Barga villa description
Alventura has been described as 'staying in your own boutique villa'. Nestled in 10 acres of private woodland, landscaped gardens and olive terraces the villa feels secluded but is within 1 mile of the beautiful hill top town of Barga. Alventura has been traditionally restored with luxury and space in mind and has a traditionally Tuscan yet contemporary feel.
The 3 on suite bedrooms are spacious, each with spectacular views over the Apuane and Appenine mountains. The ground floor bedroom has its own private balcony, the 2 upstairs rooms have adjoining sitting rooms offering extra privacy for couples and extra beds for families. Each bedroom has its own individually designed bathroom with large shower and/or bath. Locally produced Tuscan toiletries compliment the bathrooms.
The large kitchen is equipt with quality knives, kitchenware, utensils and crockery. Its open plan design leads into the comfortable lounge for relaxing, listening to music (amplifier for your music) or watching Satellite TV. We also have a playstation and dvd player. Large French doors lead out to the shaded terrace which overlooks the mountains and pool. The villa enjoys sunshine from early morning, perfect for those who enjoy an early morning dip in the pool, until late afternoon. There are plenty of quiet spots in the garden to relax on the loungers either in the sun or under a pergola shaded with kiwi, wisteria or under an olive tree. Overlooking the pool is a shaded, paved terrace, perfect for aperitivos. The pretty courtyard also offers alfresco dining. Woodland walks to Barga from the villa offer spectacular views and take just 30-60 mins.
Upon arrival, you will be met by the owners who live nearby and who are on hand to turn your villa rental into a more personal, pampered holiday with a number of optional extras .Your arrival will also be welcomed with a complimentary basket of goodies to help you settle in without having to dash to the shops. Having worked many years in hospitality and as tour guides in Tuscany your hosts are well qualified.
The hilltop town of Barga has been voted one of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy. It is a vibrant town with the old part still encircled by fortress walls. There is plenty to keep you occupied with many art galleries, museums, antiques, great choice of restaurants, ice cream shops, cafe's, butchers, bakers, florists, fruit and vegetable vendors, food markets, monthly antiques markets and yearly festivals. Outdoor concerts can be found in the old town throughout the summer months, June; Piazetta music festival, July; opera and August; jazz.
In the local area there are many natural wonders to explore, Orecchiella national park, renowned for its mass of wild flowers, Orrido di Botri, a small natural canon dug by the torrent Fegana into the rocks. Grotta del vento caves have the largest network of caves in Italy and the Ponte della Maddalena above the Serchio river, also called the Devil's Bridge dating back to the 10th century.
Barga is an excellent base for exploring Tuscany's cultural cities. Lucca, the only city in Italy with a completely intact encircling wall, is 40 minutes by train or car. Its totally pedestrianised within the walls, making sightseeing a relaxing experience. Hiring bikes and cycling around the city walls is fun for everyone. Florence is 2 hours, and speaks for itself. The Cinque Terra is in reach, by train or car 2 hours.

My wife searched high and low for the perfect homes for our extended stay in Italy celebrating our 30th anniversary. Villa Adventura was one of the homes we selected and we were not disappointed. After spending some time with just my wife in the Florence area, we invited our adult children to join us and share the adventure at Villa Adventura. We loved the feel of being entirely to ourselves in our own mountain home yet being so close to the adventures of real Italian life in Barga and Lucca. The home was comfortable and the setting was gorgeous. The various outside sitting areas overlooking the mountains were perfect for our morning and evening family meals. The pool was fun and refreshing. The flowers and landscaping were wonderful. Anne, the owner, was truly a joy to work with. She was helpful in so many areas to us, not only in our efforts to pick the right home and how to do it (this was our first adventure to Italy), but also when we arrived and needed guidance. We went to the Cinque Terre with Anne as our guide and had a blast. I have read the other reviews and I would agree with everything they said. The photo’s are just as we remember it. A car was a great asset so that our adventures to the surrounding areas could be spontaneous. Anne suggested two small cars rather than a big van – the roads are curvey and narrow – we were glad we took her advice. Not only did we manage the driving, we really enjoyed the thrills of being on our own. The town of Barga was fun, welcoming and not filled with tourist. While Sienna was a must see for us when we were staying in Florence, we equally enjoyed Lucca, a 45 minutes drive away from the home. The shopping, the restaurants, the bike rides on the wall of the town and the atmosphere was wonderful. The home, the area, and the host helped us to make a 28 year dream of visiting Italy a perfect reality. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice to stay at Villa Aventura.

The Highlight of Our Vacation!
The Highlight of Our Vacation!
One of the best choices we made in planning our 3 week vacation in Italy was booking Villa Alventura! Our group of 3 couples did a lot of research to find the perfect villa and the helpful advice of owner Anne prior to booking was the deciding factor in making our choice. With a GPS and good instructions we were able to find our way from Florence airport where we had rented our van. On arrival we all fell in love with our new home with the amazing views and Tuscan feel. We appreciated the little touches like fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, and washcloths! Every couple was happy with their spacious bedroom/bathroom and we couldn’t wait to enjoy the pool and many outdoor seating areas with amazing views. We got groceries at the nearby supermarket and spent the next day just enjoying the villa; one of our best days! We were fortunate to be able to enjoy the pool in late September. I had reservations about being so far from central Tuscany but in hindsight it was nice to be in a less touristy area. We took a day trip to Lucca and biked on the wall; spent a day exploring in Barga; took a cooking class in our villa arranged by Anne; explored the local wine route; and took a day trip to Cinque Terre (I highly recommend you let Anne guide you as we did). As much as we enjoyed these outings, we found we were always eager to get back “home”! I would recommend you have your own vehicle, however I do think you could book this villa and just tour with Anne as she provides airport transfers and many options for exploring the area. Don’t forget to spend some time just living “la Bella Vita” at Villa Alventura and in the lovely town of Barga!

Heaven on Earth!
Heaven on Earth!
For one week in September, three couples lived “la bella vita”, the beautiful life, in this luxury villa near Barga, Lucca Province, Tuscany. This villa has been impeccably and tastefully renovated to blend old work Tuscan style with modern amenities. The pictures really do not do it justice! The well maintained villa is situated in an ideal location, close enough to walk to Barga, yet in a peaceful, bucolic setting. Anne, the villa owner, went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and pampered from the moment she met us at the airport in Pisa to our last evening at the villa. The highlights of our vacation include a day trip to Florence accompanied by Anne, hiking along the scenic trail to Barga to enjoy fabulous views of the village and surrounding area, exploring Barga's winding streets, fabulous restaurants, and shops, and a private cooking lesson with Linda, a local chef, who taught us how to prepare a Tuscan feast incorporating fresh and delicious local produce. We absolutely loved our stay at this charming villa, and instantly felt at home and well taken care of by our very friendly and knowledgeable hostess, Anne, who went above and beyond her professional duty. I only wish our stay could have lasted longer!

Amazing Week in Tuscany Villa
Amazing Week in Tuscany Villa
In planning our trip to Italy we really wanted to not have the 'tourist' experince, but tp get a real flavor for the country. Finding this place made for a wonderful experience. Our stay in this Villa outside of Barga couldnt have gone better. For sure the Villa made the trip amazing. It is even more beautiful than the pix. We had 6 adults, plenty of space and the the view and the pool was amazing. Full kitchen, fantastic layout and hiking paths right from the villa. The owners are so helpful and did a fantastic job renovating. So much detail-just great. The location was very conventient to Lucca, Florence and we even hired Anne (the owner) as our guide for Cinque Terre. Barga, a charming walled city with nice shops and great resturants, was 90 seconds up the road by car. We were 10 days in Italy, but he 7 we spent as this villa was just heaven! Coming back from a long day of touring to this place to recharge and relive the days adventures was just perfect. Our familiy has had the good fortune to travel a great deal and stayed in many different types of places. This was easily one of our best trips and we would come back here without any hesitation.

About the owner: We live and work In Barga,Tuscany with our two little girls. We moved here in 2003 and have completely restored the villa in between working as a walking holiday guide and bringing up the girls..Before we moved here,we travelled around the world, working and playing for ten years, mostly in the tourist industry, catering chalets in various ski resorts in Europe and North America. Finally we are ready with our own business to look after our own clients! We live close enough to the villa to help you get the most out of your holiday, but far enough away for you to enjoy your own privacy.
Why the Owner Chose Barga:
After searching the length and breadth of Tuscany, we found this region (garfagnana) to be the most beautiful area for both holidaymakers and for a young family. It isnt as touristy as other regions and its very well located for city visits, hilltop towns, beaches, and skiing. Barga is a very up and coming, vibrant town with many festivals through the summer, including art , music, food, and theatre. The climate is perfect, without such intense heat as the lower tuscan regions. Its a place to really experience italy at its best. We have many years of experience in both the food world and the travel industry, and having lived and worked for many years in Tuscany we feel we can share the culture, history, cuisine and hospitality of Tuscany in a relaxed and informal manner.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The villa is coveniently situated just one mile from Barga. We have restored and decorated the villa in a traditional way but with a slight contemporary twist. If you like to walk, Barga can be reached on foot from the villa, along a choice of two woodland paths taking in stunning views..Having worked as a tour guide in Tuscany for 3 years, we are also keen to offer guided walking, escorted city/coastal/country day trips, with itineraries to suit your interests.Whether it be food, art, local traditions or just enjoying spectacular scenery. We can book restaurants or dinners in the villa, babysitting and airport transfers.
