Perfect Mountain Retreat
The Nantahala River Lodge is the absolutely perfect mountain retreat! My family travels extensively all over the world staying in various styles of accommodations, from private homes and cabins, tents, ranches and every luxury brand hotel out there. Our best experiences are always the ones in which the accommodation fits the surroundings and atmosphere of the given location. Of course style, comfort, condition and value for price paid also matter as well. The Nantahala River Lodge exceeded our expectations for a mountain home, earning the highest marks on all of the above criteria I mentioned. It was so refreshing to stay in a home that was perfectly maintained in every way and had a story behind it with a sense of history. Of course the Nantahala River in the front yard, less than 50 feet from the house was the icing on the cake. If your are a fly fisherman there could not be a more perfect mountain home for you to rent on the east coast than this one. Not a detail was missed to make it an easy, comfortable, fishing expedition, place inside and out to hang your waders store your boots. The best thing of all of course is there are plenty of fish to catch. My son caught a 24 inch plus 4lb plus brown right in front of the lodge. We will be going back again and again. I almost didn't want to post this review so as to keep this place a secret, but I think the secret is out.

We chose to go to the lodge for our honeymoon. I must of looked at hundreds of cabins/lodges on line before choosing this one and it more than exceeded our expectations. I remember walking in and thinking I had stepped into the pages of Southern Living. Mickey and Annette had put so much thought into every detail. The decor, from the structure to the furnishings, is from reclaimed wood that they used from cabins that had been in their family for many years and the craftsmanship is unbelievable! We had only made reservations for 2 nights and we quickly contacted Annette to see if we could stay an additional night. Annette was so incredibly accommodating and was quick to let us know we were welcome to stay that additional night. These folks go above and beyond when it comes to making certain their guests have everything they need from the very detailed directions on how to get there and get in, to having a kitchen that may have very well been better equipped than my own. I would highly recommend this property! It was very clean and the linens smelled so fresh. And fishing...oh my, if fishing is your thing, this place is a must! You literally could step out the back door and catch dinner. Because sitting on the back deck and watching and listening to the river were so incredibly relaxing and enjoyable, we didn't leave the cabin except to get groceries. This place is literally a little slice of heaven on earth and we are already trying to figure out when we can go back!

Without a doubt the nicest most complete rental available. I have probably rented 10+ cabins in North Ga, Tn and NC. This is by far the best my favorite. Kitchen is well stocked with supplies. Being on the river is a real bonus. Very close to NOC and other destinations. Talked with the owners a couple of times - very pleasant and accommodating. Weather was marginal but cabin was A+.

What a marvelous time we had
Oh, what a marvelous time we had at the River Lodge. My only complaint was that we had to leave after just three days!!! What a beautiful place to connect with my family, with myself and with the beauty of nature. Loved every second of our time there and YES we will return (but it will be for a longer period of time!). Again, our time there was special, and we appreciate all the information you gave us to make our trip such a wonderful one.

Overall our experience was ideal. The luxurious cabin had everything we could have needed and more including bath salts and heated bathrooms for the perfect post-hiking soak. The location may be the most peaceful place on the planet and the intermittent noise of the cars on Wayah Road does not detract at all. The river is so strikingly beautiful, the fishing is great, and the lot is so much fun to explore. Kids and adults were thoroughly pleased. In fact, we liked the lodge more than the beach! It was worth every penny we spent, and Annette was wonderful in all things. Her thoughtful directions included where to stop for groceries on the way in from whichever highway you are coming from. I do recommend bringing groceries in, because it takes a while to get to the towns and restaurants on those little (but so scenic) mountain roads. We can't wait to go back!

Great mountain weekend!!!
Great mountain weekend!!!
My wife and I travel a lot using VBRO and this house is one of the most beautiful locations anywhere we have stayed!!! When you first arrive at this property, you imediately know this is not your average mountain house. This lodge has everything you could want for a family weekend. My wife loved the large open kitchen space and how well stocked it was with pots and excesseries....and she is hard to please! The back porch over looking the river is absolutely gorgeous !!

We stayed at the Nantahala lodge with another couple and our four young children (all under 4). We could not have picked a better place to stay! The property was absolutely amazing! We spent most of our time swimming in the river right behind the house. There was a nice deep place to jump in. We enjoyed tubing down the river, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit, relaxing by the hammock and we even smoked ribs in the outside smoker. We had all the luxuries of home and more! The house itself was beautiful. Annette and Mickey definitely put their heart and soul into the design of that place. It was perfectly sized and designed for our group. We loved the big porches, the fireplace and enjoyed the well stocked kitchen. It is a short drive from Nantahala Outdoor Center and Fontana Dam. Our group was too young for rafting so we spent a day on Fontana Lake on a pontoon boat that we rented. Would definitely recommend it! There is a paved bike/running path within walking distance to the lodge that runs along the river. We enjoyed using it on several occasions. Really we couldn't have asked for a better vacation. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home with us!!

The Nantahala River Lodge was Spectacular
The Nantahala River Lodge was spectacular. We had a great time at the lodge and enjoyed many activities. I marveled how well explained and labeled every appliance light switch and procedure for the home was. You have thought of every possible question that a renter may experience and on top of that explained in detail and without make us feel as if we could not use things. It made using things easier! The grounds, the area, the grandeur are a playground for outdoor people. This is a definite must return again place. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Your Place is Wonderful
I had the privilege of staying at your lodge for three nights with my family. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for making such a beautiful place available for us to enjoy. My only problem was that the stay was nowhere near long enough. Hopefully we will get with you in the future and try to stay longer. Once again your place is wonderful and thank you.

A Treat For Your Eyes and Your Spirit
A Treat For Your Eyes and Your Spirit
We are new to rental experiences, and I must say we are absolutely spoiled now. The location is absolutely picturesque right down to the soothing sound of the rushing water right in your backyard. Mickey and Annette made sure that we had all the information that we needed for our stay. The details that they provide for the your stay as well as their organization are unmatchable. They were super timely, even though we were last minute to book. I would stay there every time, if it were available. We were there with our 2 children ages 10 and 13, as well as our pet. They had so much fun playing on the property, they even forgot about the lack of Internet access! We always worry that if a rental accepts pets, it will not be as clean or nice, but this couldn't be farther from the truth, clearly they are very careful concerning pets, as everything was meticulous and exceptionally clean. Everything was well stocked, and easy to find. Don't forget to read the history of the cabin, as it makes the stay even more fabulous...every detail in the cabin seems to have a story behind it, I could spend all day describing the wonderful decorative touches, but you'll enjoy them more to see for yourself! Enjoy...but leave a vacancy for us...LOL
