We are excited to be opening our calendar for the upcoming months of September, October and November, a wonderful time to visit the Sonoma Wine Country, free from the hustle and bustle of the summer tourist season. After 15 years, this will be our last season offering our beautiful Hilltop Oasis home and gardens for your enjoyment as next Spring we will be selling and moving onto our next adventure on Old Cape Cod!
Our one acre property sits atop Taylor Mountain, 15 minutes southeast of downtown Santa Rosa. This private home is clustered within a small community of houses that are surrounded by ranches and vineyards, affording breathtaking views above most summer fog, but still affording cooler summer temperatures that make air conditioning unnecessary! Sebastopol, Petaluma, Kenwood and Glen Ellen are 20 minutes away and the historic town of Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Healdsburg and the Bodega Coast are just 30 minute drives. The excitement of downtown San Francisco is an hour or so away. Charles Schulz Airport, host to American/Alaska/Avelo airlines is just a short 20 minute drive.
This classic California mid-century Ranch style home, was designed by a Danish architect in the early 70's with high ceilings and an open floorplan, hosting a chef's kitchen. The living/dining/family room opens to covered terraces, perfect for year-round alfresco dining and cooking on the grill next to the pool. A cozy sitting area/library with 100's of varied titles to browse is nestled around a wood burning fireplace. The Master bedroom has bathroom en-suite and affords a wake up view of the valley below. The second bedroom has an en-suite bath with tub. Both bedrooms have queen beds.
The gardens have been designed by the landscape architect owner and have been featured in Sunset Magazine/Western Garden Book, Better Homes and Gardens and other publications. Many garden rooms with different themes such as the English Mixed Border, the Sunset Perennial Hill, the Vegetable Terraces, the Lookout Point, The Maple Dell, have many different places to sit, matching any particular mood. There are two water features and a pond full of colorful fish. The solar heated, salt water swimming pool shares the BBQ terrace with a nearby hot/cold outdoor shower that can be used after sundown under a star filled or even rainy sky. A 4 person Jacuzzi is heated at all hours to 104 degrees and nestled under a shady arbor on the expansive redwood deck. Skinny dipping is encouraged around the completely private pool area.
There is even garden area designed specifically for small weddings (up to 45 people and additional charges will occur).
Wildlife watching abounds, especially with the morning birds queuing up to be first in the feeder. Bluejays wait to be treated to peanuts and clumsy quail, sometimes 20 at a time jump up on the terrace wall in search of breakfast. Hawks, Geese, Woodpeckers and hungry Herons fly overhead and Owls serenade at night. Deer, fenced out of the gardens, browse below and an occasional fox can be seen at sundown along with turkeys roosting in the oaks.
Wineries, Armstrong Woods, Annadel State Park, the Prince Memorial Bike Trail along Santa Rosa Creek, Sugarloaf State Park, the Valley of the Moon, Lake Sonoma, Historic Petaluma, the Charles Shultz Museum, Luther Burbank Gardens, The Green Music Center are local attractions that are close by. Downtown Santa Rosa with Historic Railroad Square and Montgomery Village is home to numerous restaurants, bookshops, antique shops, museums and theaters.
