Kamaole Sands condo description
The important comfort item to be certain to check before you book at Kam Sands is to find out if the bedroom has a separate AC as is the case here with a separate bedroom TV too.
The bedroom is at the end of the hall, which is great for those that wish to stay up late in the Living room/Lanai as the separation is a good noise buffer, but the AC in the living room will not cool the bedroom & trade winds often cease at night.
This unit has the large Lanai, the perfect size for seating up to 8 people for dinner comfortably (bring out 2 chairs). Brazilian granite counters in the kitchen are unusually beautiful, tile floors are cool to the feet, stackable laundry is just off the hall in front of the 2nd bath.
Best recent additions - HDTV + Blu-ray DVD + router so you may access your Netflix type video services. Also 4 inch memory foam mattress topper for the bed, we both enjoy its additional comfort & we have replaced the Living room futon with a fold-out couch we think is more comfortable.
Love the floor plan for that noise separation. The lanai is oriented northwest so the afternoon tropical sun does not beat down on you as it does in west facing Building #1, the only other Building with views that are almost as close to the ocean as our Building. Additional bonus, our lanai faces the sunsets when the summer sun gets toward the horizon!
This is also a good placement for natural cooling with the trade winds as they breeze through with the lanai sliding door open & the security screen door dead-bolt locked (as we often do). Trade winds are much stronger at north Kihei beaches where you'll go to watch kite boarders.

- KamSands has really solid walls, sounds from neighbor condos don't penetrate walls or ceilings but can be heard thru open lanai sliders. Quiet time is 10PM to 8AM If housekeeper places lanai mat on lanai side of slider, it will knock the sliding screen off its track; have had very little success in retraining Houskeepers to place the mat on the L.R. side of the threshold... sa la vie Otherwise Housekeeping is your friend, call them if you experience any situations their staff would be handy with (never end a sentence with a preposition)....moreless

This condo looks exactly like the photos on VRBO. The lanai is one of the larger ones on the property and has a beautiful view. It never gets direct sun so it's nice to sit out on anytime of day. The kitchen and living room are perfectly fine. Nothing overly fancy but everything you could think of is there (except a baking sheet!). The front door and bedroom are very close to the stairs and elevator but in the nine nights we were there, we were never bothered and/or woken by noise. The two bathrooms are clean and functional. If I were to be picky, I found the bedroom a little disappointing. The carpet and curtains are a little dirty, one of the lamps has been broken and glued back together, a piece of the TV is broken and drops onto the floor as soon as you open the dresser. The bed is comfortable and clean. The price is great for this unit. If you are looking for totally renovated suites you'll be paying a lot more. For the price per night, this unit is a great value.

Kamaole Sands in Kihei
Kamaole Sands in Kihei
We (three of us) stayed 11 nights in a property at Kamaole Sands over Christmas. The condo has a great view of the Kamaole 3 beach (across the street) that is afforded by a large lanai (larger than many others) that is always cool because it does not receive direct sunlight (at least not at the holiday season time of year), so it is never too hot. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, has a nice swimming pool as well as two large hot tubs and a kiddie's pool. There is an onsite agent from Expedia who can organize any number of attractions in which you might be interested -- no pressure whatsoever and extremely helpful. The office personnel, security, and cleaning staff were always on site and similarly, extremely helpful. The unit has all the requisite appliances, washer/dryer, televisions and so forth as well as beach chairs for your use. The kitchen is well stocked with pans and dishes etc although no basic condiments were available. We didn't really expect the owners or Kamaole Sands to keep up with those things, so be prepared to head off to one of the food stores (Foodland, Safeway, Times) to pick up the basics. The Master bedroom and ensuite are very comfortable; the fold-out bed okay and probably as comfortable as those ever really get. The second bathroom was a godsend. The unit is very quiet despite its proximity to the elevator. We might have heard someone outside at night once or twice in all that time. A suggestion I would make is that a pull-down blackout blind be installed in the bedroom window because the light outside is never turned off and the curtains do not block the light as well as we would have liked. But, all in all, an excellent spot that is very well maintained in a great complex, located close to everything in Kihei. We would definitely recommend to others and hope to return ourselves.

Could have been a little better.
Could have been a little better.
We have stayed in numerous condo at Kamaole Sands and this one has loads of potential to make it a great place to stay. Starting with the bedroom. Yes it is in the back away from the noise, but the window is right off the elevator door. It's not noisy, but the light out there has to stay on all night, so the bedroom was a little too light for our liking. The 2nd bathroom is a bonus - for sure. Keep in mind that Kam Sands is an older complex and bathroom fixtures are somewhat dated. Kitchen is good, although it was short on oven mitts and place mats. Owner told us to call housekeeping and get some purchased, but we felt this wasn't down to us. Other condos we have stayed in here have had some of the basics already in the kitchen - salt - pepper - spices - oils - that sort of thing. This one does not - which is OK. Bring your own beach mats of chairs - there are none here - which is OK. The lanai is without a doubt the best we have had in this complex, but it does have 1 issue that can be dealt with, but 1 that can't. There is only 1 small wall light out there. You never eat dinner until the sun has gone down, so it's dark out there. Bring your own candle, there weren't any. And you need them or you won't be able to see what you are eating. And as you can see from the pictures from the lanai, there are pools with fountains running from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. You don't really notice the noise they make until they shut off. Then there is beautiful silence that makes conversation a little bit easier. It's just something we felt was a little bothersome. On the whole this is a nice unit, For us, it just needed a bit more attention to detail to get it over the average rating.

Very tastefully decorated, clean, quiet, condo with the best living room air conditioner-if you need it- that we've ever had at a Kamaole Sands condo. The tile floors throughout the main living area, which you don't get in every unit, make it so nice to have in a beach enviroment. The lanai is a large one with a perfect position over the fountain/gardens. The lanai seating is for 6 -which is more chairs than usually available. One thing to note is that is that there are no beach chairs available to use on the beach in this unit, so you will need to purchase them once you arrive in Kihei. We have stayed in several units at K.S. and I would certainly put this one high on the list. Enjoy Maui!

First of all I would highly recommend this unit for the view alone, it is absolutely beautiful. Both Don and Mona are absolutely great to deal with and every thing went smoothly. We are still here at the condo until April 26th and are enjoying every moment. The condo itself could use a little updating, but all in all it is a very nice place to stay. Having a large lanai made it extra nice as we ate all our meals outside. We were close to the barbques if we wanted to do any barbquing. I would definitely recommend this unit for anyone wanting to stay at Kamaole Sands.

Extremely helpful and accomodating!
Extremely helpful and accomodating!
Unfortunately we have had to cancel our trip to Maui due to extenuating circumstances, but I wish to extend my recommedation to both Don & Mona for their accomodating ways. There was absolutely no hassel in cancelling our reservation, and we were refunded no questions asked. Having travelled in the past, I know how stressful it can be when life happens and trip plans must change as a result, but with Don & Mona they made it as quick and painless as possible! I would deffinently recommend this accomodation soley based on the ease and reliability of the owners!

About the owner: Don Heichel Soquel, California- -There are vacations you & your kids will recall; this is a good one. Careful, your brain has receptors that Maui fits perfectly. Those prone to addiction-type behaviors are particularly susceptible, this warning is waaay too late for us. Best from Don, Mona & now adult children Gregory & Monica! BTW, there is one thing under the sun all of us STILL agree on... 'Maui No Ka Oi' which translates Maui is the best!
Why the Owner Chose Kamaole Sands:
Southwest Maui is special even for Maui as the rainfall is less than 6 inches per year so you enjoy tropical warmth with less humidity & almost no flying insects. On our first trip, off to the nearby Grand Wailea Hotel to order sashimi & a beer at an outside table overlooking the ocean and reclined to watch the waves & drink... 5 minutes later had yet to encounter a fly with raw fish sitting on my plate. Later that trip while hiking through a bamboo thicket on the Hana side we looked down to see our legs covered with mosquitoes, what a wake up! If you ever find tropical warmth with almost zero flying insects that accepts USA dollars let me know as that's the basis of a great vacation. Maui is such an enjoyable family vacation... watch the tourists reactions at the airport gate when their flight is called to return home... the whining is overt... that can't be my plane they're calling... my Maui vacation is over, Waaaaaaaaaa!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We call it condo camping; full kitchen, laundry, internet, TV; we've camped in Yosemite & it's not this comfortable while the warm ocean water is far more fun to play in. Morning is for snorkeling, off the beach by 10 or 11 to avoid sunburn, big mid-day meal at the condo, drive where we want for shopping or sightseeing & back to the beach by 4 or so for boogey boarding which sets you up with a great appetite for dinner. Kihei is a town full of Hawaiian locals mixed with tourists featuring movies, Safeway & shopping while Wailea is immediately south for Golf & upscale shopping/restaurants with a selection of great hotels to explore with a beach walk & more snorkeling opportunities. Extreme south Kihei is a unique location: the sand is finer, the wind is milder, the rain less, the big hotels newer, the snorkeling is so good that the Maui Dive Shop brochure highlighting the best snorkel locations omits mentioning Turtle-town (the first right turn south of Maui Prince Hotel where their boats go after boring Molikini), or Makena Landing [lost count of the Turtles we encountered last time we snorkeled there, but saw a group of 5 turtles on 6-28-12]... & the rates are very competitive). World class vacation - Tough to beat...
