About the owner: I enjoy hiking with my dogs, cycling, kayaking, writing books, and sitting of Boards of various environmental organizations such as the Volcan Mountain Preserve and the American Solar Energy Society. I had a long career in engineering and a shorter career in mediation. No, not meditation – mediation where you work with folks to resolve conflicts. I build both the cozy apartment and the nearby home that won the unique SANDEE award for the most energy excellent house in San Diego in 2006. This is a once a year award from the San Diego Energy Center (CCSE). I like to travel a lot both in U.S. and abroad and I haven’t met a wine I don’t like.
Why the Owner Chose Julian:
Actually, I purchased the property after a 6-year search for the best place to retire in the country. I didn’t expect to retire for a decade or so and finished the cozy apartment so that I could stay for weekends until I retired while I rented out the house. I looked at about 50 different locations around the country before choosing Julian and this property. I was impressed by the rural mountain setting with many nearby hiking and cycling destination with access to both desert (about 40 minutes) and ocean (about 70 minutes). I like being able to get to a major city in a little over an hour for that special event. After 17 years, I still think I made a good decision. Now I live in the house and make the apartment available to you at a reasonable price.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
Besides all the reasons to want to be in this unique location, I really like the quiet, the really dark sky for viewing, the southern exposure that allowed both a lovely garden and a solar house. The apartment is the perfect place to live for a couple who want to get away from the hammering they get in the city.
