Nestled in the Vermont woods, down a dead-end country dirt road, sits a unique, heavenly site. It is a playful home for families to enjoy, with all the activities that Vermont is famous for just outside your door. Sunlight filters through the stained glass windows casting pale color patterns on the interiors. Hand-painted chests of drawers, architectural elements and colorful DR chairs combined with cozy cheerful linens contribute to the happy atmosphere of this home. Upholstered chairs, window seats and couches contribute to the inspired interior. The continuous floor plan from kitchen to dining room to living room invites family interaction, with a tower/den room for intimate board games, cards and reading; and a lower level playroom/mudroom for the rambunctious. The 3 main bedrooms have a king bed, queen and double bed, with 4 twin beds in the kids' loft room. There are 2.5 bathrooms. All rooms have stained glass windows. It is an ideal floor plan for 2-3 families who love to have fun and be together.
The house is perched on a hill above a small pond. This simple retreat has all the simplicity, privacy and advantage of being in a secluded, peaceful location, while being within 30 minutes of Manchester and its renowned resort amenities, from spas, sports facilities and gourmet dining to museums, book stores and designer outlets. Nearby, Orvis has expert fly-fishing instruction and there is kayaking and canoeing. Stratton and Bromley are 15-20 minutes away with excellent nordic and alpine skiing, skating, golf and tennis, fine dining, and shops. There is immediate access to National Forests with lake activities, hiking the Long Trail, and horse-back riding. Owner info
Year Purchased: 1967
About the owner: We were originally a family of 5, my husband, me and 3 sons. Now, two sons are married and one has a 10 month old baby boy. Our youngest sonrecently graduated from college and intends on joining the Navy. We live in Westchester County, NY, have a vegetable garden, two Chesapeake Bay retrievers, chickens and bees. I have been a landscape designer for over 23 years and we are serious environmentalists. We love the outdoors, sports, travel and collecting art and antiques. My mother and father originally built this house, having purchased a Universalist/Unitarian church in North Londonderry, then deciding to build a new house in the woods and install the old windows and revamped light fixtures. The house is fanciful and open, with a cruciform plan and a tower room. It has very cozy, sweet, simple interiors. Low maintenance inside and out. We have fond memories raising our family in this house, along with our extended family. Our favorite things to do here, besides the sports available nearby, are simple and family-oriented: playing Scrabble or Charades after dinner, sledding in front of the house after skiing, watching calves being born in the barn up the road, swimming in the local ponds, working in my garden, walking our country road, and cross-country skiing in the woods. I was married down the road in a field as was my son.
