1680sq ft., three bedroom two bath chalet older (1971) two-level home with a master bedroom and king-size bed upstairs with river and forest views and TV/DVD with DirecTV/HBO in living room and master and updated appliances and beds. There is a second room upstairs with a queen-size bed. Another bedroom downstairs has two twin beds and TV/DVD only (no DirecTV). This room is across the hall from the downstairs full bathroom. All beds are high quality with down comforters and linens. Hot tub with a view of the river and stars for more relaxation is outside the front deck. A deck near the river and cedar deck next to the hot tub have been installed. There is no dock as the dock washed away and it is a steep sandy bank near the house but the river is accessible on a path along the river about 300 yards south for fishing and hiking access. Dogs can play here as it is a steep sandy bank and can be traversed carefully.

The last two miles to the cabin are on a paved road which is well traveled and plowed in the winter. The home is in a subdivision (Beaver Road District) with homes along the river and has Deschutes National Forest land to the South and river on the west lot lines. The nearest other home is 75 ft north of the cabin.

In the master bedroom there is a bathroom as well as small upper deck with an excellent view of the river and a 24-inch TV with DVD and DirecTV satellite service with 130 channels with including HBO and Portland local channels.

Downstairs there is a living room with leather couch, dining table, and big-screen TV with DirecTV TIVO allowing recording and playback of shows and many movies are already stored on this system for playback. It has as a DVD player and a surround sound reciever with five speakers. Bring your favorite DVD's or rent in nearby Sunriver or Bend. DirectTV with HBO is provided on this television as are local Portland channels.

The kitchen has a retro dining table and new range and dishwasher with Hawaiian theme cocktail glasses, coffee grinder, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, utensils, knives, and Cephalon cookware.

The house has 75' of riverfront with great views of river and two miles of national forest to the south so has easy access to mountain biking, hiking, and fishing right out the door. Great for dogs. Canoeing from the cabin down to the pullout past the Big River Campground and bridge on Century drive takes about an hour and there is a canoe, lifejackets and paddles for guests to use. Canoeing from Lapine State Park (put-in is to the right of the bridge heading to the campgrounds) to Big River is about a 3 hr float. Having two cars for the shuttle is ideal. Wanderlust Tours does great trips locally and google them.

Great wildlife viewing with bald eagles and other wildlife visible from the house and expansive deck. Boats are allowed with a 5mph speed limit and a boatramp is nearby 1 mile downriver (North) at Big River Campground off of S. Century Drive and upriver at LaPine State Park.

There is sunshine 300 days a year in Central Oregon with snow in the winter as it is at 4200' feet elevation and great trout fishing May to October right out the door and nearby Fall River year round for fly fishing only. Great rafting and other activities such as horseback riding can be found four miles away in Sunriver, a full-season resort with shopping village, restaurants, pools, golf, spa, and other amenities. Bend, Oregon is 15 minutes by freeway for more shopping/nightlife.

Why the Owner Chose Fall River

This area of Oregon has skiing, fishing, mountain and rode biking, cross-country skiing, fun nightlife in Bend and Sunriver and is sunny 300 days a year.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

20 minutes to Mt. Bachelor for skiing and on the Big Deschutes river there is fishing right outside the door and this property abuts national forest land so walks along the river are next door and it's a great place for dogs and is very quiet and private at the end of the road in a subdivision along the river.

A
Mt. Bachelor, Oregon

Ski area 19 minutes from the cabin.

B
Paulina and East Lakes

Scenic lakes with huge fish and excellent downhill biking/waterfall swimming on the "Paulina Plunge".

C
Quail Run Golf Course

18 holes of inexpensive (45 instead of 150 at Sunriver) high quality golf.

Owner's Map of Fall River

Professional in high tech that likes to enjoy all the outdoor activities (skiing in particular and mountain biking) in central oregon and the Portland area. Real estate is also a passion.

Wonderful Summer Weekend

Guest: Steve (Portland)
Date of Stay: 08/05/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

We loved staying in this house for a long weekend. The location is magnificent, with great running/walking trails along the river just steps out the front door, and a great hot tub overlooking the river and a view of the stars above. The location is also ideal for going for a float, as you can put in a few hundred yards from the house, and shuttle a car just four miles away. And aside from a few hundred yards of dirt road, it is an excellent location for cycling. Our dog also loved the place, as he had a great trail for sniffing and two nearby beaches for swimming. The house is a bit older, but if you're spending that much time in the house you're doing it wrong. And the steps are fine (even our dog thought that review was being picky). There is a big TV with HBO, an uber-comfortable master bedroom overlooking the river, and a great deck with BBQ. Only downside is it is a bit outside of town. This was the third house we have rented Bend, and it was certainly our favorite.

Very cozy and in a great location. Steps away from the forest and the Deschutes, with a great hot tub to relax in. Interactions with Peter were professional, with quick response times. We had a great visit and the house was the perfect size for our group of 5 plus dog. Thanks again!

Disappointed

Guest: longtime (Wilsonville, Oregon, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/23/08 Review Submitted: 09/30/08

We were disappointed in this place. From the house to the water, the land goes out about 80 feet, and then drops straight down about 25 feet. There are some wooden steps clinging to the vertical face, but they lead to a broken, unusable "boat dock." You have to walk quite a ways to get to a place where you can safely access the water. Inside the house, the stairs up to the second storey are dangerously steep. Even our dogs were afraid to come down them. Also, some "deferred maintenance" needs attention -- such as a wobbly dining table; a silverware drawer that falls out if you're not careful; and a torn, dirty shower curtain. And when we left, all our stuff smelled smoky and musty. On the positive side, there are some pleasant trails that take off right from the property. In some spots along the trail you can see the river, and it is quite beautiful. Also, the location is peaceful and quiet.

Had a great time. Coming in after a day of sledding and skiing to a hot tub and roaring fire in the stove made it perfect. Sledding and trails right out the fron door were a bonus. You felt somewhat remote, but still had houses near by. Would like to go in the summer next.

Stayed for almost a week late July. Really enjoyed the solitude! Accomodations are first class with lots of room to spread out and relax. Lots to see and do with its central location. Fishing right in front of the house was terrific. Added plus was that the owner, Peter, was always available on his phone to answer any questions. Highly recommended!!

My three friends and I used the Cabin as a base camp for a four day fishing trip. The accomodations were fantastic. The rooms were comfortable, the common area was relaxing and the hot tub was great after a long, cold day wading in the rivers. The kitchen facilities were also very nice and we basically cooked all meals except lunch at the Cabin. I recommend staying here. Only drawback is it is about 10-15 minutes from the paved roads, but it is nice to be out on the river when you come home at night. Nothing finer than sitting on the lower deck 5 feet off the river, watching the sun go down.
