We had a 2 couples and 6 singles in our party for the two weeks we stayed at the Bamboo House. It was everyone’s first time in San Pedro. There are lots of accommodation options on this long, narrow caye. We chose the Bamboo House primarily for location, ability to accommodate a large group, and value for money. The house is on the lagoon side about ½ mile past the bridge to the ‘north island’. The north island seems to still be in development mode and is a little more rustic than south of San Pedro. The road is a bit on the rough side but you get accustomed to dodging potholes. There’s a market store just north of the bridge with all the necessities. There are also a fair number of small bars/restaurants in the immediate area (Legends, Pirates Treasure, Jolly Roger, Coco Loco, Felize and, our favorite, Palapa which is a local legend). We’d often ask Edwin to drive us to town for supplies or to drop us off for the day but, with 10 people, renting our own golf cart made some sense too. Note there’s a $10B round-trip charge for rented golf carts going over the bridge. It was nice having the option of Camilla cooking our meals, as eating out can be quite expensive on Ambergris Caye. Camilla was accommodating in terms of preparing local dishes or our requests. Lillian was friendly and thorough in cleaning the rooms every day. Edwin was always available and accommodating... cleaning the pool, looking after any issues, etc. He also teed up a couple of great boat excursions with a fabulous father/son duo, Sullivan and Arnold.... we went snorkeling, fishing, and to Caye Caulker with them. The master suite on the 2nd level is certainly the nicest bedroom. The rooms on the ground floor rely on AC for air movement while the palapa room relies solely on the natural breeze. Some folks will take issue with no hot water and lack of water pressure in most of the sinks. If Bertrand can figure that out, he’ll appeal to a wider clientele. That said, if you’re looking for other accommodations in San Pedro, confirm AC and hot water, as lots of places won’t have one or the other. The Bamboo’s two dogs, Boudha and Banane, were lovable from day one and would often escort us on beach walks. Renting a house may not be for everyone.... buying the food and consumables might be considered a bit of a hassle and the closeness may not work for everyone. But there are pro’s and con’s to staying in a hotel too. Value for money, the Bamboo House is a good choice in San Pedro.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Arrived with a group of 9 for a week in San Pedro. Although we arrived the day after the rest of our group, we quickly learned what a great place we had chosen. Edwin, the house manager who lives on site, and Camilla the housekeeper/cook were so great to have around. Edwin made sure we were well taken care of and helped facilitate our tours to several sites in Belize. He was available when we needed him and busy maintaining the property when we left him alone! Because we chose not to rent a golf cart for the week, he made sure I had a bicycle any time I needed it to ride to the market or sightsee. Camilla made sure our rooms were as neat and tidy as any good hotel would expect and she cooked too! I loved that she was excited to show us how to make Belizian meals...wonderful stewed chicken, rice and beans, fried plantains, fresh tortillas. There are several rooms at the house and we had one on the ground floor at first. The AC worked great but we got no natural breeze so when we had the chance to move upstairs we took a room next to the common room which was bright, clean and beautiful (well, all the rooms were bright, clean and beautifully decorated but, I liked being upstairs!) I loved the two dogs who live at the house, Boudha and Banane, they adopted all of us right away and even took a long walk up the beach with me and my husband one day! What you see in the pictures of the house is accurate, what you don't see is the great service and warmth of the people who take care of you there!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a lovely stay at Bamboo House. We arrived right in the midst of Hurricane Ernesto, but the staff managed to get all the water out and prepare us a delicious welcoming meal nonetheless. Way too much space for us (perfect for families/a group of friends/several couples), but we loved the private pool and Edwin, the house manager, made our visit. Everything is as shown in the pictures - very chic, very clean, with a very friendly staff. Yes, no hot water, but if your trip is anything like ours, you'll be too sunburnt to deal with hot water anyways (and the open shower style feels very tropical/luxurious). Things to know: cook makes delicious fried fish (you pay for your own food, aside from a welcome meal), and Edwin knows where to go to get fresh fish right off the docks. You get a ride into town via golf cart each day if you would like it (we didn't find out until the last day or two, but it made our lives much easier), although I'd recommend a golf cart of your own - it's a fun way to explore the island. Overall, our stay was amazing, and we were very sad to leave. I would recommend Bamboo House to everyone. Go to the hookah/tiki bar right down the beach - couches on the sand and inner tubes so you can drink fruity beverages in the ocean. Go on the Crocodile Tour with Vince (Cannot recommend this enough - we had a blast) - ACES. Finally, get to know everyone. San Pedro is such a friendly place (and everyone knows/loves Bertrand Boulant, house owner), so chat with the locals and see what they recommend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We just got back from spending four nights in the Bamboo House (3 couples). The house was more then enough room for all of us, there were 2 bedrooms we didn't use. The contact for the property is Samiyyah, who was extremely helpful with all of the details about the house as well as recommendations for restaurants and tours and had a cab waiting for us at the airport to take us to the house. The pictures of the house are accurate, it is very nice with great views. It is a little over a mile north of San Pedro town- about a $20 cab ride each way or it is safe to walk in to town- the road just has a lot of potholes filled with water so it can be messy. The property manager, Edwin, was also very nice and helped with whatever we needed once we were there. Overall it is a great location and is very nice because it has a kitchen, pool, and decks. The one downside was the shower water was cold, but I think this is a common problem to many houses and properties in Belize. I would recommend this house to someone staying on Ambergris Caye because it is very nice and a good cost effective alternative to a hotel.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Lindsey on behalf of everyone here at BamBoo House! Sharing has been a great experience for us too. We love that people love the house and guests have even helped us find a few ways to add an extra touch, like the air conditioning now on the ground floor. As our way of saying thanks, we’re doing a free Raffle at the end of the year, for Round Trip Air Fare + 4 Nights Hotel Accommodations in Paris, FRANCE, for all previous guests of BamBoo House!
