Writing this review on the last day of a wonderful 2-week family vacation. 10 of us including 4 children stayed at Paul's house and there was plenty of room. Everything that is described in the ad and more is here in the house. Things like laundry, hand and dishwasher soap, toilet paper, paper towels, spices, rice, peanut butter, salad dressings, hot dog and hamburger fixins, coffee, tea, sugar etc all provided. The pool was great keeping the kids occupied if they didn't want to walk 5 minutes to one of the best snorkelling and boarding beaches. Paul was never too far away as he kept the pool clean and took out the garbage! Definitely recommend to anyone especially a group of 8-10 is perfect. Great location, great weather the whole 2 weeks (rained twice at night), perfect holiday, thanks Paul!!

Date of Stay: 02/15/12 Review Submitted: 03/03/12

We stayed at Paul's Almost Perfect Pool House as an extended family of 8 adults (4 couples). The property was exactly as described, if not better. Ammenities and floorplan left nothing to be desired and plenty of privacy and elbow room for all 8 of us. At no point during our stay did we say "I wish..." except for maybe "I wish I lived here...". House and grounds were quite clean. Beach gear and linens were well stocked. On-site laundry made packing light easy! Double kitchens were perfect for holding our massive shopping haul from Costco and allowed us to not have to make multiple shopping trips. We enjoyed everything; the awesome pool, hottub, gas grill, separate bathrooms, family rooms and cool slate floors. Location is perfect, about 30-40 minutes to airport/Costco, short 5 minute walk to beaches and 2-3 mile walk to town. The gracious owner Paul checked in to make sure everything was going well and provided flexibility in our arrival/departure. Our trip wouldn't have been as fabulous without renting this house. We sincerely hope we can go again! Thank you Paul!!! You won't be sorry renting this house for your Kona vacation :)

Big Island family vacation

Guest: Sara C.
Date of Stay: 11/18/11 Review Submitted: 12/07/11

Our family: Grandparents, sons, wives, and four grandchildren loved staying at Paul's Almost Perfect Magic Sands Home, for 9 days. The accommodations were very good. Loved being able to make meals at home when we wanted, swimming in the pool or using the hot tub, and being able to walk to a beach near by. Paul came by every few days to make sure that everything was moving along smoothly. My husband and I stayed on for an additional 10 days, missed the grandchildren. Paul's place is centrally located for visiting the Big Island, hope to do it again in the near future.

Paul's place provided us with a perfect Hawaiian vacation

Guest: Fozz (Portland, OR USA)
Date of Stay: 08/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/30/11

We stayed for 2 weeks at Paul's house with 11 people, six adults, 4 kids and one infant. All that time we never felt like we were on top of each other, the pool and hot tub gave the kids plenty to do and the kitchens were more than adequate for eating just about every meal at home. Walk to the boogie boarding beach, short drive to the snorkel beach. Two big screen TV's and two living rooms for when people don't want to be doing the same thing. Paul was great too. We had a showerhead that wasn't working properly, it was replaced the same day we brought it to his attention. All of us came away thinking that we had found the best place we could think of for our vacation. It even has an ocean view for when you don't want to walk the block and half to the beach to watch the sunset.

July 2011

Date of Stay: 07/06/11 Review Submitted: 07/21/11

Grandma and Grandpa, along with children, spouses and grandchildren, have just returned from a wonderful stay in Paul's Almost Perfect Pool House!! The listing description was accurate and everything was more than adequately stocked. There are two kitchens in the house, one up and one down, and more than enough dishes, utensils, etc. The linen closets were well supplied with everything from bath and bedding linnens to a huge supply of beach towels. Everything was clean and well-maintained. It was nice to have two washers and dryers for our large group. Paul has many beach items to use--chairs, boogie boards, etc. and it is an easy walk to Magic Sands Beach where everyone spent much of their time. Paul was very helpful with any questions we had and also supplied a list of restaurants in the area although we prepared the majority of our meals. I would certainly recommend this property to others. Just as further information, all of the bedrooms have window air conditioners but all the commons areas are cooled with ceiling fans--lots of them. It can get a tad bit warm in July but the pool is just steps away and very refreshing.

We had our first family vacation in Hawaii this year (2010) with a great mix of 8, one being 7month pregnant, a toddler, grandparents, in-laws empty nesters, and a bachelor. We had set modest expectations - knowing it would be a cheaper step up from a hotel. WOW. The house exceeded our expectations! The photos don't really depict the size and space for this home, or the location. We each had our own SPACIOUS room, bathroom, air con, tv and the free long distance and wireless made everyone able to enjoy their stay without feeling cramped. The house is sound proofed so no one heard the baby crying at 3 am, or late night drinks and movies happening downstairs. We spent every morning and evening with a dip in the pool and hot tub, and loved we could walk down to the beaches, or take a quick 8 minute drive to 'downtown KailuaKona' for shopping and dinning. The house was filled with appliances, linens and more pillows than a pregnant woman can dream of. There were plenty of books and travel guides, and Pauls helpful tips came in very handy. The house was very clean, again, beyond our honest expectations. We all enjoyed being at home away from home where the appliances were newer than ours from the fridges, pots and pans, and freakin' huge tv's!! It made coming home a little sad! For a group of friends, or extended family like ours - this was perfect. We were able to all sit down for a couple of meals together, or do our own thing without feeling we were in each others space. In fact, Grandpa had a sinus infection and spent a lot of time relaxing - no one else got sick, and he was able to get plenty of the rest he needed even during the day while we were our soaking up some sun and fun in the big (deep) pool. It was such an affordable and fun vacation for all of us, we are already talking about coming back with more family in the following years, after the new baby of course! Thanks Paul!!!! It really was a perfect pool house near Magic Sands (a sandy beach) Beach. (we should also mention that awesome snorkeling beach only 3 minutes the other direction where turtles, eels and other underwater delights swam in the shallow waters. Paul’s Almost Perfect Pool House was just perfect for our family vacation

Guest: Bill (Canada)
Date of Stay: 11/06/10 Review Submitted: 11/20/10

Paul’s Almost Perfect Pool House was just perfect for our family vacation. It was nice to relax in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by a tropical landscape. The four spacious bedrooms were just right for our family: 2 couples and 2 singles. Having AC in the bedrooms was great. Paul is obviously proud of his pool house and keeps it very well maintained. It’s clean and there are virtually no bugs (maybe the house gecko looks after those). There’s a TV in every bedroom and in both the upstairs and downstairs living areas. There’s no shortage of kitchen supplies with more pots, pans and dishes you could possibly need. A 5-minute walk to the busy Magic Sands beach which is small but offers reefs on either side for great snorkelling and fine white sand in between. We really appreciated having 6 beach chairs, 6 beach mats, 4 boogie boards and lots of towels available to take to the beach with us. Our contribution: a handy beach umbrella. We all enjoyed swimming in the pool and soaking in the hot tub. The barbecue worked great for everything from burgers to a stuffed turkey! It was nice to have laundry facilities too. The KTA grocery store is only a 5-10 minute drive to the South as is the centre of Kailua-Kona to the North. Paul is friendly and anxious to make his guests feel at home. He’s happy to stay and chat or leave you alone. Paul, thanks for the opportunity to use your home for our family vacation! Bill, Heather, Steve, Lauren, Ryan and Michelle

Paul's House was terrific. The house was exactly as advertised. The walk to White Sands Beach was just a stroll from the house and a perfect location to watch the beautiful Hawaiian sunset as well as an ideal place to boogie board. We were a group of 6 and the four bathrooms were perfect. The size of the kitchen/dining area was spacious and accommodating. Paul was an incredibly hospitable host (thanks for fish!!). The pool and hot tub were the perfect ending to a long day of exploring the island. Comfortable beds, wonderful decor, great laundry facilities....I miss Paul's House!!

Aloha, Paul! Thank you for providing wonderful accomodations while we visited the Big Island for our family reunion. Your house was perfect for us! The kids loved the pool, and all of the adults loved the spa. Our stay on the island was so comfortable knowing we had our "home" to return to every evening. My 4 yr old referred to the house as "our Hawaii home"! That's exactly how it felt. You had everything we needed already supplied. Our boys loved walking down to Magic Sands Beach every day. The convenience to town was great. Thanks again. We truly enjoyed our visit and the splendid accomodations you provided. We look forward to the possibility of doing business with you again in the future!

We just got back from a 10 day stay and our group was very comfortable in Paul's house. The four bedrooms and four bathrooms were all spacious and well-appointed. It was too warm for the spa, but the pool was a nice place to cool off. Two large fridges and the kitchen had most any essentials we needed. Easy walk to two nice beaches and less than a mile to Kahalu'u which has fabulous snorkeling. We enjoyed watching the geckos and nice sunsets and even had a daily visit from a wild turkey. Paul is a great host and he made sure we had plenty of towels and supplies. This place is huge and can handle a large crowd, lots of beach toys for the kids and conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood. Internet connection was fine and there were numerous large TVs. This is a clean and beautifully decorated house with comfortable tropical themed furniture that has a nice, upscale feeling.

Aloha Paul - What a great house for multiple family sharing! Having 4 bathrooms worked out well when we were all trying to get ready for our daughter's wedding. All the rooms were very spacious and airy. The kitchens were well equipped which made for easy food preparation. Having (2) pac n' plays came in real handy with the new baby which allowed us to have one on each level, and we even found you had a baby play mat toy! There were 10 in our party and never felt like we were tripping over each other. The pool the spa and the big screen tv's offered great entertainment value for the kids (and adults). Once again thanks for letting us rent your house - hope to be back on the Big Island again some day! -The Mattthes/Evenson & Jubinville Family's

Aloha, and Mahalo Paul Your home was exactly what we were looking for this trip back to the Big Island. The house was spacious enough for two families (8) with kids. The pool was nice to have because I do not like to swim in the ocean, but the beach was just a stones throw away for the kids. The big screen Tv's were a plus, that are not shown in the online pictures. Your place was close enough to town and activities, but far enough away from the noise at night. As repeat visitors to the big Island this was a plus. The no bug factor was also great, and considering all the tropical trees and landscape you have around the property, we were quite impressed. We would recomend your house to anyone who wants to visit the big Island and feel the Ohana and the Aloha. Mahalo, Bill Terri Joseph Thomas Bruce Lisa James Justin

First time visit to Hawaii July 15 -27 2007 Saw listing on vrbo Parents, children and grandchildren from North Royalton, Great Aunt Ri from Olmsted TWP. Welcomed warmly by Paul upon arrival...fresh flowers made it special too, as was his willingness prior to our arrival to stock a few staples per our request after a long day of travel. The house was well maintained and as told prior to booking A/C was not really necessary..Also true. The house is in a very quiet residential area..very safe. No bugs was also nice...did not mind a few resident geckos. Snorkeling with turtles and colorful tropical fish was amazing here in Kona. Have really had a wonderful time even with a couple days of rain and clouds. The very bestest of the best. We will always remember the warmth and sincerity of Paul, our host...You will see... His desire is to provide you with whatever he can to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as he can. He is a real gem...Thanks Paul for the memories, hope to visit again. The Lugli's

We appreciated the care that you put into making the place so nice. Paul, it was fabulous from start to finish-- the pool, the well appointed kitchen, the spacious floor plan and island themed furnishings. We saw some great scenery, visited a friend here, went to the Parker Ranch, and really relaxed, a big thange from our usual hectic pace. We'll be back. Thank you so very much for everything! Paul, We had a great time here in spite of the one day it rained. Everything you've done here helped make this a great trip. We enjoyed the comforts of the house, certainly enjoyed the pool and the ability to walk to the beaches. The Kona Inn was a great recommendation for dinners- we went there twice; super views and the food was great! We'll recommend your place to friends, as it is close enough to everything yet away from the hustle of Kailua town. Great sunset views upstairs. Take care. P.S. Hot tub and pool were a great hit with the kids. Mike, Gretchen and kids... Sara and Mike and Kids (plus the honeymoon couple) and Patricia and Grandma

What a great vacation we had.. two weeks in paradise! We hate to leave..but we have to..back to reality. Thanks for great accomodations so close to town and the beaches; we enjoyed having the pool and the hot tub to play in, all the great toys for the kids to take to the beach to play with, and the spaciousness of the house. Everything was wonderful, the beds so comfy, and we used the BBQ every night. We did some touristy things- Body Glove snorkel trip to Pawai Bay; we drove to Kealakekua State Park to see the Capt. Cook monument, and played on the black sands beach at the City of Refuge. We shopped till we dropped on Alii Drive, visited the volcano (left the kids with the Grandma's) and got to see some activity....steam billowing from the ocean due to the lava, and then a trip to Kalae (South Point) to see the Green Sands Beach and artifacts.....what a different environment in the middle of all that lava! Could go on and on but don't have time. Great snorkeling, weather, and place to visit--how sad to leave. Thanks Paul for renting us your great home, we truly enjoyed it! Mahalo.

We especially enjoyed the pool, palms geckos & the sounds of all the tropical birds. We all hope to return to the Big Island & "Pauls Almost Perfect" Paradise home. Thanks again! (These guests came from Santa Rosa, San Rafael and Novato in California and one came from North Bend, OR)

The house was great from top to bottom. It gave us plenty of space to spread out. You've done a great job thinking of the needs of guests! The kids had a great time in the pool, and we all had a very relaxing time lounging and eating outside. 5/18-5/23 2005

There aren't enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe our stay over Christimas (2003). Everything about the house is just perfect for group/family vacations -- plenty of space to spread out, great kitchen for making big or small meals, great pool area to relax and "desalinate" at the end of the day and one of the world's best snorkelling beaches in easy walking distance. We want to move in for life! Or at least come back often. Thanks!

The house was perfect for our large group of 9. The pool was great after a long sweaty day on drives or at the beach. We had a GREAT time. Our annual family reunion was a total success. 27 March-03 April 2005 ***********************Dean was kind enough to get the house high speed wireless router up and running, for which I, and all of the subsequent guest, have been very thankful for. THANK YOU DEAN!!!!! (Paul)

We're not going. You can't make us leave. You'll have to drag us out of here kicking and screaming before we'll...But....We have families awaiting our return. So, reluctantly, we are dragging our bags and sorry asses to the airport. It was a wonderful 10 days in paradise. Thanks Paul, for providing us with such an almost perfect place to live out our vacation. The pool is great, and the house very comfortable. We hope to return... Highlights: Beaches at Hapuna and Mauna Kea, snorkeling, the Fairwinds snorkel cruise, the drive to the north shore and volcano, and dinner at The Kona Inn Restaurant... All good, no bad.

This was the PERFECT place for two families to stay. The house was very homey, not kitschy. The pool was ideal as we had kids from age 10 months to 12 years old. The location was key for easy access to snorkeling, shopping, etc. Most of all, Paul made us feel completely welcome by having anything you need to enjoy the island.
