About the owner: We built this house when I was a little girl. We cleared the land that is now the road leading to it, and gradually sold the lots to people who have in turn built homes. It is a tightly knit little community who values the privacy and beauty around us. I've been coming out here all my life and this house is full of wonderful memories, past and present. I love family. My mother and I have decorated this house ourselves and every item has significance. My husband is a medical oncologist and researcher -he loves to bake bread and play touch football on the beach with the kids, go out for good meals, bike, and read by the water.
Why the Owner Chose Peconic:
My parents are New Englanders. They wanted something a bit more Cape Coddish than the South Fork and found this property and were hooked. My mother and I are very artistic and love to decorate and have filled the house with our art and unique finds from all over the world.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You can't get any closer to the beach. All you have to do is walk 2 minutes and you're there. There is a protected marsh on one side, a pond on the other, so you really have a quiet soothing location. We know everyone around the towns--it is a lovely small-town feel. Go to Aldo's on a Sunday morning for the best cappucino on the East end and homemade scones that will wake you up in the middle of winter, wanting more. Take the kids to the magic fountain for fabulous ice cream (including a child's guaranteed' home-run 'lots of stuff' ) or play mini-golf in Greenport. The Greenport theater or Mattituck theaters are terrific; and for the art-house film lover, take your bike on the ferry to Sag Harbour and spend the day there topped off by an indie flick. Don't forget the frisky oyster for drinks or Calypso for that great beach coverup. You are 10 minutes from a local supermarket (King Kullen), 15 minutes from the Mattituck Cheese shop and there are a variety of gyms all within 15 minutes. You are surrounded by local vineyards for an afternoon of wine-tasting and summer attractions include the strawberry festival, a fourth of july carnival in Southold, and fireworks.
