Harbour Island is a charming place and Back Banyans Cottage was perfect for our family. We were able to walk and enjoy the beautiful beach, or walk in the other direction to the little town. Melissa and her husband, took care of any requests we had (more wineglasses, questions about the island, etc) and were very promp and professional.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our party of six adults and two toddlers stayed at Back Banyan over Thanksgiving, and we were delighted with the property. Very reasonably priced, it's only a few minutes walk from a gorgeous pink sand beach that feels private, it is so secluded. The cottage is clean, very well stocked and safe for curious babies. It's an easy walk to groceries and restaurants. The property manager was helpful throughout the process of confirming our reservation. We all had a fantastic time and hope to come back again soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The Harbour Island paradise life is pricey. But Sam and i were saved by Back Banyans. The reasonable rent reflects the simplicity of the owner's northeastern taste. The island life is spent outside of your house! Although we spent 4 weeks during the winter months on the island, I have discovered that even a summer stay is breezy and beautiful. Back Banyans is shady and secluded, and yet just minutes away from the waterfront village, great restaurants, and the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. (you have to love that!) Best of all is the crest of the pink beach dunes just up the road. Half the travel fun is renting your own gulf cart vehicle to explore the island stem to stern. I did that and completed many plein air watercolor paintings. To stop and then take a late afternoon walk on the wide, firm beach gives you a chance to reflect on the day and breathe in the ocean air. We ended up walking miles, more each day! Coming home to this cozy cottage is a good feeling. Meals can be made in a well supplied kitchen that is all part of the main living space, a great spot to congregate and toast everyone's joyful experiences.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My wife and I had a terrific vacation at this comfortable cottage with our two boys. The beach is gorgeous, clean and uncrowded, and very close to the house. The boys quickly found friends nearby and we all enjoyed the family restaurant across the street for good food in a relaxed local setting. It is easy to get around the small island for shopping or water sports and other activities. The house has all the basic comforts of home without the TVs, computers and other electronic distractions that take up so much time back home. This is a great place for a quiet family escape in a beautiful part of the world.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

My husband and I used this property as a get away from big city stress--it is the perfect place to unwind--lots of sun and beach--great for quiet walks at sunset, but also enough "night life" if one wants to go out for a drink at a friendly bar. House is set up for lounging or working--we did both. Plenty of places to shop for food on island to cook in the well stocked kitchen, or go across the street for great local specialities. As shown in the photos included in the listing, the property itself is attractive and well maintained, with attention to details such as jigsaw puzzles and a small library of thrillers. House is centrally located within an easy walk to beach, shops, and restaurants. Owners are helpful and ready to answer questions. We would go back to stay and would certainly recommend the property to friends and family.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

This is a rustic cabin right in the middle of beautiful Harbour Island. It's the best bargain on the island, which can be fairly high-end. A short walk to both town and the beach. Great for little kids who can play in the shady yard of the beach gets too sunny. We took the whole family and had a blast! Going back for spring break in 2012. Highly recommend it for a low-key beach get-away.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We stayed here recently and had an amazing time. The owners are terrific. The home is clean, comfortable and had plenty of space for my extended family. What the owners fail to mention is that this property is right across the street from a place called Ma Ruby's, which is the home of the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" made famous by Jimmy Buffett. What a bonus! Harbor Island is amazing, and this property gave me and my family comfortable and easy access to it all. We highly recommend it.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My husband I will always remember our trip to Harbor Island and the wonderful time we had staying in Back Banyans Cottage. The cottage felt like a home away from home but in a much more beautiful surrounding. We were engage during our trip there and can't wait to return. We will most definitely stay at Back Banyans Cottage again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Every few years, I get burnt out so I escape to this cottage on Harbour Island around Chrismas time. It's a short flight from Miami. Everybody on the island is friendly and the weather is always great. The food is excellent and napping on the pink sands beach is my favorite hobby. Yes, the sand actually looks pink and the water is perfectly clear. Occasionally, you will see people riding horses bare back on the beach. The cottage is quiet, clean, and it has a tropical feel with the wooden cedar floors and furniture. It has a yard and across the street is Ma Ruby's restaurant. The living room, full kitchen, and a bath are in the front of the cottage and the bedrooms and second bath are in the rear. The traveler's log book at the cottage has many stories from previous guests. Everybody who knows me has heard about my stays at this cottage on Harbour Island. Enjoy...Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Harbour Island is a unique and gorgeous vacation spot with some of the most quiet and beautiful beaches on the planet. There are days when you or your family see no one else on the soft pink sand or in the clear blue waters of the sea here. And this small island has been saved from the flashy tourism of most of the Bahamas, maintaining an old world feel that you will never forget. Known as the wood house across from Ma Rubies, this cottage is in the center of the island, only a brief walk from everything. Though rustic, compared to some of the mansions on the island, it is perfect. We went with friends in our twenties, then on our honeymoon, and then with our young children -- and it was ideal for all three. Playing in the sun, drinking fruity rum drinks, scuba diving, fishing, snorkeling, puzzles, amazing sunsets, long walks, peace beneath the Banyon trees -- We just can't get enough!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We've had 3 family trips to Back Banyans Cottage and are eager to return. Harbour Island combines a picturesque small town with the most beautiful beach in the world. The whole island is incredibly mellow and relaxing due to the ban on cars except taxis. The cottage is in a quiet spot located in the middle of the narrow island, which means a short taxi ride or 10-min walk from the dock/town and a 5-min walk to the beach on the other side. Our children loved the freedom of being able to wander into town by themselves and playing with the local kids. The house is very clean, comfortable and well-equipped by the owners who use it primarily for themselves and friends, so it doesn't feel worn like some rentals. The master bedroom is huge and the two other bedrooms are plenty big enough for two adults or two kids in each. The kitchen/dining/living room is spacious enough for six people. It is a cottage, not super-luxury, and lacks the views of the prime property right on the beach, but that's pretty much the only things you're giving up for a much more reasonable price. Ma Ruby's restaurant across the street is a friendly neighborhood place, which is perfect when you don't feel like cooking. When we had extra people one year, they stayed at Ma Ruby's as well. There are several other nice restaurants in town for special occasion meals.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
