This one acre property sits atop Taylor Mountain, 15 minutes southeast of downtown Santa Rosa; a whole world away from the hustle and bustle. This very private home is clustered within a small community of houses that are surrounded by ranches and vineyards affording breathtaking views high above most of the winter fog and cold temperatures of the Santa Rosa Plain. Bennett Valley, Kenwood and Glen Ellen are 20 minutes away and the historic town of Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Healdsburg and the Bodega Coast are 40 minute drives. The excitement of downtown San Francisco is just an hour away.
This classic ranch style home has high celings and an open floorplan with a chef's kitchen. The living/dining/family room opens to the large covered terrace, perfect for year-round alfresco dining. A cozy sitting area/library with 100's of varied titles to browse is nestled around a wood burning fireplace. The Master bedroom has bathroom en-suite and affords a wake up view of the valley below. The second bedroom has an en-suite bath with tub. Both bedrooms have queen beds and cable TV.
The gardens have been designed by the landscape architect owner and have been featured in Sunset Magazine/Western Garden Book, Better Homes and Gardens and other publications. Many garden rooms with different themes such as the English Mixed Border, the Sunset Perennial Hill, the Vegetable Terraces, the Lookout Point, The Maple Dell, have many different places to sit matching any particular mood. There are two water features and a pond full of colorful fish. (Please see the separate link to the Picassa Web Album for copious garden photos). The swimming pool shares the BBQ terrace with a nearby outdoor shower can be used after sundown under a star filled or even rainy sky.
Wildlife watching abounds, especially with the morning birds queueing up to be first in the feeder. Bluejays wait to be treated to peanuts and clumsy quail, sometimes 20 at a time jump up on the terrace wall in search of breakfast. Hawks, Geese, Woodpeckers and hungry Herons fly overhead and owls serenade at night. Deer, fenced out of the gardens, browse below and and an occasional fox can be seen at sundown along with turkeys roosting in the oaks.
Wineries, Armstrong Woods, Annadale State Park, the Prince Memorial Bike Trail along Santa Rosa Creek, Sugarloaf State Park, the Valley of the Moon, Lake Sonoma, Historic Petaluma, the Charles Shultz Museum are local attractions that are closeby. Downtown Santa Rosa with Historic Railroad Square is home to numerous restaurants, bookshops, antique shops, museums and theaters.
Keywords: Chef's kitchen, open floor plan, high ceilings, bright sunny rooms, resort style private gardens, expansive southwest views.

Fantastic Stay in Wine Country
Fantastic Stay in Wine Country

There were four of us (2 couples) who stayed a week during the Fall of 2012. We had a fabulous time! Immediately upon arrival to this home, we felt our stress levels drop with the peaceful surroundings of the property. The photos on the site are accurate in depicting the property, but they don't do real justice to the actual experience. The serenity of the gardens alone is well worth considering a stay here. Bird watching, deer, wild turkeys all add interest as well. There are several points within the gardens where you can sit and relax, just absorbing the beauty of the grounds. We were very comfortable in the home - plenty of room for the 4 of us. It was clean and very well maintained - no issues there. The location is perfect as you're never more than about 30 minutes from any of the top wine country areas - Napa, Sonoma, Healdsburg, Dry Creek, Russian River Creek. This makes a perfect home base for exploring as much or as little as you want. San Francisco is about an hour away, also allowing for time in the City as desired. The owner was great - no issues or problems in arranging our stay. My only hesitation in recommending this location is that the secret will be out, making it more competitive for us if we want to stay again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Julie and all our other guests this year for such fantastic reviews and we hope to see you all again in the future! Happy Holiday to All!

This home worked very well for our stay during the month of August. The house is perfectly maintained, with a great kitchen, excellent gas grill, comfortable beds and beautiful view. We thoroughly enjoyed the salt water pool and the outdoor shower. The flower and vegetable gardens were a real joy and supplied us with an abundance of new surprises every day. Everything about the house was as described and more and we will hopefully come back for a visit in the near feature.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: You two were the consummate guests, thank you for staying and enjoying our property for the whole month!

This experience could not have been any better! From the fantastic communication, accuracy in listing, to the property all was absolutely perfect. The directions were easy to follow and there is no words to give justice to the view, the gardens, the comfort, and accomodations that greet you there. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook in, Santa Rosa has the best brew house/ pizzaria for a casual dinner out, and we had easy access to both Nappa and Sonoma vinyards for touring... although we cut one day short to enjoy the pool and views at the house!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you and please come again!

My wife & I, along with our best friends, rented this beautiful home the week of Memorial Day. Neither the pictures, nor the text, do the home justice. The interior, which is very open, is well appointed and maintained. The refrigerator was stocked with many food items (so much so, we were afraid to use them, at first!!). The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need and, for those that like to cook-out (which we did on two occasions), there’s a propane BBQ grill. The exterior includes a beautiful view of the valley below (for those of us from topography challenged Texas – it was especially unique); as well as well-maintained grounds, a vegetable garden with over 50 different species, a large patio and a comfortably sized pool. It was a joy to feed the birds (and the squirrels) each day in the bird feeder off the patio and to take walks, each morning, where we could see deer, turkeys and other wildlife. The location was perfect for us - about 10 minutes outside Santa Rosa and centrally located in the Sonoma wine country. Between Sonoma and Napa, we visited over 25 wineries in six days and got back to the house each day around 3 (in time to relax at the pool & sample some of our wine purchases!!). Was it perfect? No, we gave the owner a few, small suggestions and he was so gracious in listening to them. But – it was VERY close to perfect – at least for us. When we’re back in the Sonoma/Napa area, we’ll look to see if this home is available – FIRST!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your fabulous comments.

The house was wonderful!!! Everything about it exceeded our expectations! The view, the gardens, the pool and the house were a renter's dream. The house had everything that you needed and it was incredibly clean. We will definitely be back to enjoy the house again and again. It is a home away from home!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your GREAT review. We would love to host you again at any time!!!

We can't even begin to describe how perfect this house was for our trip. It was the perfect distance from wine country (about 45 minutes to drive over to Napa/Sonoma), as well as the perfect distance from civilization (there are neighbors but not that many). Each morning we woke up to the perfect sunrise/view and enjoyed our breakfast out on the veranda; each night we went back to that same veranda to enjoy a glass of wine and the sunset/view. The house is up to date with the latest applicances in the kitchen, which made for great cooking since we had an executive chef with us. To add to the beauty of the kitchen, there was a garden in the back with all kinds of fresh vegetables that we used for: a) breakfast to make fresh fritattis and b) dinner to make a fresh salad or roasted root vegetables. The pool was the perfect spot to spend an afternoon just relaxing and taking a break from wine country. Combine that with lounging in the pool chairs, sipping a homemade mimosa and enjoying the seasonal afternoon air. This house was perfect in every way and we cannot wait to return to wine country. Or maybe just return and spend a week at this house!! PS: The pictures do not even begin to show the beauty of this house. If you have to be there and see it to believe itRecommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for such a brilliant review and we invite you back!

We recently stayed the weekend at this beautiful hilltop home with another couple. The owners greeted us graciously with a freshly baked cake, fresh fruit, and a quick tour of the property. This home is more like a bed and breakfast than a typical VRBO rental property. The space was very clean and has every amenity you could ever need, including shampoo/conditioner, a semi-stocked refrigerator, wine (for purchase), and a fully equipped kitchen. We enjoyed a nice BBQ dinner and many a card games on the terrace that overlooks the gorgeous property. Highly recommended.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3
