. Even though it was cold outside, we enjoyed the beautiful views amid the fall colors. Our only regret is that is was too cold to test out the lake! We cooked almost every meal and the kitchen was well appointed. We found the owners to be very responsive and accomodating. If our travels ever take us back to this area of the world, we would love to stay again! Thanks for a terrific time!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children.

We have been vacationing at the Blue Heron Lodge for a few years now and we love it there! The house is very nice, has great space, and wonderful views of Lake Gaston. We always look forward to the weekend there and always leave rested.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our extended family consists of 16 people ranging in age from 4 to 67, 3 children under 10, one preteen, two teens, two twenty somes, three in their thirties , three in the forties , one fifty and one in the 60's. Your home really accommodated our wide variety of ages and is perfect for family reunions! We were impressed by the excellent condition of your home, it's very large and well equipped kitchen, and the spacious dining area. Having 2 living rooms and a play room allowed both game activity, tv watching, puzzle doing and book reading simultaniously. Kids fought over the "cave" bedroom. Everyone loved Lizard creek, and after we adjusted to boating through the tunnel, the whole lake experience was fabulous! Having linens and towels provided is an extra benifit, having carted our own at other places all the adults really appreciated that feature. We all had a wonderful time, thank you for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our group of 4 families met at the Blue Heron Lodge for the 4th of July. We had 17 people and had plenty of room for all. The layout of the house was great for a large groups like ours. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen table was able to seat us all. The water was incredible, deep water at the dock. Great for swimming, water skiing, and fishing. The view is fabulous and the sunrises are spectacular. This was a great place to get together with our friends. We will definitely return next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have stayed in this beautiful home for spring, summer and fall vacations. This home is on a quiet part of the lake with much less boat traffic than found on the main lake. There is plenty of room for boating, water skiing, jet skiing or canoeing. The view of the lake is incredible allowing one to enjoy beautiful sunrises every day. The deck is great for bird-watching and barbecuing. The home is immaculately maintained, well-furnished, with a great kitchen where it is easy for everyone to help prepare meals for lots of people. There are two refrigerators, a major plus! The owners are great. Nearby attractions that we have visited include the Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, which was wonderful. The Rosemont Vineyard and winery in LaCrosse, Virginia, a great destination with many superb wines. One can be at A Southern Season Gourmet Shop in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in under two hours where one can spend the better part of a day shopping and eating great food. There are plenty of roads to walk/run on in the neighborhood for the exercise enthusiast. Grocery, boat repair, hardware, pharmacy and food stores very near by. Rent this home! You will not be disappointed.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Fifteen members of our family (including six teenagers!) met at Blue Heron Lodge for Thanksgiving 2011. We loved the house, the view, the lake, everything. The layout of the house is perfect for a large group; we had plenty of space to spread out and never felt crowded. The large and well-equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare a 22-pound turkey and all the accompanying dishes easily, and the extra refrigerator downstairs really came in handy. We were all able to sit down for meals at ONE table, which really meant a lot to us all. No kids' table! The kids stayed busy the entire weekend with the game room, canoe, fishing from the dock, and the fire pit at night. We can only imagine how much fun this house would be in summer when it is warm enough to swim. We all hope to return. It was a very special time, made even better by the beautiful house and scenery.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, people with disabilities, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
