This is a beautiful modern house completely different from most of the rustic Maine rental options or B&Bs. Maine is wonderful, but lacking in modernist, Dwell-magazine-worthy rentals: the 'Soular' house fills this void. The main room is a light-filled, two-storey box with a row of floor-level windows on one side - and windows on two other sides - looking onto forest and giving spectacular sunrises and moonlit night views. The main bedroom is a warm, wooden retreat with a king-sized bed and well-appointed/ well designed fixtures. There is also a more simply-apppointed 2nd room downstairs for kids or people that don't mind two twin beds. If you want to sleep more than 4 in this house, then the others should bring sleep-masks as the main space, while having a fold-out bed, gets bright in the morning. It is well-located for exploring mid-coast and downeast Maine. It is quiet, being set back from the road in the woods. Minor gripes: Like most places in this area you will need a car (not really walking distance to the village ~2mi) and because it is in the woods, you will need bugspray (like any nature-centred place worth its salt) if you want to venture out at night to sit by the fire pit. Major pluses: all the above reasons, plus the owner and designer is a superb person to rent from: he is helpful and kind. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This house is hip, cool, contemporary and eco-friendly. I have been curious about what it's like to live in a house that was designed to be energy efficient and non-toxic; I now know that it's warm and cozy in the fall and the air is fresh and clean. The owner has done a great job making this a comfortable place to stay. The location is rural which is how I like it. The color of the leaves were exactly how they are famously described. Wiscasset was quiet when I was there in the fall, however, the restaurants were still open. I definitely recommend trying this place out. I plan to come back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Thank you for the rental of your new home to our family for our vacation to Wiscasset. It was nice to stay where we wanted to visit and get some quality time together instead of spending so much time in the car. The home was as described on a peaceful and beautiful large property away from any neighbors or noise. A great retreat yet close to downtown for any dining, shopping, activities. It was neat to see a solar powered house in action as we are thinking of adding solar to our house. The owner was very helpful with the arrangements and all questions we had. We can't wait to do it again next year and will definitely try to get this home again! Can you say Lobster!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Pristine location to commune with nature. Set in a surrounding of trees, a small babbling brook and fresh air. Very comforatble space inside and out. We loved the solitude. Canoe outings were a short distance away. Wiscassett "The cutest little village in Maine" was a short drive, Ice cream, famous lobster rolls and good restaurant while viewing the water. Cute shops downtown. We loved our stay.Very relaxing and refreshing. Owner was very helpfull. Hope to do it all again!!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
