Six of my girlfriends and I went to the cabin last June for a girl's weekend away. From the moment I reached out to book the cabin, I was treated so kindly by the owner. We fell in love from the moment we walked in! The pictures do not do it justice, it exceeded our expectations. The kitchen is fully stocked, the rooms spacious and property itself absolutely beautiful. We planned to go to the lake on Saturday afternoon but ended up staying at the cabin all day because we loved it so much! The care package upon arrival was a nice touch.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Great Week in the Snow

My wife and three children recently returned from our week in the snow. It was one of the best vacations our family has ever experienced and the main reason was the comfortable, family friendly cabin. The entire process from reserving the cabin to locking up was simple and stress free. The cabin itself is fairly new with comfortable furniture and a well stocked kitchen. I am the cook in the family and especially enjoyed the gas stove to cook our New Year's Eve dinner. The kids were able to make a sled run right next to the house and enjoyed themselves immensely. We had friends come/go with their kids and we never felt cramped. The large snow storm the day prior to our arrival had knocked down the power lines which blocked the road and the cabin owner went out of her way to meet us to ensure we got to the cabin safely. She also had the driveway de-icer turned on to melt the ice. The driveway is rather steep, and without a 4x4 I would not attempt it in the winter without the de-icer on. Our hope with this rental was to find a cabin (and owner) that we liked so we could return year after year in both the winter and summer. We have found that place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This cabin is absolutely gorgeous! We had a fabulous 11 day stay in this beautiful home. The sleeping arrangements worked perfect for all the adults and children. So much fun playing foosball, pool and lots of card games on the lovely deck! The furnishings are so comfortable and truly made the evenings relaxing. The use of the large garage was perfect for storing our fishing boat and an extra car too! The cabin is immaculate and very well maintained. The owners are very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. We had such a wonderful time and are already making plans to return to this lovely home in the "big trees." We would highly recommend this property to relatives and friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is one great house and a great owner to match. Everything about the house was above expectations. The house is nice and very clean. Convienient to Arnold grocery, and resturants( eat at the Italian place. Didn't know Murphy(the town) had a much better choice of shops ,and places to eat , until we left. We wondered where the air conditioner was located, because it got hot in the house (82) and did not cool till late. No air conditioning is what they told us. This would be fine, but it was extremely hot when we visited.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Mike, I was honored to have you and your family as our guest, coming all the way from TN. Happy to hear you enjoyed the place, and am sorry you had to experience the unusual heat spell. Hopefully the ceiling fans gave you a bit of relief. Thanks again for choosing our place to spend your week long vacation! Kindly, Julie

We are just back from staying at this fantastic house. Two families, including six kids all fitted in easily. The house is incredibly clean, spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The welcome bag was a great touch. Everything we needed was available and Julie was very helpful with getting the drive cleared fast after a huge snowfall. Near to grocery store and gas station. Great weekend, we will definitely be back! Thank you.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This cabin is absolutely fabulous. I had the opportunity of staying over a weekend in January 2012. The cabin is very well layed out and is open and spacious; very comfortable and big enough for a large family or group of friends. It has an overall great "feel to it". There are bedrooms (one even with bunk beds) and bathrooms spaced out amongst two stories which makes it perfect for everyone to have access to bathrooms and multiple bedrooms and not be in each others way. The amenities were unspared and each room is bright and beautifully decorated. From the bedding and furniture to the towel racks, everything is upscale. There are large windows throughout which look out to the beautiful trees and snow surrounding the entire cabin. There is also a nice deck along the front and the back side. Inside is a beautiful gas fireplace surrounded with rock hearth, that gives warmth and a peacefulness. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and a deck outside the sliding glass doors which was nice to be able to go out to. Plenty of seating and comfortable couches were also a plus. The kitchen contains everything we needed to cook 3 meals a day with every amenity and extras provided. There was a very nice, large kitchen table for meals and to sit around with the fire going nearby. The cabin was warm and insulated very well. There is a drive in garage with direct access to inside, which was great for unloading and storing ice chests, ski equipment, toys, etc. There is a beautiful game room with tables and couches, lots of games and a pool table upstairs. The cabin is clean and delightful. I only wish we could have stayed longer to thoroughly enjoy all it had to offer. The skiiing is close and so is a trip to Big Trees for a hike and the quaint and always interesting town of Murphys. A beautiful area with lots to do and an absolutely wonderful place to stay with your family or friends. I give this cabin AAAAA+. I would definitely go back again in the future.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: We believe that quality family time is one of the most important values in life. Because of this, we wanted to create a home away from home, where we could enjoy each other without daily distractions. This is what brought us to the idea of owning a cabin in Big Tree's. We take much pride in our vacation home and are hoping others will experience the same gratitiude we feel everytime we visit. This purchase didn't come easy... the seed was planted in our minds when we were first married in 1987. It took many years of hard work before we could afford to create our 'perfect' home away from home. We hope you will remember this with care, as you enjoy your stay.
Why the Owner Chose Dorrington:
We chose the Big Tree's area as our place to purchase a cabin because the area is not over comercialized or populated, beautiful nature surrounds, and it's easy to get to from the Bay Area. As a family we enjoy renting snow-mobiles at Lake Alpine. Also the skiing at Bear Valley Ski Resort is very family friendly and affordable.
