In addition to choosing this rental based on it's location to prime birding areas, I highly rely on reviews. I agree with previous reviewers that it is a lovely place to stay. The amenities are top notch and we could not ask for more. Karen is a pleasure to deal with, she cheerfully and promptly will answer any questions one has. We enjoyed birding some of our favorite hot spots all of which were within an easy drive. We also visited Paton's house in Patagonia which I highly recommend for you bird lovers. During our stay we visited a couple of the wineries, which turned out to be quite a treat. We purchased local wine and sipped it as we enjoyed the sunsets at the house. Star gazing and watching for satellites was fun too. One night we were lucky enough to see the ISS orbiting (a great little app on my phone directed us). We tried the pizza at Velvet Elvis but found the crust not to our liking, it wasn't crunchy. They did make some delicious potato soup though. Tipped off by one of the winery owners we decided to try Pizzeria Mimosa in Hereford. It was a bit of a trek just for pizza but it was very good. Mostly, we cooked in at the house. Grilling didn't turn out to well for us because of the high winds. In fact, one night into the morning was extremely windy and cold. Thank goodness for the working fireplace. It was a wonderful vacation filled with sunrises, sunsets, rest and relaxation. I definitely would return here and rent again given the opportunity.

Owner response: We're so happy that you found the stay to be a birding success. It is sort of a "baring of the soul" to put our properties up for rental, so it's especially nice when people are truly pleased. It's great that you were able to enjoy some of the local attractions as well as the prime birding areas. Our region really does have much to see and do if you look below the surface and enjoy the natural beauty, as you seem to have discovered quite nicely. Hope to see you again soon!

Nice location. Road is rough. Need patio chairs in front to enjoy evening sun. Good shopping and dining in Sierra Vista 20 miles away. Cold and windy but that's not your fault. Owners are friendly and helpful.

We've been spending at least a couple of weeks in SE Arizona every January for the past 14 years. Over that time we've lodged at a half dozen different places. This place is by far our favorite for many reasons. The location can't be beat as this is not only a great launching pad to head in every direction but it also comes with great views. We travel with dogs and this is the perfect set up with fenced in rear yard but also private acreage and adjoining BLM for hiking to stretch everybody's legs. We didn't spend much time there during the day but did have over a dozen species of birds visit the back yard. The place is well appointed, tidy inside and out and super clean. Bedding and linens top shelf. Everything you need is here, just pick up some food and move in. The bedrooms are large as is the living space. Plenty of room for two couples as you can always find getaway space. We have our reservation for next year! Karen made sure our stay was first class.

We are birding enthusiasts and this is a wonderful location at the nexus of some of the best birding locals in Southeast Arizona. Even though the mercury was dipping well below zero most nights, we were able to attract some local residents right to our litte hideaway with a bit of bird seed. The actual accommodations are excellent, well maintained, well-appointed and exactly as we expected from the listing. Birding wise, we had a brilliant visit to the local preserve (Patagonia-Sonoita) and actually say a male Elegant Trogon who sat around for about 15 minutes while we snapped about 50 photographs from every angle. We also caught a slumbering Western Screech Owl there. We were blown away by Whitewater Draw and the cranes and all of the other winter residents. We didn't manage to get the Harris's Hawk that we hoped to see on our hawk trek through Sulphur Valley and neighbouring locales but we sure saw many, many others. We will definitely visit again. We needed at least 3 or 4 weeks to do the area justice.

We stayed here for a week over Christmas 2012. This is a lovely house, beautifully decorated and fully equipped including a great kitchen and wonderfully relaxing bedrooms. The nearest neighbours feel a million miles away as it was so peaceful, and there are great views from every window. The house was a terrific base for day trips as all the attractions are within easy reach and there are some great walks to be had close to home so plenty to do even though it was hard to tear myself away from sitting in the garden wrapped up and just staring at the views. Karen is a pleasure to deal with, we came to the house from the UK and it couldn't have been easier to get the booking sorted with her etc. I met her briefly during my stay and she is a lovely lady who couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. Getting me to leave was not easy!

It was probably not the best birding time of year to visit SE Arizona, but putting out birdseed and water every night proved successful! We saw many wonderful species right out our window. The cottage is centrally located so that we easily drove from there to either Patagonia or Sierra Vista on each day of our 8-day stay. The cottage itself was marvelous, comfortable, and very sweet. We did all our cooking and eating "in" and the kitchen was perfect!

Hubby and I stayed eight nights for our 20th anniversary, and we loved every minute of it. We visited a winery and nature preserves; went to a craft beer festival; and spent a lot of time just hanging around the house, watching birds and looking at stars. Highly recommend La Casita Restaurant in Sierra Vista, the Copper Queen Hotel dining room in Bisbee, and the Velvet Elvis (for gourmet pizza) in Patagonia. Karen was really friendly and easy to work with. The house was really comfy and had everything we needed.

We just returned from our first visit to Arizona's wine country. We were pleased to find a property that welcomed our dogs and was truly set up to deal with dogs including a fenced yard. The house is easy to find and situated on 20 picture-perfect acres. Sitting out at night looking at the stars and enjoying some of the local wines made for a very relaxing weekend. Karen (the owner) was a pleasure to deal with and we'll definitely be back.

My wife and I were thrilled when we arrived at this house after climbing up the rustic road through the grassland hillside. It was night and and our look back over the wine country was endless as were the stars overhead. Our daughter and her friends were not arriving until the next day, and we couldn't wait for them to see it and experience it. The views are inspiring and the house is beautifully decorated and dog friendly. There are even dogfood bowls and a pet bed. The hosts clearly have tried to make this a destination you can melt into and not want to leave.

This home is a perfect way to enjoy the beauty of Southern Arizona. The house is very comfortable with spectacular views for both sunrise and sunset. We felt wonderfully remote while only minutes from town. I look forward to the next occasion that will bring me down to the wine country and this cozy house in the grasslands!

About the owner: This is our second vacation rental home which we market exclusively on VRBO. We have met so many nice people from all over the world who have stayed at our other home, and are hoping this new one will be equally popular. My husband and I have lived in the Sonoita/Elgin area for 20 & 30 years respectively and are brokers in a local real estate firm. We enjoy boating, fishing & camping with our three dogs so are happy to create properties which are dog-friendly. My husband is a team roper who participates in local events as well as having been on the Senior Pro Rodeo circuit. We hope you will come out to this wonderful part of the southwest and experience what we have found here.

                              Why the Owner Chose Patagonia:
The Sonoita/Elgin Valley has remained unspoiled & undeveloped & it's beauty is unsurpassed. With this home's location on 20 acres at the base of the Mustang Mountains & the peak which is locally called 'The Biscuit', the views are amazing. With easy access to the paved Elgin Road & Highway 82, the location is perfect for exploring all that this region has to offer.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
This property is a nature-lover's dream with unlimited hiking, biking & riding opportunities just through the private gate. Photographers & birders will absolutely love it. The privacy & mountain & valley views are sure to 're-boot' your soul. When you feel the need for community you can dash into Sonoita or Patagonia for a bottle of wine, groceries, or to visit the restaurants & art galleries. Tucson & Sierra Vista are close at hand as well as Tombstone & Bisbee to round out your southwest adventure.
