Charming Studio for the Perfect Weekend or Holiday Get-away
Live like a true New Yorker in the historic Lower East Side district where many of our ancestors settled after arriving from Europe. Located east of First Avenue, just below Houston, the Lower East Side breaks from the uptown grid structure with smaller streets that run at a variety of angles. It is here that many of the remaining 19th century tenement buildings have been converted to modern, contemporary apartments, and mine is one of them.
The Lower East Side is both residential and commercial. Stroll around during the day and the scene will assault your senses. The neighborhood has a creative brashness you won’t find anywhere in Manhattan. Absorb the provocative edge of the many graffiti-covered walls, feast your eyes on the plump fruit sold by street vendors bursting with flavor, soak up the vibrant color of fresh cut flowers gracing the doorways of corner delis, try on a one-of-a-kind, un-department-store-like outfit from one of the fashion boutiques run by young avant-garde designers flaunting their fearless artistic passion.
In the early evening, the atmosphere lends a relaxed atmosphere that calms the City’s bustle. Discover the myriad of small cozy sidewalk bistros and allow the diversity of aromas titillate your appetite as you grapple with what to have for dinner. And as the late hour encroaches, feel the streets come alive from the little-known, unless-you-are-“in” chic night clubs that dot the narrow streets below East Houston, all within walking distance of the apartment – right on Allen Street.
Little known museums nearby such as the Tenement Museum and the New Museum for Contemporary Art are a treasure trove of knowledge, culture and education.
Soho, Little Italy, is just three blocks west, while Chinatown is two blocks south. North of Soho is Greenwich Village, home of New York University, where I work, a short 20-minute walk away. You can see the Williamsburg Bridge crossing to Brooklyn from my neighborhood and if you’re adventurous, you can walk over to this up-and-coming community where many of the art galleries displaced from Soho and the Lower East Side have been setting up shop.
Little more than a block away you can experience a short subway ride to the usual sights – Central Park, Times Square, Wall Street and Ground Zero, Tribeca, Chelsea and the Upper East and West Sides. And if you’d rather cab it, you will never run out of taxis on Allen Street, even on a rainy day, because this is where most of the drivers change shifts.
I am not a property manager nor is this a money-making business for me. I live here 1-2 days a week, so I rent out long weekends (Thurs-Tues). Occassionally, full weeks are available. Email me for availability.
Because the apartment is mine and I take pride and joy caring for it, I can accord you the warmth as only a resident hostess can. So come on in, and make yourself at home. |
