  My husband and I stayed at Heronsrest the week of 1-26-13. It was such a delight to stay in this immaculate home. Also, the rental includes a lot of amenities, so you only need your clothes and whatever food and drink you want on hand. We loved all the exotic tropical flora, together with the constant parade of water fowl. With coffee in hand, we sat on the nice dock and enjoyed the warm breezes and beautiful sights. The location, to us, was also perfect. Some of the experiences we had and which we would do again are: Dolphin Research Center; boat trip to Fort Jefferson/Dry Tortugas; boat trip to Pigeon Key; picnic and sunning at Bahia Honda State Park; walk/bike over Long Key Bridge; Long Key State Park; and more. Also, don't miss a day trip to Key West. The food was good at the Wreck and Galley and we had a very good Lobster Reuben at Key Fisheries Restaurant in Marathon. We also got local fresh lobster for dinner one evening. One of the nicest thing about this trip was all the friendly people we met. We really like to vacation where people are welcoming.Susie, the homeowner, was incredibly helpful and even met us at the rental to go over everything. We both truly appreciate being able to rent this great place for our 2013 winter vacation. We certainly want to return.

  Just a great place to kick back, relax and do nothing. The porch and dock were perfect for relaxing. The cottage itself suited our needs with an open floor plan we enjoyed cooking and visiting. Easy to find, safe and secure fishing village. Close to Marathon for shopping and good eateries. Close to State parks and beaches. We loved being able to talk a walk during the late afternoon and purchase lobsters for dinner from our neighbors. The best however was that we could enjoy watching the wildlife which consisted of a wide variety of birds, fish, sea turtles and even a visit from a manatee. Can't wait to get back for a longer visit.

  Perfect immaculate waterfront cottage! Vacation in paradise! Sitting on the back deck you hear the palms blowing in the breeze, see birds, feel the warm sun, and smell that fresh salt air. Enjoyed morning walk around conch key with my dog and greeting friendly neighbors. Key lime pie from convenience store and fresh lobster and stone crab claws from local fisherman. Incredible sunsets from dock, bird watching, manatees, turtles, fish, a dream vacation. This was our first trip to the keys , but we plan to make Heron;s Rest a family tradition. Thank you for sharing this wonderful cottage.

  Absolute paradise....The property took us out of our hectic lives so much that we were oblivious to the world around us -- literally. The house is cozy but open air. We were a family of three and fit just fine. We have stayed at other homes on Conch Key and this one surpasses them all in the level of cleanliness, amenities and supplies. Excellent kitchen and layout. Amazing dock. Susie is a gracious host. We enjoyed renting a boat from A-Affordable Boat Rentals at the Bayview Inn on the key, Snorkeling with Chad and Rich at Sundance Watersports on Duck Key, the Wreck Bar on Duck Key, Island Fish Co at the beginning of Marathon and the Dolphin Research Center. Susie was friendly with great communication as we dealt with some last minute family health issues leading up to our trip. The personal communication goes a long way. We are already looking at the calendar to see when will be back next year!

  I hesitate to say how wonderful this place is because we want to keep it all to ourselves!! It is everything as promised. CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, cozy, quiet, restful, and beautiful inside and out. Everything is made of wood and it's gorgeous. The house provides everything you could want for your stay. It is as if the owners stayed there for a year and made a list of items needed. All you need to do is bring food. The beds are super comfy, the a/c is immediate and works great. Fans everywhere.The dock is quiet, clean, roomy and we caught all kinds of things; Crabs, barracuda, snapper, parrot fish,some kind of Angel fish, and even a baby nurse shark. At night we were visited by a manatee. During the day the Herons and the Egrets come to keep you company. You can lure them to the dock by simply throwing a piece of bait. Nobody bothers you here, sunsets are awesome. You can walk the whole cozy island in 10 minutes. Thank you Susan (and unseen Gerald) for the most wonderfule memories we have of our trip to the Keys. We will be back for sure next year if all goes well on this end, I guarantee it. All the kids keep saying is "Let's go back to Susan's place!!"

  We chose this location as we were picking up our som at Sea Base in Islamorada. It was perfect! The reviews, photos, and videos of this gem were right on target. We were simply thrilled with Heron's Rest cleanliness, stock of supplies, exceptionally efficient A/C, awesome hammock and general flow of the home met all our needs! We highly recommend this cottage jewel to anyone wanting to explore the Florida Keys.

  First of all a little about ourselves, we are in our 30’s work too much and love to go to the keys just to get away from our busy schedules and lives in South Florida. Susie the owner is a sweetheart, she made sure we were comfortable and gave us a walkthrough of everything we needed in the house. The house is well appointed with everything you need. We are clean freaks and Susie’s home was extremely clean, clean like our own home and very comfortable for the two of us. She has thought of everything in the kitchen, we enjoy cooking and it was such a great place to cook, grill out and enjoy the views. We docked a 25ft boat with twin engines at her place no problem. We fished from the dock at night and there was little Tarpon all over the place. We saw two of the most amazing sunsets from her dock that you will ever see, postcard quality sunsets! I can’t think of anything that would make this place more enjoyable, overall this is the way the keys should be. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone that wants to experience the chilled and relaxed lifestyle of the keys. Marathon and Islamorada are both very close if you need a publix, kmart etc. Be sure to stop by the local store on the corner of Conch Key and get a Key Lime pie from the Key West Key Lime Company Pie Company – its worth the $15. We will be back Susie, thank you for everything.

  We loved this property. It was so beautiful and very clean. We bought fresh fish and lobster at the local dock. We watched beautiful sunsets from the pier. Susie and Gerald were great. We cannot wait to come back again.

  Let's face it -- most photos of rental homes paint a prettier picture than reality. Not so with this amazing cottage! In fact, we were thrilled when we walked in the door and saw how lovely the place is! Susie and Gerald have a Keys treasure, and we're so glad they're willing to share it! The cottage is immaculate and in a great location for diving, fishing, eating and relaxing. Susie was so great about accommodating last minute extra guests. Couldn't have been better! We'll definitely be back.
