Our weekend home can be your winter escape, a woodland delight on 6 acres, a 100+ year-old restored home, with a huge front porch, with - yes - a porch swing. Inside you will find high ceilings, long-leaf pine floors, old-fashioned woodwork and bay window, with a modern kitchen and bath. Outside, the pool is surrounded by a large deck and an outdoor enclosed shower (hot water). Again, all this is watched over by huge oak, hickory and dogwood trees. You can't see your neighbors, because of the thick woods, but you are near friendly Texas folks. The property is about a mile from State Highway 36, about 7 miles from groceries and restaurants in Bellville, and about 11 miles from groceries and restaurants in Brenham. For a short day trip, explore Houston's museums, restaurants and shopping, or Austin's live music scene.
Our home is a typical Texas Dog-run style house. That is, there is a main central hall running from the front door to the sun porch on the back. On the right of the hall, there are the living room, dining room and kitchen. On the left, there are the front bedroom and middle bedroom, with the bath between.
Several golf courses are within convenient distance, and with our mild Texas winters, you will be able to actually play!

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I am a retired lawyer, having practiced law for 25 years. I have been an adjunct professor at the University of Houston since 1991, where I teach Family Law and Conflict Resolution. My husband is a retired NASA engineer, and has done most of the carpentry in the restoration of this house. We moved the house to our property from the main street of Brenham. It was cut in half and rejoined on our land. We then spent the next 3 years renovating the house - It took 18 gallons of paint stripper to refinish all the woodwork! We have spent many fun times at our place with friends and family. My husband is an avid golfer and birder, and I love painting. We both are crazy about our grandkids.
Why the Owner Chose Bellville:
We love the proximity to Houston and Austin, the beautiful scenery with all the trees, and especially the spring wildflowers. Many winter Texans participate in the Brenham Art League and enjoy the golf courses nearby.
