Boulder house description
This gorgeous new custom home in a very quiet North Boulder neighborhood marries brilliant architectural design with high-quality sustainable materials. Living spaces in this 7000+ sq. ft. house flow from the entry foyer through formal living and dining rooms to the sun-drenched Great Room. Oversize glass doors and windows looking out on the large, beautiful yard create an “indoor-outdoor” feel.
The commitment to a green, healthy home extends to the use of natural nontoxic paints, natural exterior stucco, natural insulation, and air filtration. Artisan woodwork in Craftsman style adorns the cherrywood fireplace mantles, wainscoting, and cabinetry.
The Great Room’s wall of windows creates a fanciful play of vaulted, light-filled space, with soaring ceilings capturing the soft glow of the sheltered sun filtering in from the 2-story al fresco Great Room Terrace. A double-sided fireplace with a custom-built cherry mantle is framed with slate-toned soapstone.
The spacious, gourmet kitchen is an embrace of all the elements the cook will find appealing: Viking 48-inch, dual-fuel stove; lustrous cherry cabinetry; ample counter space; two sinks. Guests and family will gather comfortably to engage the cook in conversation at an elegant center island whose efficiency doesn’t sacrifice design with its soapstone and solid maple counter. Yards of practical counter space in honey-colored maple butcher block and slate-grey soapstone includes a large prep area adjoining the breakfast bar center island.A well-appointed butler’s pantry is situated between dining room and kitchen.
Adjoining the kitchen is a windowed, airy breakfast alcove framed in garden views. This welcoming breakfast nook offers garden views and invites the morning sun (and an occasional grazing doe) to peek in. French doors open to the back patio.
Two bedrooms are on the main level. One is an extensive suite with a sitting room that opens to a private terrace, and a private bath. Bedrooms are swathed in a beige froth of 100% New Zealand virgin wool carpet. Both are ADA compliant, if guests should have special needs.
The cozy library features a fireplace with jade colored split face marble and a bowed wood hearth in an Art Deco-inspired design, the perfect place to curl up with a good book.
At the center of the home is an open balcony, double-height stair gallery with wrought-ironwork that echoes the Craftsman era. At the top of the stairs, the second floor Open Space is bright with natural light from the north and south windows, creating the perfect playroom or study area (or extra office space).
There are two generously sized bedrooms with walk-in closets at one end of the second floor, ideal for children, and a charmingly appointed full bath. (There is even a built-in laundry chute.)
The second floor boasts an exceptional Master Suite that functions as a luxurious private retreat. Huge windows bring southwestern views of the Front Range and city into the room. The suite includes a large sitting room.
A marble-framed gas fireplace warms the generous Sitting Room and can be viewed from the bed. The Master Suite’s extensive square footage and a light, airy spirit promise long and languid hours of repose. French doors lead to a private balcony and deck.
There are his-and-hers cherry-appointed walk-in closets /dressing rooms with extensive cabinetry. A built-in marble-top Wet Bar counter with bar-size sink, cabinets, and a fridge to extend the ease and privacy of time spent here.
The Master Suite’s “his and hers” theme is echoed in the spacious, travertine-tiled Master Bath. There are two separate vanities of cherry and slab marble. One room off the vanity features a large jetted tub in a windowed alcove and and a private toilet. The other side is devoted to a walk-in/sit down double showerhead steam shower.
The jewel in the crown of the Master Suite's amenities is the 3rd floor private sanctuary, accessed by a private staircase. This aerie high above the treetops with spectacular views let your muses and spirit soar. Art studio...yoga retreat...meditation room... business office...it’s your choice. Walk out onto a large balcony and catch magnificent views of the Flatirons through the treetops.
The backyard patio with its wood-lined, soaring 2-story roof is perfect spot for outdoor entertaining and convivial al fresco dining
Towering mature trees grace the large backyard, conveying a sense of beauty and shelter.
To be clear: This impeccably maintained home is for the discerning traveler who looks for elegance, comfort, and functionality at a fair value, not for the bargain hunter. Escape to Boulder
Escape to Boulder
This is a fabulous house. We stayed here over the Christmas Holiday 2011 and really enjoyed the very large and well equipped kitchen. We had a blast preparing holiday meals at the house, but there are also great great restaurants in Boulder. The house has wonderful large spaces to share and many many nooks to steal away some quiet time by yourself. The photos do not really demonstrate how large the house is. Great space abounds. It is reasonably close to the downtown Pearl Street area (maybe 10 minutes away) and is located in a very nice neighborhood. You can easily walk to the nearby grocery, coffee shop, liquor store and hiking in the hills outside Boulder is also only a short walk away from the house. In the evening, the deer come into the neighborhood to feed and it only adds to the wonderful non-reality that is Boulder. The host and owners are also very helpful and were always nearby if we need something for the kitchen, but otherwise out of sight. Stay here, you will be glad you did.

About: I have been in the Colorado real estate business most of my life. I co-designed with a leading architect, and personally oversaw, the building of this house as my dream home, sourcing the luxury green materials and custom finishes, paying close attention to every detail. I am a great nature lover and an environmentalist, as well as someone who appreciates fine furnishings and high-end home design. I am keenly attuned to the sense of delight that living amid beautiful surroundings can confer.
Our house is on an extraordinarily quiet and peaceful street with a lovely, well-treed neighborhood to walk and bike. I love walking to the market, in a small local shopping center that has a great local coffee house, quality green drycleaner, a good tapas restaurant, the popular Nomad Theater, etc.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is a sense of living on a country lane in this North Boulder location, yet it is minutes from myriad attractions of this incredible community. I love to go up to the peaceful 3rd floor aerie, do yoga, then sit on the deck with a cup of tea and gaze out at the beauty of Boulder.
