a wonderful stay and fun experience. Anne kept us well fed in the morning and taught us alot about the culture of cajun country. Lots of valuable information. It was more like staying with a close friend or relative than a B and B. Beautiful area and the cottage was up to date and well kept. Plenty to do and eat in the Abbeville area. Great birding and great cajun food. A very friendly community. forget N.O. and see the 'real Louisianna'.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed at Bayou Rose over Easter weekend and had a great time! Anne and Mike could not have been nicer or more helpful and the house was just immaculate, with many great personal touches and a nice deck to sit and watch the bayou roll by. There was plenty to do in the area and really great food. Anne was so sweet and left us treats every morning - including a chocolate bunny on Easter! We would highly recommend the Bayou Rose.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Aaron for your wonderful review! Imagine my surprise when the Easter Bunny hopped over and found a treat for me!!! And to top it off that is my all time favorite candy!!! Thank you for the autograph copy of your newest book, "Builders of a New South", "Merchants, Capital, and the Remaking of Natchez,1865-1914! What a great addition it is to Bayou Rose! Looking forward to y'all visiting again one day soon.

We enjoyed our stay at Bayou Rose Cottage very much. It was beautiful, spotlessly clean, peaceful and every amenity we could think of was provided. We enjoyed the simple pleasure of sitting on the covered deck gazing at the bayou. Anne and Mike provided us with helpful information for our Cajun Country exploration, such as recommending Champagne's swamp tour and showing us how to eat take-out crawfish from a local restaurant. Abbeville is a good location for visiting the historic Cajun village at Lafayette, the towns of St. Martinville and New Iberia and Avery and Jefferson Islands. In addition, the town itself is more charming that the much larger center of Lafayette. We regret we did not have more time to spend in the area as our stay at Bayou Rose Cottage was a highlight.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you both for your wonderful review! We enjoyed meeting you both and hoping you come back soon to spend more time in Cajun Country! We have great memories of our time spent eating the delicious boiled crawfish and sharing in y'alls travels! Laissez les bons temps Rouler!

You couldn't find a nicer place to stay in Abbeville. Close to all that you need, yet removed enough to feel you're in the countryside. Anne, was the warmest, most accomodating host you can imagine. Cottage was more charming than the pictures, if that's possible. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you both for staying at Bayou Rose! Wish y'all could have enjoyed our warm weather a little longer! Can't even begin to imagine going back to all that sneaux!!! Until we meet again, Laissez les bons Temps Rouler!

This was one of our best vacations ever in our nearly 50 years of marriage. The cottage was very clean and cozy and well supplied including brochures and Anne's book of points of interest and local restaurants. There was so much to do in the area with some of the best restaurants to be found anywhere. The best part, though, were our hosts, Anne and Mike. Anne gave us so many good tips and was so helpful with answering any questions we had. We learned that Louisianans are very freindly people and Mike and Anne are at the Top of our List!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you both for choosing Bayou Rose. We are anxiously awaiting your return and our visit up north especially for Mike to try his luck at turkey hunting! Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Our four days at the Bayou Rose was the high point of our two week stay in Louisiana. Anne and Mike gave us a wonderful taste of Cajun Country. The cottage was packed with mementoes of the area plus travel guides and history. Their daily morning coffee visits set the tone for the day's explorations. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed---even when we were too slow or too late to eat at the very well recommened local restaurants. A peaceful retreat after our days enjoying the Rip Van Winkle Gardens, Avery Island, Tabasoc tour, ,Acadian Village and History Center, and Palmetto State Park. Thank you Anne and Mike GuilbeauxRecommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Bev and Marv. Missing my morning coffee with y'all and looking forward to the day you both may return! Geaux Ducks!!!

My friend and I spent last weekend at Bayou Rose and couldn't have been more satisfied. The cottage itself is immaculate, smells wonderful, is cozy and serene. Anne and Mike are hands down, the best hosts ever. We received a warm southern welcome, information about where to get the best grub, and just plain friendliness....not only wil I recommend Bayou Rose to all my friends but will definitely return as much as I can! Thanks again Anne and Mike for a truly pleasurable experience! Laissez le Bon temps rouler!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Kate! We are looking forward to y'alls return one day. Fire pit a going and some good ole boiled crawfish! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

The cottage was perfect and the hosts warm and helpful. Anne visited every day to check on us and provide advice for activities as well as up-dates on local weather and road conditions. We hoped to spend our time outdoors, birdwatching, and to see the coast. Unfortunately it rained throughout our entire stay, but we had a restful time watching the birds and rising bayou from the porch; from that we learned that squirrels swim, that the Vermilion deserves its name, and that it is ok to just loll in a rocking chair listening to the rain and drinking Community Coffee. We recommend eating at Richard's. Order from the menu for cooked to order delicacies such as grilled shrimp, or catfish, and try the juiciest frog legs ever. Of course there are the boiled craw-fish feasts! Abbeville has the charm of a very small town worth spending an afternoon walking around and visiting the Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance center. We found historical downtown Lafayette disappointingly uninteresting. No art galleries were open, the town's shopping center must be drawing all the business away from the historical heart which seemed to be barely beating. We visited the Lafayette Acadiana Center for the Arts where there was an interesting selection of exhibits.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you both for being such wonderful guests considering the weather. We were able to see the beauty in days of rain considering y'all came from a drought area. You showed us how to see the glass half full instead of half empty. Hoping to see you again.

My husband and I have stayed at other B & B's in Abbeville and this one is the best as far as we're concerned. The Caldwell is wonderful, too, especially because the manager fixes this delicious gourmet breakfast for you, but the Bayou Rose gives the kind of relaxing atmosphere that we're looking for on our vacation stays in Cajun country. The deck overlooking the bayou is just what we have in mind when we have our morning coffee. The kitchen is well stocked so if we want to fix a more complete breakfast, you are able to do so, but Anne provides a treat every morning. She will shop for you in advance so all groceries for that complete breakfast (if you so desire) are there for you when you arrive. The property is beautifully maintained. The cottage is immaculate and the grounds are lovely, hummingbirds included. When we were there it was during the fall approaching Holloween, and Anne had decorated the property for that season. We just had a wonderful visit, and we're looking forward to another stay at the Bayou Rose.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind review. We anxiously await your next return!

What a marvelous cottage! And what marvelous hosts! Anne goes WAAYYY above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to pleasing her guests! If you ask for a piece of information, she’ll about go to the ends of the earth to get it for you, and her endless supply of treats are incredible. The cottage is located next to their home on the Vermillion River. It was originally built for Mike’s mother, and later used as a honeymoon cottage for their oldest daughter, housing for victims of hurricane Rita, and a home for their college-age daughter. When they no longer had family to occupy it, someone suggested they open it as a B&B - and we’d sure like to thank that person! The kitchen is equipped as well as my kitchen at home, and the cottage even includes a washer and dryer PLUS detergent! Happily the weather cooled off so we could really enjoy the deck our last couple days with its peaceful river views and where the hummingbirds and butterflies entertained us after busy days touring the area . Abbieville serves as a great place to tour Cajun country. From there we did the Creole Trail (LOTS of gators!), Breaux Bridge/St Martinsville area for a swamp tour and Longfellow-Evangeline State park, and when we expressed an interest in the sugar cane harvest, Anne immediately put us in touch with a local farmer who gave us a great education on the subject. An added advantage of Abbeville is the most fantastic food available there. We were able to try so many new dishes - usually getting them via carryout to bring back to our “little home”. We have visited all 50 states and stayed in everything from campgrounds to 5 star hotels, but I can honestly say I’ve never been more comfortable anywhere than at the Bayou Rose. We loved Cajun country , and all the very friendly people in it, and we especially loved the Bayou Rose. I definitely want to returnRecommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review. A big special thanks for including me on some of your adventures in "Cajun Country"! The sugar cane tour was awesome! Looking forward to seeing you both again in May. Can't wait to take y'all crawfishing!
